Post by: Klytos on 31 Mar 2005, 11:01
We are VERY pleased to announce that Codename Entertainment, Hero6, Infamous Adventures, Project Katrina, and Solar Crescent Studios have merged to form Silver Sphinx Studios, a team that is dedicated to create the next generation of oldskool adventures. We've had to keep this in the utmost secrecy over the last few months and are very happy to be able to at last share this exciting news with you, the fans of adventure gaming!

Not only have we merged our project teams, we have also merged our projects and have created a game for you to enjoy! YES, we've already created an entire game, ready for download!

Presenting,

Hmmm, can't get to the site, was the address spelt correctly? (Well I see that at least a 'l' is missed from silver, but still no dice)

Was the game made with AGS?

Yep, it's AGS. It's not entirely accessible because of the slashdot effect.
It combines the effort, art and music from a number of highly expected indie games, that have decided to team up to stand a better chance.

Sorry, my datacenter seems to be experiencing difficulties (yes, datacenter, not server) so the main site is down.

The techs are working on the issue and the site should be up anytime now. I haven't slept and it's dawn so I'm sleeping now that I know the techs are working on it.

Keep checking the url above too because the site is really pretty!

Hmmm...

Sorry to sound picky here, but I have a couple of questions.

1) What exactly IS this game?

2) Why can't you compress it? (Not WinZip, WinRar. Seriously, it get's files twice as small as .zip :) )

1) What exactly IS this game?

Check the website. A number of indie games were struggling to get enough art/music/coding done so decided to team up.

Nah, ARJ rul3s! Seriously though, MP3s don't compress well in any algorithm, and many AGS internal things are already compressed.

There's a useful object somewhere in the game that might be able to give you hints if you talk to it.

The link left out the "L" in "silversphinxstudios". :)  Insert the "L" in "Silver" and you'll get to the site just fine.

I got to the website & it looked fine.  Some things confuse me, though.  This Heroes game seems to be the only project in the can.  Did you just abandon King's Quest 3?  Was it a smokescreen until you "ironed-out" the merger?

What's the story?

Quest For Infamy has been merged with Hero of Infamous Kingdoms - We did use one screen BASED On a KQ3 screen - but we hopefully plan to finish KQ3VGA sometime in the future - though it may be released as a SSS game, not an IA game.

This is a really interesting venture. I'm guessing when the name changes at the top bar it means that that was the project it was meant to be for, right?

The game is kinda funny.
I like the voice of the old man, oh and just the simplicity and pure sillyness, still, I don't know exactly what to think of it. I expected more seeing that you put all the projects together, doesn't look like you did much in that time before, it's a bit disappointing, I mean, how eager were we for the release of that games, looked at this pretty screenshots, thought of the times back than when the real Sierra, before Chainsaw Whateverday, was still alive and hoped for some pretty good adventures.
So it's kind of a letdown, you have to understand, it's not that what we expected, and I think it was a terrible mistake to stop the projects! I mean, all give up just to put it together to an above-average game? Is this really how it was meant to be? Is this really all?
Was really everyone for this idea? I can't imagine that all members of the teams liked that plan? Did just the project leaders voices count or what? It's a bit unfair when you think of it that the work you spended your many countless hours on in your spare time after work is wasted on something different you wanted it for....
It's hard to understand what you did all the time when I see this...
Especially the Hero6 project, I mean, all the years?  :P   ::)
I think you will get many whining mails because of this decision from disappointed adventure fans...  ;)

Oh, by the way, I found a bug! Would you fix it?  ;)

Well, Ozzie, now that we've proven that we can work together like this, you can certainly expect more games from triple-S. In fact, a sequel is already in the works.

I contributed a sprite or two to this game, but wasn't really involved.  But I finally got a chance to play it and it was awesome.  I went from start to finish without a single crash.  I'm not just saying this game is awesome because I was part of it (I really wasn't involved).

Very cool art (of course mine was the coolest, look at the king sprite,).  Funny, interesting story line.

My favourite though was the voice acting.  I played a star control II remake that had voice acting and I found myself just reading the text and clicking through because the voice acting wasn't captivating.   This one wasn't like that at all, it was so good.
The old man was so funny with the accent, the ogress also cracked me up. The female voices were very cute and well done.  I found myself listening to all the vocals rather than just clicking the mouse to skip through.

To all those who want to try a fun lil game.  Download this one.

I am very excited about the merge.
Bravo!

I'm playing it now! Very nice atmosphere in the game. The Indian old man with turban was hillarious, (to me especially since I'm indian) where did u get the idea & the voice/accent ? ;D

2 things:

When the hero walks around the gate after the knight has come, the game crashes with msg "plz say what u were doing & report to chris"

The debug mode is still on, so u can get all inventory items when u press ctrl+s  and see the walkable areas when u press ctrl+A

anyway, I'm loving it! I loove fantasy adventures like these! Make more! :-* :-*

Regardless of that, the game is still the game with the most votes for GOTW over at www.create-games.com ...How odd that a game made in AGS would be able to enter in that competition.

IMO, Silver Sphinx Studios is a stupid name.
About the game: I don't understand why there isn't a volume control? I have some problems with the midi music. Some of the speech sometime isn't at it's best quality.
The interface isn't bright too.

Maybe you should change your speaker settings, and adjust your monitor's brightness?

I think we should dub them e-chavs  :)

Chavs are dumb, L33Ts are hackers. Chavs wear burberry, L33Ts wear nothing.

I fail to see the resemblance. Also, i shall download the game tomorrow.

Heh. Now THIS is truly a "Joke game", a category which has lately come to mean, quite unfairly, "Joke of a game". Might I suggest you move this to the "joke game" category, so as to show what a joke game really is? Just like Snail Quest and Ben Jordan - Paranormal Warrior Within.

Or don't.

Glad you liked the game, Zoomer. Blackthorne came up with the idea of having the old man read the introduction and provided the art for it. Striker voiced that character. He's not Indian, by the way, and is flattered that you like his character.

Anyway, this is my version of how Hero of Infamous Kingdoms was born (http://www.hero6.net/visitors/forums/index.php?showtopic=458&view=findpost&p=8676).

Thanks for the compliment, Pene. If I'm not mistaken, music was contributed by Hero6, Code Name Entertainment and Project Katrina, and they will be in the original projects. Not all the projects could contribute music as we needed midi rather than mp3 for HoIK, and those other projects only had mp3.

All of King's Quest III VGA's music is digitally composed in .ogg format by SoupAngel.  We'll have a preview of some of his amazing compositions and adaptations over at www.infamous-adventures.com .  Keep checking there.
