Title: king of rock II- looking for musician
Post by: viktor on Thu 17/06/2004 17:04:33
Ok. I know the first game was crapy becouse the anoying bugs, but I'm making a sequel anyway. The sequel will  not be called MODERN TIMES ROCK 'N' ROLL like it was stated in the first game.  That's becouse I want the title to blend in with the game. So the game is going to be called LEAVING HOME AIN'T EASY.
----------------
The story:
---------------
You finaly got the band members together. Joey has his new apartment, Mark has a new co- worker and Steve got over his stage fright.  But now that you got the band together you have to get to the battle of the bands.  You find out that the begars buddy flimflamed you. He sened a crapy bus to pick you up.  The bus has some problems as well. You have to fix these problems and get going.  The game is no near completion and I'm going to take my time with makin it ( for the sake of all of you).

THE DEMO IS NOW AWAILABLE HERE:
http://www.slomskov-zavod.si/~kingofrock/kingofrock2.zip

here are some characters (the midle one is the player character)
(http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/steve_1.PNG) (http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/charselect1.PNG) (http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/mark_1.PNG)

--------------------------------
I'm looking for a musician
--------------------------------
I'm looking for a musician that could remake a QUEEN song. But not just anyold queen song. I was thinking in the lines of bohemian rhapsody or a song of there first 3 albums ( and I know that bohemian rhapsody is from one of the first 3 albums. To be acsact it's from the QUEEN 2 album. But that's not what maters).
If you can't make any of these we can make an agrement for any other QUEEN song. Just send me a personal mesage BEFORE you start to compose becouse I already have some music and don't want to waste your time with something I already have!
-----------
Update:
-----------

I just bumped this up so you would know that I am still working on this project. I have a new character to introduce.

ok I fixed some bugs in the demo and added a new room.  I don't think I need betta testers for this. After all this is only for you to see how the game will look in general.
If you have any sugestion me and PRIMUS are all ears...

The demo looks cool.

The only thing that bugs me is the VerbCoin(?).
When you select action ('use', 'look at') you have to click the up left part of the screen to exit.
My suggestion is: when you click 'use' or 'look at', the VerbCoin automaticaly closes. Also, you might want to add 'talk to' function.

Can't wait for the full game.

I enjoyed the demo, the graphics and character were great.  I agree with Damien about the menu not closing... there were times when I couldn't get it closed at all.  Otherwise, i'm looking forward to seeing the full game.  Good luck finishing it.

I almoast forgot to tell you: I added a corny joke for the talk funcion in the game. Try talking to the skull and poster.

Actually, I've checked it out and still can't see the 'talk to' function, are you sure it's available in the demo?

What I tried to explain before is that when the player clicks on the 'use' icon on the verb coin, the verb coin should automatically exit itself.

Post by: viktor on Sat 26/06/2004 14:38:28
I still don't get what your trying to tell me. When I run the demo on my compurter everithing runs perfectly. The verbcoin exits by itself. And there IS a talk option. Look closely. There's got to be a microphone(an old microphone).  And by the way are you shure you downloaded the latest wersion. I updated it a few days back (you can go in to the room with the roger taylor poster now) in the prewious wersion you couldn't. And please send me a PM with a screenshot of the verbcoin so that I can see the problem...

Oh you ment the inventory. I thought you ment this
(http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/guitest.png)

Nah I don't think I'm going to add a talk function. I made those two items only for the use in the inventory. I couldn't make th verbcoin to work in the inwentory. So I thought what if I used the sam 'n' max stile but only for inventory use. So the talk function isn't realy needed. But if you still insisit I can make the talk item.
Oh and by the way. I hope you noticed the the game has the same sistem as monkey island 4.

Oh, I get it, when i first pressed the right button i saw an hand and eye icon, so i asumed that opened the verb coin, but that was inventory.
The (real) verb coin is way cool.

I modified the first post a bit.  Now it is still posible for you to choose wich character you like best and want him to be the main character of the game. The reason I did this is that there are four characters and I would like that eweryone would star in one of my games. Not only Brian.

sorry victor! I did play MI3 but it was like 5 yrs ago so my memory of it isn't that good. great use of the GUI though. ALl I would say is have a little bit of a play around with the inventry because it seems very akward. Also the picture seems to be very lo-res of the back pack.
other thna that, a great demo. keep up the good work.

Cool game, the MI3 interface was definitely my fave, the graphics in the game are brill.  :o

One slight problem, I think you have done something to thedialog or the Script, when i talk to the poster i get:

An error has occured etc, etc

(Global script line 53)

Error: Display message: Invalid message number to display

Or was that the joke?

did you actualy read the first post. I need a "QUEEN" song. You know the guys who wrote we will rock you, we are the champions, bohemian rhapsody and another one bites the dust....

Post by: Stee on Thu 01/07/2004 21:28:23
Ok, calm down, I was just saying that i could do that song for you if needs be.

Whats the obsession with Queen anyway, the only person i liked was Brian May. What about the Red Hot Chili Peppers?
Title: Re: king of rock II- looking for musician
Post by: viktor on Fri 02/07/2004 09:00:42
Sorry for the reaction. I had a bad day. So sorry once again. And yes I am obsesed with queen. This game is sorta a tribute to them. That's why I need theyr music. So any other band won't do. But I could change everithing a do a mix of oldie songs. Like Status Quo, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, etc. But no modern music. I still insist that I stick to the music of the good old days.

This is a snotty thing to post, but Bohemian Rhapsody is actually from Queen's fourth album A Night At The Opera, not Queen 2.

I actually probably would've been able to help you with this but unfortunately my PC's microphone port broke recently, and that put a stop to my music recording activities.

So basically I can't help in any way shape or form, aside from pointing out a small factual error like the bratty jerk I am.

Well a remake. A remix sortof. What don't you understand about that? I can't use the original MP3 for the game since it is to big. I need someone that would remake a song from queen (not neciserily Bohemian Rhapsody) or remix it in to a midi or something like that.

That would be intelligent turning away people who are willing to play your game.

BTW This game better be a better testament to Queen than the first one there was so much incorrect information In the game and in your posts I was ready to pull my hair out.

For Queen Music there are plenty of Midi's out there..

Post by: on Tue 03/08/2004 12:51:12
hi, i'm new to AGS, and not a music genius, but maybe I can make a BR remake for you. However, I wouldn't like to work in vain, so please, can you explain in what form would you like to use this song?

You know, you can have it in mp3, but you've written it's too big in terms of filesize... so you can have it in mid too, it is obviously a good choice, but consider the sound which is waay too bad on the soundblaster cards most people have.

Maybe xm would be the best choice, though they can be pretty large too. (over 1 mbytes, but ). But if the rest of the music is in mid, the sound would differ too much. So all in all there a bunch of questions you must answer for yourself then clearly write your exact need in a post.
(Ah, and the parts where only the singer is audible would be a laugh in mid (and in xm too).)
Maybe (no.2 :) ) a recreated track (with different musical instruments, tempo, etc.) would be the best.

(btw. today music has its own values, just listen to underground metal bands :)  check out Nightwish, Blind Guardian or Anathema, if you're into PFloyd.)

Post by: viktor on Tue 03/08/2004 19:30:50
Look it's like this. You may do it in any format you would like. Just go with the one that you think is best. Some people already sain that they would do it but then i didn't hear from thema gain. Si I realy hope that you would finish this project.
And no midi is realy not what I want. Xm is good but I don't hawe any problems with MP3s either. Maybee if I put one MP3 in the game the file size won't difer to much. The game is going to be long so an extra mega byte or two won't show  to much...

What do you mean in the game? Ok I admit that I made a lot of mistakes in the posts (maybee thats becouse I'm not actualy the queen generation. I mean I was born in year 1988 so I clearly don't belong in the queen generation). Doess it realy matter?

ok, i will do it, but please expect nothing and so when you get it, it will be surely joyful :)

ah, here's a sample of my previous effort, it's been done for a few years, this is the theme music of the Hungarian series "Baratok Kozt" (Among Friends, not equal to the US series Friends), I tracked it in ft2, added new melodies and of course, i had no singer, so a trumpet or what replaces her. (We wanted to make a "barbarian" parody 'cause in Hungarian, Baratok and Barbarok (Barbarians) sounds similar.)

Note that it is intentionally sounds a lot more fantasy than the original.
The original: http://www.extra.hu/baratok-kozt/baratok1.mp3

and mine:
http://canucks.atw.hu/ags/JOBARBAR.MP3

(case sensitive, so jobarbar.mp3 is not working!)
