Title: Sketchbook Boy and... (new screenshots) [ENG/ITA]
Post by: Vaz on Fri 10/09/2004 16:58:39
EDIT (Sept. 15th, 2004): version 0.4 alpha 1 is out!

Grab it here (http://www.vaz.altervista.org/boy.htm).

I have added two songs (for now in mp3, but I'll see how they sound converted in MIDI), some credits and, most important thing for you, an English translation! I worked like hell to do it as fast as possible, so please report any typos or sentences left in Italian, if any.

Anyway, here we go. Sketchbook Boy e la casa sull'orlo del Nulla (http://www.vaz.altervista.org/boy.htm) (tr. Sketchbook Boy and the house on the edge of Nowhere) is the first chapter (I cut the main storyline in episode for personal reasons I won't bother you to explain) of the adventure of a boy - whose first look I've drawn on my sketchbook, hence his name - who must fecth a book about armadillos to a friend of his, but as soon as he opens the door of his house he finds out he's floating in space... what did happen? Does the book have something to do with it? Is his friend's fault? And what's got to do Sketchbook Boy's umbrella with the matter? You'll find out soon, hopefully around this fall/winter (sounds like a stupid storyline, but have patience, it could turn out even dumber than this).

Here is a screenshot of the first room. As you can see the look of Sketchbook Boy is weird, but as I usually draw characters in my comics like that, I decided to keep this style for this game too. You can grab the "interactive teaser" from the link above, which leads to the WiP diary. I know the teaser has some bugs in it, which were already solved, sorry it's in italian only but an english translation will be available for sure with the final version. I don't know how many rooms, NPC and similar stuff will be thrown into the final version, all I can tell you for now is that cutscenes will feature close-ups I've drawn and inserted to make them more interesting.

Sept. 22:

A new member joined the party! -=BrAvO=- (http://digilander.libero.it/bravobrv/) is working on the new backgrounds, here are 2 new screenshots:

Here is Sketchbook Boy in a cave. I think Bravo did a very good work (all in all, better than mine :D). And here's another one:

Still in the same cave, further into its dephts. I've also written new songs for the soundtrack, they're all mp3s causing the whole game to be rather "heavy" (approx 8.50 megs so far). I've tried converting them in .mid files but the results were awful...

Not surprisingly I'm working on my own for this game, anyway a musician would be highly appreciated, since I've taken a look at FruityLoops and SoundClub and ended up with the conclusion that I'll never be able to deal with that infernal stuff.

I'd be glad to have feedback, but the language barrier is high enough to assure me I won't get any unless I put together a traslation. Oh well, at least you another AGS game is going on :)

Thanks to all for you attention!

Seen... nice :)
You'll probably find someone to help translating when the game will be complete, no fear : )

And remember you're not the one...
...greetings from Salerno

I like that comics style of your graphics. I am looking forward to this game and hope you will translate it in English.

Here are 2 new screenshots showing the progress of the works and, above all, the new backgrounds drawn by the new member of the Sketchbook Boy project, Bravo (http://digilander.libero.it/bravobrv/).

FEEDBACK NEEDED!  ;)
