Title: Russian MAGS
Post by: Sledgy on Fri 04/12/2009 13:33:42
Hi, there're just Russian AGS news about "Russian Meet for AGS" like newspaper or smth like it.

Of course, I'm not good English-speaker, so sorry.

Also in this topic I'll be talking about games from Russian authors, because they're humble, but I'm not.

RuMAGS #2: Star Wars Episode 7

Winner: Legato

Places:

Description: You're Yoda. And you're stucked because of big rock. So help yourself (yes, it's headline for all rumags games))

2. Chewbacca Quest (by Slash Vohaul)

It's mini-video with one interactive action, but it's not game. So pity.

RuMAGS #3: Koschei the Immortal / Robots (topics for choice)

Topicleader: Legato

Winner: Sledgy

Places:

1. Koschei the Immortal: The beginning (by Sledgy)

You almost needn't understand text
download (http://jift.narod.ru/invis/Kashej_B.rar)

Description: You're Koshcei... For short it's story about transforming simple man to evil Russian (Slavic) bad guy, Immortal Koschei. It's char from Slavic tales. But in this game he's not evil, he's ex-warrior who was dropped in dungeon by traitors.

2. FBI Quest (by Slash Vohaul)

Yes, Slash is really good gamemaker ;) Also you don't need know Russian for game, just read description.
download (http://jift.narod.ru/invis/FBI_Quest.rar)

Description: You're FBI agent. And when you'd came back from WC, your partner was dead. It's all because of experiment with new robot (aka terminator). So, you think change yourself (masking to robot #2) for... saving your life, yes!

Nice game with one stuck in mid of quest. But it's for clever eyed guys.

Cursors change by right mouse click: red - walk, yellow - action. You can choose item from inventory at top by yellow cursor only.

3. Ivan vs. Koschei (demo) [GameMaker engine] (by TERNOX)

Erh, It's like experiment. One of rules is ... you can use no AGS soft. I know, it's strange, but sometimes any guys can create good quests in other engines and then they can learn AGS... or smth like it.

So, this game with bugs, but fun. Author is good guy with interesting ideas. And he'll strike back with AGS-game in RuMAGS #4.

[no shot, because it's not AGS game]

no link

Description: After talk with Baba Yaga hero Ivan went to find Koschei and kill him. But his ship is crushed on unknown land, so he must find a way to go to island Buyan (where Koschei lives). Little quest with several items interactions and one dialog with trader. Fun. But it's demo and there're some bugs.

4. Robo Quest (by salewa)

Micro-game in interesting atmosphere with cool music and 20 mb... My god! MICRO-quest and 20 MEGABYTES. It's like trash.

no link, 'cause it's trash microquest.

So that's all.

We in Croatia also call a lot of things trash. We have disco trash nights, eurodance trash, rnb trash. You put trash so it wouldn't seem that you are "really" listening to the stuff, and then you can enjoy it freely.  :)
It's a part of our youth culture slang.

RuMAGS #4: Time Paradox

1. Time is the best gift (by SamosWork)

download (rus lang only): -1- (http://jift.narod.ru/invis/rumags4_TitBG_v102.part1.rar) -2- (http://jift.narod.ru/invis/rumags4_TitBG_v102.part2.rar)

+solution (rus) (http://jift.narod.ru/invis/titbg_solution.txt)

Description: You're guy who got strange present to birhtday from your strange grandpa. But you almost never see him - he's rare guest in your family. So you got post with clock and it's time machine. But you don't know how to use it. So old grandpa's friends librarier and clockmaster will help you. bla-bla-bla.

There're hard and interesting puzzles. Game like modern fable. Imho, it's the most wonderful Russian game in AGS :)

He's winner of RuMAGS #4.

2. Turtles in Time (by Sledgy)

download (rus): -1- (http://jift.narod.ru/invis/rumags4_Turtles.part1.rar) -2- (http://jift.narod.ru/invis/rumags4_Turtles.part2.rar)

download (eng): -1- (http://jift.narod.ru/invis/Turtles_in_Time_eng.part1.rar) -2- (http://jift.narod.ru/invis/Turtles_in_Time_eng.part2.rar)

Description: Very little comedy quest about Turtles Ninjas. It's style of my childish comixes about these guys  ;D

3. Time Quest (by TERNOX)

download (http://jift.narod.ru/invis/rumags4_TimeQ.rar) (rus)

Description: Erh, it's not Time Quest by another AGS author (strangely, I've tried find another Time Quest in AGS archive - but nothing)... Whatever, it's game about archaeologist-historic Fred, who has recently returned from travelling to native city. Fred talked to barmen, bought strange ancient talisman from some grandma in pawnshop. And this talisman is time machine (of course!). So he can travel to past for... what?

It's interesting unusual game with 'eternity gameplay' (heh, because of some bugs) and 'fun end'. It's first AGS work by this author, and it's nice and funny)

(I've even recently created parodic sequel Time Quest 2, but it's another story))

And last hero of this competition... ta-da!!!

4. Time Paradox (by salewa)

download: -1- (http://jift.narod.ru/invis/rumags4_TimeParadox.part01.rar) -2- (http://jift.narod.ru/invis/rumags4_TimeParadox.part02.rar) -3- (http://jift.narod.ru/invis/rumags4_TimeParadox.part03.rar) -4- (http://jift.narod.ru/invis/rumags4_TimeParadox.part04.rar) -5- (http://jift.narod.ru/invis/rumags4_TimeParadox.part05.rar) -6- (http://jift.narod.ru/invis/rumags4_TimeParadox.part06.rar)

Description: It's traditional trash game, yes) What's I mean when I say "trash"? Trash (here) is non-typical (abnormal) game without smth important stuff: no plot / no gameplay / no plot & no gameplay / no plot & no gameplay, but more cool music

So, Time Paradox (nice gamename!)) is game with one-click, cool graphics, cool music, and without gameplay and gamestory.

As I unofficially call it, "mod for Robo Quest") You also must get some lil things (+connect it! it's new function!!! ;), then give it to some ticket window.

Salewa / Yurkov collected beautiful graphics & music in games, but it has *a bit* gamestory and *a bit* gameplay. However I believe he'll learn more and more about AGS and can create some interesting thing :)) Who knows)

Also there's English version to RuMAGS #3's Koschei The Immortal: The Beginning (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?category=100&action=search&sterm=koschei&action=download&game=1251)

Thank you all :) See ya.

There're English versions!

FBI Quest (http://jift.narod.ru/invis/FBI_Quest_ENG.rar) (by Slash Vohaul)

Time Quest 1 (original) (http://jift.narod.ru/invis/TimeQ_1_ENG.rar) (by TERNOX)

and it's parody sequel from me (attention! uncensored!!!)
Time Quest 2 (http://jift.narod.ru/invis/TimeQ_2_ENG.rar) (by Sledgy)

This version without bugs, but then you can't understand parodic Time Quest 2:
Time Quest 1.1 (fixed) (http://jift.narod.ru/invis/TimeQ_v1_1_ENG.rar) (by TERNOX)

Trash Quest (http://jift.narod.ru/invis/Trash_Quest_ENG.rar) (by Slash Vohaul)

I like Time Quest. The graphics look nice and the interface is very well done.

I also played FBI Quest, but I didn't really find out, how this works.

I've also tried Time Paradoxon. I walked around but found nothing I could do.

Anyway, the russian AGS scene seems to bring out very nice games. I'll have it mind for the future.

I dont recognise all of them, but the shop background is definitely from Gabriel Knight 1 (Sins of Fathers).

Anyway, in the rules of RuMAGS they stated that "graphics are not important", so they use everything they can get, I guess.

Dualnames, I think main problem there is that most people who participate in RuMAGS don't know english language too well to use it in the international MAGS. AFAIK all the RuMAGS games are translated to english by Sledgy after initial release.

Maybe they do it exactly because the guidelines of the original MAGS doesn't allow the usage of previously released material.

Well, I don't say that it hasn't been done before. But when I would have the idea to enter the competition and read the guidelines, I wouldn't use ripped material.

All I say is, that it could be that they didn't enter the competition because they thought that they couldn't enter with ripped backgrounds.

Anna was a product of OROW 2, Dualnames.

Also, maybe you should see if Klaus had a good reason behind the rules before dismissing them?

As far as using the ripped sprites as an argument against joining MAGS it's rather a weak one.  Anyone who can run AGS has access to Paint at least, and anyone who can script a game in ags is at least capable of USING Paint.  To be honest, in the RuMAGS games I've played I've seen a lot of custom drawn sprites that looked at least as good as the backgrounds, some of which didn't look ripped to me at all.

Bottom line is it's not really adequate justification to start another competition and I suspect there's more to it than that.

I stand corrected, and I'm not dismissing anything, but I think it's "wrong" to create a community inside another, when we can merge. That's all.
Title: Re: Russian MAGS
Post by: Sledgy on Mon 04/01/2010 12:06:01
Well, RuMAGS is MAGS in Russian language) There're not many games in this lang., and not many Russian AGSers, so main purpose of "Russian MAGS" is creating new AGSers and new Russian AGS games.

Of course then I'll translated it to English (what I can), but there're a bit differents with original MAGS:

1. Not month limit, just week or two week as maximum.
2. Russian sense of text and actions (sort of national humor)
3. And many Russian AGSers for now don't know English and don't want to know)) it. Because all of them wanna Russian games, not English.

So MAGS and RuMAGS are different things of one idea. Any of Russian AGSers then maybe'll take a part in MAGS, e.g., Crimson Wizard. But I don't think there'll be many of them.

For now there're just about 30 Russian AGS games in our archive (not only RuMAGS). So it's main reason.

Well, at least ask for the moderators to allow you to start this on competitions and activities then.

Well, I tried to merge the both competitions, but well, it's okay with me if you guys do what you.. do.

Cheers, James.

In fact this thread was originally there and it was me who moved it here. And no, I don't think an activity limited to a small group of people ('small' in the sense that it's not available to most members of the community) could qualify as an official activity, at least not now.

I just suggested that they do. Whether they'll end up there or not, is really up to you.

RuMAGS #7: Hard student's life

Places:

1. musical 'Students' (by SamosWork)

download (http://narod.ru/disk/19500537000/students_game.rar.html)

Description: Nice game from the great author. There's some crud plot (in students' style) and fun Russian characters. Really interesting thing, you must create present for you neighboor (some chinese soup), but in fact you haven't any money and things for it, so... let's quest!

2. An Ordinary Day (demo) (by mighty might)

download (http://narod.ru/disk/19500619000/ordinary_day_demo.rar.html)

Description: Again clones of one guy xD But really this game is more cooler than SQ Contest. There's almost professional voiceing, cool selfmade graphics and nice realistic atmosphere. But it's demo, and in the first room there's some bad things (no music, a bit hard solution moment). But in next rooms you see nice Russian institute ^^ (maybe quite nice))

3. Third place has two games at once

Johnny Cage. Protege (by Sledgy)

download (http://jift.narod.ru/invis/johnny_cage_protege.rar)

Description: Ahem, parody trash game with action-time puzzles. Strangely, but seems the first level is the hardest level in game O_o Almost nobody can solute it. But in fact it's easy, in every level you must find tactics for solve situation (kill enemy and sorta). Btw, Johnny Cage is MK character, yes. But this game isn't so "mortal kombat" parody, although I used several guys from it. In fact it's just parody to several games, and I created it for lulz.

So, Johnny is a student of some movie colledge here. And he must pass some "mortal exams" for become real actor.

Student Dream (by adm244)

download (http://jift.narod.ru/invis/student_dream.rar)

Description: Really this game looks like previous one, I mean same action elements (but in the next rooms). You're student... although not, you found yourself in ... your student's dream. Mystical and strange. So you must find a way to get out here.

In the game there's "nice bug moment" - in some monitors player can't see anything in the first room. I mean, player is dropped to dark. But really (see screenshot) you must see gray room. So if you see darkness only, maybe your monitor is old, but you can try bright up picture by software function (in Control Panel of Windows) or maybe by hardware in monitor settings (I tried and had no results; only software way worked for me).

In fact, Johnny has more scores from juries. But some of juries just has problem with monitor and can't play with adm244's game! So I solve both these games are in one level of places.

4. Institute Adventures (by Andrey200895)

download (http://jift.narod.ru/invis/institute_adv.rar)

Description: It's really simple game, with simple handmade (MS Paint) graphics. It's the first not so-very-small work from author. But it's small game anyway. And it's trash game) But I liked it, it's not crazy crud, like previously RuMAGS's trash games. Maybe if Andrey should use other's graphics and create more bigger quest, it'd be very fun & cool, but alas.

For exiting room just go to door.

See the first post, there'll be all Russian AGS games. And I planned to translated all of them to English.

RuMAGS #7 is the last one. We decide get a big break.

***

Another, but joke competition

Random Games #1

Four people create one stuff for future game.

1-draw 3 backgrounds
2-draw 3 characters
3-create game intro
4-create game scenario

And no-one of them know what is another member of development do it. i.e. four guys create stuff for game *separately*, without discussing.

And fifth guy (leader, ags-maker) then mix their works to one game in AGS.

p.s. Also all four guys get some instructions for their works, e.g. type of drawing characters (what animal or man, etc).

So we create the first game with

1-Crimson Wizard
2-Legato
3-Boberr
4-SamosWork

(5-Sledgy)

Random Game #1 (http://jift.narod.ru/invis/RandomGame1.rar). Strange, but really fun and "questable" game.

While in Russian only.
