cool. A flash gordon game. You simply have to use the queen Flash Gordon theme, since they made it for the movie too.

P.S:
I tried downloading the file on your website. How big is that file anyway, becouse it will take a long time for it to download?

What's the plot about?

Who're some of the characters?

How many rooms so far?

How about a screenshot?

How about some character art?

Is it more movie based, or more from the comic?

Is it a remake?

Will Flash Gordon be made into a black man just to 'add some color to the role'?

Here's an interesting read ... FORUM RULES - READ BEFORE POSTING! (http://www.agsforums.com/yabb/index.php?topic=1987.0)

The game is going to be loosly based on the 1980 film, the plot is:

Zarjovs rocket has crashed on mongo, mings guards have captured zarkov and dale, but you flash has managed to evade capture. The game starts with you stood by the crashed ship, your objective is to rescue dale and zarkov and save the earth. I will be useing some of the queen music and some cutscenes from the film (copyright depending).

at the moment i am in very early stages of development, (pen and paper stage) so i have no art work to post as yet, however the intro file is done and is on my website (see above). the file is large so be patient (16mb). the final game will also be large, but i am looking for an install system to cut down the file sizes and pack them for distribution.

I didn't really think I was acting like a moderator.

In my opinion, what you said to me is more acting like a moderator than what I did ;D

I was posing some questions I had about the 'game in production'.

And I did cut him a little slack ... a lot of slack actually.

I mean, I could have said:
"So ... this isn't really in production.Ã,  Since all you have is a way oversized animation which probably won't even appear in the game?Ã,  Why don't you follow forum rules n00b?!?"

But he's new ... so I cut him some slack :)

Zordork, if my questions offended you, let me extend my hand in apology.Ã,  It wasn't my intention.

Welcome to the forums and best of luck on your first game.

Also aren't you supposed to supply plot details, 2 Backgrounds and a character?

I think Darth was well within his... shall we call them 'rights'

Actually no ... I started the download and it was taking too long.Ã,  I made my comment in my second post based off of stuff I had read since posting my first.

What format is it in?Ã,  Is it a .avi or .mpeg or something?Ã,  Do you have lots of high quality sound?Ã,  You might want to consider (if it's possible) putting together something in Flash ... it'd probably be 1/5 the size.

145!!Ã,  Good lord!Ã,  That's awfully ambitious.Ã,  Best of luck.

the intro is mpg, i dont think flash would work for what i want

145 rooms is the goal, i hope that the whole story fits into them, if not i will have to create some more!

coz of the hugh size of the game i will be offering a distrid by cd offer as well as a download option

Have you made any previous games? It's best to start with a small game before trying something really big, as you may get lose interest whie making a large game if you've never made one before. Trust me.

due to the size of this project i have decided to release the game in module format. when you complete a module you will get a release code for the next module. All modules must be completed in sequence. The first module `The Great Mongo Desert` is well underway and should be ready for release within the next month.

The "r6.pcx" one did work. It's a fairly large file for a background (250 kbs+).

Look here, featuring 140 rooms in your first project is just not gonna happen, so I suggest you follow people's advice here and make a neat little test-project first.

That would also give you the opportunity to improve your backgound making skills. Frankly speaking, the backgrounds you have made seem pretty hastily concieved at the moment.

I don't want to be discouraging, but you need to be realistic on this one.

PS:
For the ones who can't download the intro movie, it's a series of photographs with bits of text moving over in different manners.
I would recommend having these photographs (granted that you give proper credits) on a web-page, with text captions under or beside. That way, people can take part of it much easier.

Well considering the amount of work put into these backgrounds I don't think 140 rooms sounds that impossible. I mean look at http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/r6.pcx. It was probably done in about 3 minutes. 140*3=420 minutes = 7 hours.

Post by: zordork on Wed 21/07/2004 23:47:31
i would like to point out to Andail that if you had read my previous posts, you would of noticed that the number of rooms is the complete game, which is going to be in chapters, not as one entire adventure, the first chapter is nearing completion and contains 14  rooms. you need to complete eache chapter (or mini game) to complete the entire game.

i liked the idea about puting screenshoots of the intro on my website, i will do this as soon as my new isp is up and running (friday 30th june)

other coments i have had about the quility of graphics.... i would like to point out that in my veiw and many other peoples..... game play and story is far more important, than the graphics, some of the best ever adventure games ever written contained no graphics what so ever.

Andail and others... You are all very respected members of this community. But please lets not discourage anyone here. If someone wants to attempt to make a project that is this big, let them. There have been lots of AGSers who as their first project had created a big game for the public. So this might come through as well.

Lets have faith and offer an encouraging point of view. Possibly even offer help if possible.

Keep it up Zordok! I always like flash Gordon!

I like the style, but you could at least anti-alias the edges of the drawn part in with the sky. ;)

Anyways, when you finish the whole project, you can always go back and 'remake' the first ones.  I can see your BGs have the potential to be as high quality as some others, but perhaps it would be best to focus on your story-telling for the time being.  In time the art will come.  I have seen my art improve as my confidence has grown, and my eagerness to produce good art.  Its like the piano, everyone can learn to play.  Some will always be better than others, but everyone can get better.
