This is really great and especially very funny! The dialogues are so hilarious :D

Mordy's sideview walkcycle totally reminds me of another game using a very similar one but I can't remember its name for the sake of my own life!! Tell me which one, please, somebody :P

Don't wanna get too OT here, but this starts driving me mad ;D The walkcycle isn't just similar but exactly the same (smooth animation, head tilted back slightly). The resemblance is so high that I suspect Mordalles has done the other walkcycle, too.

It won,t open, just crash the pc.
The game .exe does work but takes a very long time to open.
What could be wrong??

Okay game. Good renderings, but a bit lacking on the dialogues and story, and the "wooden" GUI is, IMO, just tacky, and annoying. Personally, i dont see what all the fuzz is about, but i'll let you have your opinions. Before you all attack me, i would like to say that i dont mean to insult anyone, just saying what i mean. :)
And good to see that at least someone is finishing their game :)

The winsetup exe and the game exe are very slow for me as well. Also, on the first try I didn't get any sounds. And it's not my comp's fault, at least not of power (Athlon XP 3000+, Radeon 9800 Pro, 1gig dual ddr, Win XP). I'm guessing it's got some memory problems that the engine finds difficult to handle.

Also, what in the game is taking up so much space? It's 500megs for God's sake. At first I thought it must've been the music, probably being compressed incorrectly, but the music package doesn't take that much space. So what the hell is eating up the HD?

yeah, ags got tested on this game. haha, in the last month of working on this game, the game took about 10 minutes just to load into ags, and about 15 minutes to compile! just imagine me sitting there, clicking "test game" and then remembering i wanted to fix something, so i have to wait 15 minutes for the game to finish compiling and then fix the little thing, and then recompile again for 15 miuntes. haha. it was agonising!

the size, i think is due to the sprites, which was over 1500 i think, and a lot of the backgrounds are animated, like the water in the screenshot, which meant 5 backgrounds for one room. and there are 72 rooms in the game. and then, each background had a lot of colours. colours make a lot of difference.

im sorry about the download size, but i didnt want to compromise.  :P

oh, victor, there are shortcuts if u find the gui annoying (which btw is exactly the same most other ags game.)

Hey Mordy, I just d-loaded your game (the download took less than 4 minutes for me using broadband speed and a download accellerator / manager - Just in case anyone was interested in what I used for this, it's a free utility called StarDownloader (http://www.stardownloader.com/) , on the Download page there look for the Free version. Works great, and no spyware / adware or virus junk in it either).

Ummm, oh yeah, sorry, got off track there.
Ã,  Ã, Played the game for a little bit.. So far it looks great!Ã,  My compliments to you on such a good job.

Ã,  Ã, I have a fairly fast computer and running XP, and I found the game starting up time to be okay (a little delay, but not too long - less than 10 seconds).

Ã,  Ã, Though because each persons computer will have some slightly different configurations, hardware, programs / apps running in the background, drivers, etc.. the game's loadability and playing speed can vary from computer to computer.Ã,  For people playing the current game as it is, it's possible you might get improved performance by disabling or exiting any programs or applications that may be running in the background, perhaps adjust some of the game's setting via the Winsetup options, and having a recent version of DirectX and drivers for your graphics card.

Ã,  Ã, Mordalles: I found as a project gets larger and larger, yes, there will be some slowdowns in the loading times and/or performance of the game. However, I also found that using the "Resources split..." option from the AGS editor before compiling th game can help greatly with this.Ã,  I'm working on a fairly large-size project myself at the moment, and instead of compiling my game into just one very-large .exe file, I use the "Resources split..." option, setting the number for "2" Mb, and I find the game's performance greatly improved.Ã,  So, that's something you might consider doing with your game as well.

The following is a copy & paste about it from the AGS manual:

"Splitting resource files

Some people found that once their game became large, the single EXE file was slow at changing rooms. AGS now includes an option to split up the resource files into smaller chunks to avoid this happening. On the General Settings pane you'll notice a checkbox "Split resource files up into X Mb". If you tick this, then type in a number such as 1 or 2, then save the game, the game data will be split up into chunks that size, named GAME.001, GAME.002 and so on.
Some resources are still combined into the EXE file but all the rooms will be placed into the other files. If you use this option, you need to distribute your game's EXE file plus all the GAME.00? files."
---------------------------------------------
Ã,  Ã,  Anyways, it might be worth a try.

Okay, time to get back to playing your game for a bit.Ã,  ;)

I really am enjoying this romp of a game. The 30ish hour download using getright on 2.8k per second was a bit of a bind. Anyway DO IT!

Don't use Test Game. There is a instant way of testing stuff. Copy acwin.exe into the game directory, setup a shortcut in the quicklaunch area of windows then just save your room, script, what ever then click the shortcut and the game plays without the friggin exe building.

A few bugs, if you use any inventory item on the Alhoa Mura(?) spell the gui closes and you can not get the gui back unless you move to a different room.
also
Spoiler
Shoot terrorist then open inventory gui and wait. The Game hangs.
[close]

On a personal dislike, I don't like the see through buttons on the GUI. To me it just looks wrong.

Apart for that the 3D cartoon style is working better than I thought it would, you can almost order the rooms in the order they were built, you're definatly getting the hang of 3D stuff. Anims are great and add a lot to the game.

Good work. Keep it up.
EDIT: Finished! Yes I want to see Mordy 3

you dont know www.something.something/something.../mordy2.zip/.rar adress.?

If you right-click on a file-link and choose "Open in a new window", even if the link "re-directs", such as is the case with many AGS game links, in the new browser window you will see the address of the actual file link after the re-direct. Then you could simply copy & paste the url address into something like a download manager.

But it's still good to click on the link as provided by the AGS members, as most of the game's creators want to keep a rough "count" of how many times the game is being downloaded, and using the link directed through the AGS site will activate the counter.

Cheers.

Ran into a Bug... After saving a few times, my Save Game name dissappeared... and stuff started going weird, um... for example I have like 20 games some how saved on it, when I was only saving on one file.  Not sure if anyone else ran into that problem
Title: Re: Mordy 2: The Mirror of Truth
Post by: Rui 'Trovatore' Pires on Sat 04/02/2006 10:32:58
Not wanting to butt in where I don't actually know, but if I can hazard a guess, it sounds like MOrdalles didn't put a check in a custom Save GUI. And when you do that and it reaches 20, it can act a bit weird.

Terric, one thing you can do is go to your gamefolder and delete some savegames. They're the ones that say "agssave". The smaller the number, the earlier your savegame is. You probably don't need the first 5 or so savegames anymore.
Title: Re: Mordy 2: The Mirror of Truth
Post by: Mordalles on Sat 04/02/2006 10:57:11
i actually did put in a check to see if you have saved 20 times or not. if you select a savegame, and then save, it will overwrite that savegame, but if you select a savegame, and type something else in, it will save it in a new slot. if you didnt type in anything, he will save in a new slot without any name. if you already have 20 savegames and you type in a new save name, he will overwrite the last savegame.
my guess is you saved each time with nothing typed in the textbox, , so he kept on saving in a new slot? but i might be wrong.

but ill go and have a look anyway. i might have made a mistake somewhere. thx for letting me know.  ;)
Title: Re: Mordy 2: The Mirror of Truth
Post by: Mordalles on Sat 04/02/2006 11:27:05
i just tested the saving, and i couldnt find any bug.
i saved 20 times, and the message saying that i cant save more than 20 came up (although, it was a bit unreadable  ;D), and i tried saving again, and everything worked fine. he automatically overwrote the last save game.

so, terricmoonborn, i think you kept on saving without typing anything in the textbox and withouth selecting a current save game, so the game kept on saving in an new slot without any caption. therefore, when you brought up the load screen, you saw a lot of save game without captions (there it just looked like a blank screen), and the save game with the caption wasnt on screen. you had to scroll down to get to it.

i think ill change it so that when you dont type in anything in the textbox, that the game wil then save it as "default" or maybe even put the time in there. that will eliminate confusion, i think.

thx.

The winsetup.exe made my computer crash several times.
It won,t open, just crash the pc.
The game .exe does work but takes a very long time to open.
What could be wrong??

Some anti-virus and security programs, such as Zone Alarm, automatically scan EXE files when you run them.

Because this game has a large (> 500 MB) exe file, it could well be that your anti-virus program is scanning the whole file before it actually lets you launch the game, which would cause quite a slowdown.

Mordalles, the easiest way to avoid this is to set the "Split game resources" on, and set the split file size to 100 MB or something -- that way, the EXE should remain small so as not to cause problems with anti-virus software.

As a temporary fix for Cees/ildu, you could try temporarily disabling ZoneAlarm or applications of that type and see if it fixes the load time. However I woudln't recommend doing so while you're connected to the internet, for obvious reasons.

Still crashes and it won't even let me delete the file or My Documents or/and Bin freeze.

Hi Mordalles,

I played Mordy 1 and thought highly of it, but the sequel just blows it away IMO.  Everything about the game is so polished it's amazing.  You truly deserve a pat on the back for seeing this game through to the end.  The music was excellent as well, and they deserve kudos too.

I liked the multiple endings.  Both were pretty clever.

Mordy 2 goes alongside Prodigal and Crave as my favorite AGS games during the past few years.  And yes, please make a Mordy 3!

Read through the thread so I am hoping I didn't miss it if anyone else already posted this.  On the screen with lasers, I got this message and then *crash*

An error has occured.  Please contact the game author for support, as this is likely to be a scripting error and not a bug in AGS.  (in global script line 1161)  Error: ObjectON:  invalid object specified.

Hi Mordy!
Nice game, and I'm looking forward to part 3. I found a few minor glitches, though. In the tavern, the GUI with inventory, save etc sometimes vanishes, but I didn't find out why. Also in the

marmeloe, thanks, i'll have a look at that right away, and hopefully fix it!

stomannch, yes, i already fixed it when you use something on the metal and wire and the metal piece. i havent updated it yet, though. i also saw a bug where i forgot to turn back on the gui when you use something with telekinesis. maybe that was the problem in the inn.

thx for the bug reports. i'll hopefully get the fixed version up this week.

Absolutely fabulous game!
Sadly I am now at the same point as some of the others, the serpent girl has vanished.  :-\ I saw her the first time I went in the tavern but never since. So I ran my cursor around various places in the tavern and discovered a "hot spot" in the band room of the tavern, between the fireplace and the hat is a hot spot that comes up with TheArrow3 nothing can be done there, it's just a bit intriguing!  :)

i have a question. lies just let me know he/she was playing the game in 320x200 resolution.

kediri, are you also playing the game at 320x200? im just wondering if that is maybe causing the snake girl to disappear, since i cant seem to recreate the bug. but i have never ever tested this game on 320x200.

Or was it http://www.clickteam.org?

Anyway, CLickTeam has a program called PatchMaker. You need a copy of the OLD compiled game and the NEW, fixed game. Then run the program. It'll compare them and output a file that'll update the old version to the new one.

The Devil and the Death (CS guy) are still clickable after dissappearing, I think you only made them transparent and forgot to turn them off afterwards.

are you sure. I'm pretty sure i fixed that and tested it.

EDIT: i just went and tested it, and couldn't find anything wrong. the counter strike guy is not there anymore, neither a hotspot anywhere. not that i could find. and death is still there, as he should be.

when you upload a new version to the same spot on a ftp where the old version was, he automatically overwrites it, right?

Finally finished it. I loved the puzzles, for the most part they were very logical, but not too easy either, and very diverse as well. The only puzzle I didn't like

Spoiler
was the one with the rock creature in the cavern. Was there any clue to that solution?

Also, I found the music absolutely amazing, it creates a fantastic surreal mood that fits the game perfectly. I really didn't think 3D render graphics would work out for a Mordy game, but you pulled that off very well also. Overall, one of the best and most atmospheric AGS games ever. Congrats! Of course I'd love to see a Mordy 3! :)

Finished both Mordy 1 and Mordy 2 respectively.
Awesome games.
The second one is the best though.. ;)

Although there are still a few bugs in this version (the newer one)
Spoiler
None of the bugs are fatal thankfully.
1) There is a bug after you get the multi-shot spell. After the disk disappears the hotspot for the disk is still there.
2) When the devil disappears the hotspot for the devil is still there.
3) When you go to the mountain place to fight to possessed dinosaur scotsman, walk to the left instead of going up the stairs and you'll be at the top.
4) When you talk to the innkeeper, he says "First door on the left"... You meant "on the right." There are no doors on the left side of the hallway.
5) There's a leftover hotspot next to the fireplace that says Arrow3 (something like that) it's very hard to find but it's on the right frame near the top corner of one of the chairs in the background. |\ at the point.

Found all three ends. 1) Good? ending with the princess, 2) Good? ending without the princess, 3) Bad ending Go to Hell.

Is there an ending where you can take the princess with you without her snapping at you for leaving her back there?

Wonderful job though. Is there someplace to get the game's soundtrack? =P

Hey, I thought that Mordy 2 was one of most professional looking games made so far with AGS.Ã,  The graphics were fantastic, the dialogue was entertaining, and the story was cute.Ã,  I have only one slightly negative comment to make.Ã,  I thought it was too hard with too much running around, and too many pauses to check the forums.Ã,  It seemed like nothing I thought should make sense did, I thought some things were a little far out.Ã,  I'm sorry, but I like to figure the stuff out...maybe it was just a bad couple of days for me and I had a massive brain fart.Ã,  Please, keep making the games. ;D

I contacted Mordalles himself and he told me all of his dark, dark, dark secrets and explained that he is the priest of a satanic cult and the cult demanded that he remove the game. Another reason was because it took up 130MB to download (around 24 hours on 56K) and it wasn't very popular (or so Mordalles says).

i removed the game because looking at the download count, it was not increasing anymore. thus, it seemed like everyone who was going to download the game, has done it by now, so it didnt see any  reason for asking someone else to host a 140mb game for me any longer.   ;D

Mordy:

If you don't mind I would like to host it.

I hope that it won't kill my trafic...

honestly send it over (as I had my drives erased due to a virus) and I'll host it. :)

:D

Take care also,

Nikolas

Well, if people haven't been downloading your game recently, it's certainly not because they don't like it, Mordalles. It's just that it isn't widely known yet (which is very unfortunate, because it is a terrific game). Putting it in your signature and creating new games (maybe smaller ones) from time to time might help.

It seems it still can be downloaded here:

And how about the new members ? This is an expanding community and even if they don't hear about it right away when people play your latest games , like the excellent Duty and Beyond , they would want to download your previous games.I, for one, am going to do so!

I dowloaded a long time ago, but I am still playing the first game in the series. I've actually been looking for a walkthrough for the first installment. Does anyone know of one anywhere? (I've tried doing searches for one with no luck)

Sorry to post in a old topic, but does this game link from the AGS page actually work? I've downloaded a large file game only to get screwed when unzipping the file.

I just do't want to get screwed again especially withis this huge file. I got a download manager so it will take me 3-4 days tops.

Ah screw it! I got meself a download manager and downloading it! Already 10MB down! YAY! :D

Well, looks like the link to the download keeps giving me a new download once I stop and resume. Stupid ass website that is linked to it probably doesn't have the resume feature. BASTARDS. Looks like I'll have to wait till I get high speed intaweb.  >:(

Dead stuck with life key
Spoiler
Tried everything on everything with no success. I have no idea what pitchforks is for, also sniper rifle, and just got a rope, not used anywhere yet. I can't ride a boat, i don't know what fountain of young is for. Upthere it's said something like "for key of life read book in the hall of the inn", yes i did, nothing interesting there, just a name, innkeeper told where that guy lives.

I had no idea this was even released! Mordalles, I enjoyed the first one, and you need to let everyone know of this second one.

Don't blame Mordalles for not publicizing his game; he's a South african, and from what I've seen, they're very humble about these sorts of things. Buloght (a superb South african pixeler) thinks his own art needs improvement. But everyone else thinks otherwise. :)

If Mordy 2 was Dave Gilbert's game, it would probably be remade with tons of features and updated graphics (not like they need to be), and it would probably go commercial. Nothing against Dave, but I like the down-to-earth, laid-back South Africans better. On the other hand, I am somewhat surprised that Mordy 2 hasn't received as much attention as other games, like Spooks, or The Shivah, but that doesn't make the game any less great. In fact, this is probably one of the best AGS games, in part due to the amazing 3D rendered graphics, which almost look like claymation. You are a great developer, Mordalles, and I'm anticipating your next AGS game(s)! If you need any help with any games (mainly the musical side of things), don't hesitate to PM me.

This is one of the games you will get labeled as a cult classic. Man this game was something else, weird and wonderful. Unfortunately when the size gets huge like this people tend to avoid the download... Thats their loss, the game was awesome.

The Commercial vs Non commercial is completely up to the developer. I respect the guys making commercial games I do agree they have the right to get reimbursed for their efforts and good efforts at that. I like Dave Gilberts games, and I think it's awesome what he is doing. I also respect what every other developer that makes non commercial games are doing, providing us with amazing games that we can play for free, and just have fun.

Comparing the two is impossible, (commercial vs non commercial) Let's face it, commercial games are starting to get more skilled people to join into one specific game and they all work together to make it great. You get the game in a nice realistic time frame, and it has good quality. Whilst the non commercial games are made generally one person in their spare time creating the game purely because they love to make games. There is no guarantee the game will ever see the light of day, or get updated or have extras and more features.

I however believe that if Buloght / Mordalles ever do attempt to create a commercial game you can put me on the pre buyer list at no1 cause they have a good history in game creation. I would have gladly paid for Duty & Beyond, it's to this day my most favorite game on AGS. Regardless of the graphics, I love the game purely because of its content. Sure I would love to see the game in a nice hi res graphic version with a awesome composed sound and loads of extras and features, but let's face it the highly adorable awesome pixel graphics have become part of what made it great. (To me anyway) And to state the blatantly obvious hectic graphics would take ages to complete. The game is HUGE, if you have played it you would know how much gfx there are already in the game.

Ok so before I ramble to much off topic, I just want to say once again. Amazing game Mordalles, keep me on your no1 buy spot for any commercial games in future :)

And I'd be number 2 on your list! I doubt that Mordalles would ever make any commercial games, because he doesn't seem to care about money, and he cares more about people having fun playing a good game.
