You never do get the newspaper.  At all.  It's a red herring.  (You do need to do something with Javi, but not till practically the very end of the game.)

Try doing other things.  If you need some hints, here are some nudges toward things you can do right at the start (hidden to give you a chance to explore more on your own first if you don't want any more guidance):

Play around with the coffee machine.  (Warning: the coffee machine puzzle is by far the hardest puzzle in the game!  But it's not one you have to complete right away; you can save it till you've finished almost everything else.)

You can take one of the posters in the first room.  Where else could you put that poster where it might do some good?...

In general, though, it's a good tip for any adventure game, if you've just started, and you can't figure out how to do something...to try doing other things instead.  It could be that you'll figure out how to do that one thing later.  It could be you can't do it now, because there are other things you need to do or items you need to pick up first.  And it could be that you never end up having to do that thing at all...
