Title: Quest For Cinema! Ready
Post by: Estaog on Thu 17/06/2004 19:36:02
This will be my first game in ags, it is about a man in a cow siute (what?) that wants to go the cinema but gets fired from work (what great plot huh?) and you need to find a way for him to find some money!

Here are some screenshots from the game:

The selection screen (Before and after the intro):

What's with the Cow Suit?  Too lazy to draw Realistic sprites? (same here)
Looks alright.... Do hope it explains why he wears a Cow suit...

- Cow with blue arrow is to show proportion -

Is he meant to be "vertically challenged" cause he looks it in this pic  ;D

Since you're using RON characters in this game, is it considered to be a RON game, or just unrelated stuff?
Title: Re: Quest For Cinema!
Post by: Estaog on Fri 18/06/2004 12:13:11
Actually it is not a ron character, it was used in a game (ron game) as a background guy, i animated him and making a game, and yes he is soppose to look like that ( :-\). So anyone would play it when it comes out?

And dg how did you make that picure?

Yep, I'd give it a go...

I just copied your 3rd screenshot and the sprite (from your CL thread) into photoshop and viola!

The only reason I asked if he's meant to be that short is because he looks about 4 feet tall in the 3rd and 4th screenshots, but a fair bit taller in the 5th and 6th. I didn't mean to be derogatory.

This may shock and horrify some of you, but... have you tried scalling with anti-alias on?

No matter what you do to it, it is still someone else character that YOU have just taken and used. And yes, it is a RON character... because he appears in a RON game. At least give credit to the RON creator who made the original characters, otherwise you're gonna get into shit. >:(

I also suggest putting a disclaimer at the beginning of the game, that it isn't a RON game and is no way related other than the characters art that you took. Otherwise, having the characters swear (as in one screenshot, the cow says Fuck Off) would do nothing but taint the characters that others have tried hard establishing and others love. >:(

Considering the cow suit character sodomizes Davy Jones to death in 'Davy Jones c'est Mort'Ã,  the swearing shouldn't be too much of a problem.Ã,  ;)
But yeah, you should definitely give credit to the authors if it's not a RON game.

tanker, you need to get permission from the proginal artists if you want to use these for anything else apart from ron.

Im not guarentee'ing that they'll say yes either.
Title: Re: Quest For Cinema!
Post by: Estaog on Mon 21/06/2004 13:39:12
I was planning on giving them credit, but when you download them it dosent say anything about only using them for a ron game, but if you say so il ask him. How do i contact this guy?
Title: Re: Quest For Cinema!
Post by: AGA on Mon 21/06/2004 13:56:54
The cow guy was drawn by Esseb, and he was gonna be a character in a RoN game. Max Griff was drawn by DaveGilbert. The least you could do is ask these guys if they mind you using their characters... You can contact them both by using these forums' instant messaging facility.

Good news, the creator of max giffs just game me permission to use his character, as for Esseb he didnt send back yet. The game has beed about 40% completed. A bit more than half of the art is sompleted, will have about 15 areams. 10 completed. You will get to go through dangerous forests, and there is a surprise! But i wont spoil it.The movie will alse be quite funny.

Question:
Should i make the movie a playable, or just a long cutscene?
Title: Re: Quest For Cinema!
Post by: switcharoo on Tue 22/06/2004 19:39:30
Well that really depends on how long the movie is, and how interesting it is to watch.

The cinema clerk (is the name correct?):

And the guy you meet in the forest, appendige bob (correct?):

What do you think are they ok?

Post by: Tiki on Tue 22/06/2004 23:26:27
Hey, bud.  This isn't the critics lounge.   ;)

As for the 'movie,' well, It wouldn't be a movie if you played it.   Since you say that you are so far into it the full game, is anything but the actual game needed?  Don't work on a demo or 'movie.'
Rather, you should just finish that game!

- Rivers

PS.  Work on your spelling and grammar!!  Geez...its like you're in Kindergarten.

PSS.  You can edit your older posts, you know

Tanker,

Aside from your spelling errors, sprite usage permissions and other controversies, this doens't sound like a  bad first game from a young author.  Just remember, KISS.  Keep It Simple, Stupid.  It's good advice.  Don't make the game too big or too long.

Good luck with this, and keep practicing.  The old adage, practice makes perfect, is a damn fine saying.

Cheers,

Bt

Thanks for all the encouragement guys.Sorry for my spelling but I'm not english. As for the movie i didnt mean it as a trailer, its the movie you see in the end of the game!Sort of a curscene.I was thinking of making it a small joke, or a cutscene.Still not sure....

looks good! i would play it. although i owould get rid of the swearing becuas it could offend some people and then they wouldn't play your game! ;D

I think all the children in the world have already heard fu*k you so i think il just leave that one there. Dont worry thats the only swearword in the game.
Title: Re: Quest For Cinema!
Post by: Sam. on Wed 23/06/2004 13:04:27
is it really necessary though. i mean when did you hear "f*ck" in any of the major commercial games? GO for it if you ant but to me it is a sign of immaturity having to swear to prove a fucking point.

Isn't that usually the first thing you do? How can you draw locations without a plot in mind, or without any puzzles in mind?

I can understand Tanker. Many of my ideas crystalise during making of the game itself, though I usually have outline of a plot and I'm following it.

I usually make the puzzles last also, I create the world for the events to occur, I pick a storyline, create characters and setting, then make the puzzles
