I am wandering around town, I have got money once but lost it, I have small change, a camera, soap, orange, branch, broken glass and lighter. I have gotten Pegleg out of the bank, but I don't know why, and I can't get the jukebox to work and I can't open the trunk of the car

I got he pirate out of the bank,
played Music at jukebox, bum has left,
got counter in liquor store to 998, I guess
I need one more person to leave it's scene
to make it 999 and me being the 1000th guest
at the restaurant

You are correct. The third person is Griff.

But how do I distract him?
I tried everything on him yet not to avail.

You don't distract him. You're supposed to get him into the store.

If you talk to him, he'll mention he just came from the store, and is packing up the things he bought.

The things he bought are bottles. Hence, fragile.

I figured out the trick with Griff
now I have the counter to 999 but nothing happens.
I gave the pirate in the store the orange.
He's back at the bank. Now I have no more dialogues to exhaust.

I finally managed to get Griff inside, and I became 1000th buyer. How? Buy something by giving money (Mika has some small amount of money- just enough for a beer! :)).

What use does have the branch?
And what shall I do with the wallet? Return it to someone? To who?

Can someone tell me what to do? I have lost the mannequin and do not know what to do next

I cannot do anything whatsoever at the moment

Any hints on what to do next?

With regards to the pirate, you have to give the photo of himself to him straight after you gave him the mannequin, otherwise he won't accept the photo (due to a bug)

If you have problems with this bug, I'd suggest downloading the new version, which has fixed it.

You give the mannequin to the pirate in the bank
and give him a photo of himself afterwards.
Give the wallet to the baron.

The orange you will need to eventually give to Hooky... if he doesn't want the orange yet, you are not at the point of the game where you need to use it.

1) "Play the walkman next to it, he'll be fooled into thinking it works." WHAT walkman? where and when do I get it?

2) "Look in the trunk of the wrecked car, next to the bank."  It's stuck shut! How do I open it?

3) "Have you seen the trash can inside the bank?"  YES! IT'S EMPTY!

4) "Search the liquor store carefully." ummm.... for what exactly? (unless they mean the fern that needs to be photographed)

5) "You need to have other people buy something first. Try Griff, the bum, and McPegleg" - I dealt with Griff but I can't get the bum there cos I don't have the walkman and Hooky isn't going to the sore even though I got him out of the bank.

6) What do I do with the lighter?

Pick up the bottle in the liquor store on the shelves in the foreground. This requires mousing over the bottles for a hotspot that says 'Bottle', rather than 'Bottles'. You'll find it's a bottle of dehydrated oil. Hydrate the oil by using the bottle on the fishtank in the restaurant. Use the bottle of oil on the trunk of the car and you'll get a walkman. Play the walkman near the jukebox and the bum will come out. Give the bum some money and he'll go to the liquor store, so you can go there now and be the 1000th customer. Hooky however, won't leave, so give him the orange. Then buy something from the store with your remaining cash, and you'll get a lot more money. Take the money to the restaurant and give it to the chef

Buy something to become the 1000th customer. But Pegleg is there, so you'll need to give him something to get rid of him
