Title: Donna: Avanger of Blood
Post by: an Urpney on Sat 14/01/2012 15:52:05
Hi all,
I'm stuck with password-breaking riddle. What I have:
Name: Bander + instruction to translate it to numeric code, which gives:
B-2, A-1, N=14, D=4, E=5, R=17 - so whole name is: 12144517.
Instruction also states that the final password is 8-digits numeric code (well, states 8 digits, strongly suggests numeric).

Cypher key:
C.K.131211 [of which i guess: "Cypher Key (?) 131211"]

Additional info:
patt.: - + loop (of which i guess "Pattern: minus \ plus loop - so -+-+-+ etc.)

Easiest way:
Take all of translated "Bander" numbers and use the cypher code in -\+ loop:
2-1=1, 1+2=4, 14-1=13, 4+2=6, 5-1=4, 17+1=18
Final code: 14146418.
Right? Well, wrong.

Using the same method but starting with + [so, 2+1=3, 1-2=(-1), etc.] gives me negative numbers, which I guess is wrong.

Any other ideas on decyphering this pass?

PS. Excellent game, Błażeju : )

You're on the right track, but R isn't 17 ;)

How comes?
a1
b2
c3
d4
e5
f6
g7
h8
i9
j10
k11
l12
m13
n14
o15
p16
r17
Sure, in mine (and Blaze's) language there's an extra letter between L and M, but the game's in English...
Argh, I know I'm missing something obvious, I feel so dumb : )

EDIT.
I KNEW it! Removed polish "ł", but forgot about "q", which isn't used in polsih alphabet! Stupid, stupid, stupid!
Thanks, Chrille!

I'm on night 1 and I have no idea what i'm meant to be doing.

I can get blood easily enough from the park, but Donna is too nervous to talk to the guy on the phone. I also have a screwdriver, a fancy pen, a bible, a plug socket, the extra 10 euros from the guy at the hotel which I used for access in the internet café, but no idea what i'm supposed to do with any of them. I've tried going back to the hotel where Donna was shot, but the police are there.

Have a look in the mall, smoking helps you relax (among other things). There's also stuff you can do in the hotel to wind down. Vary between washing your face, sitting on the bed and on the chair.

Bishy - also, take a closer look at things you found on your attacker from the start of the game.

Hello,

I´m really stuck and I'm starting to wander through the rooms like a headless chicken. I wonder if someone can help me. I've got the necklace and I have to get pass the cops. My compulsive smoking tells me that I need a sexy girl to enter the hotel, I suppose it means a disguise but I feel totally clueless about where to find it.

Thanks in advance.

PS: Great game. It's been a while since I played something as good as this. The intellectuals joke was unespectedly funny. By the way, who is the forth? Foucault, Chomsky, Sartre, but the last one I cannot recognize.

Hint: well, have you seen any other sexy ladies around?

Hey all, I'm stuck in around the same place as IconoclastBastard, but just before I guess as I don't get the clues he's getting when I smoke (no clues other the what to do for the night).

I've just gotten the cell phone.

I've unlocked the feder square section on the tube map but can't go to it on the first night.

I'm currently holding 405 euros, and have the dream ladies card (rang them) necklace, screwdriver, bear and power cord.

Can't work out what to do now, seems I have to get into the hotel although there must be a step before because as I say, I don't get any hints about a sexy girl.

Well, i've now been able to get as far as trying to crack his safe.

I know what the clue is, the book of Genesis, and I know it's something to do with all the numbered lines, but I end up with too many numbers (specifically 27, 11, 14, and 20). I have no idea how to convert them into a 4 digit code for the safe.

Hmm, perhaps you're not supposed to use the chapter numbers, but rather something in the actual text?

I have indeed, just to refresh (sorry not sure how to insert the spoiler tags, no forum controls showing up for me, so anyone reading can consider it a SPOILER)

I've just gotten the cell phone from the shop keeper and been to that apartment, cracked the safe ect.

I've unlocked the feder square section on the tube map with the information from the safe, but can't go to it on the first night (which I'm on)

I'm currently holding 405 euros, and have the dream ladies card (rang them) necklace, screwdriver, bear and power cord (and some other things of course, but I think that's all that's relevant)

So I have spoken to dr Mulkin, even gave him the pen, I think I've shown him everything.  I got the name of the person from him that you can then go and 'google' in the internet cafe, but I didn't see any information there that moved me forward.

Ahh, that's odd, although I'd been back to that website twice I guess I somehow either didn't click on the manifesto link, or some bug prevented her to acknowledge it.  Either way, past it now, and I'm glad I technically didn't miss anything puzzle wise.

Thanks for the help man.

@LGM  I find this game one of the most logical adventures I've played so far (needs thought but always makes sense).  I'm only on the first night so far though.

Take all of translated "Bander" numbers and use the cypher code in -\+ loop:
2-1=1, 1+2=4, 14-1=13, 4+2=6, 5-1=4, 17+1=18
Final code: 14146418.
Right? Well, wrong.

Spoiler

I seem to be in the same shoes as Urpney once was, and even though I'm more familiar with the English alphabet, I feel like I've hit a wall...

I've come up with 14136420 (the most obvious) and the reverse of the - + sequence seems to be 32152618 (if the numbers being negative has no bearing).  Then I tried using the Cifer key on the number/name(2 1 14 4 5 19) as if there were no longer any two digit numbers (2 1 1 4 4 5 1 9) which of course leaves the last two numbers with either nothing to change them, unless I loop back to the start of the cifer's first two numbers in order to fix them.  I tried both of these (starting with - and with +), and I think I converted everything back to letters as well, but its all wrong entry.
Now, if I do the looping cipher, I'm not sure how to turn over a number (namely the last one) past 9 if I'm just using 1 digit.  Should I carry the one or what?)

Math has a small threshold of fun for me, so I hope I'm not making it too complicated.

I don't even want to help this kid out anyway, not without more answers about who I'm hacking, I've got enough Euros;  but the plot demands I go on.

P.S. I also noticed that the cifer could be seen as three numbers (13 12 11) in an even decent...is this worth exploring?

Hi, I am really stuck right now.

(SPOILER)  I'm in the Bookery, and I've passed the first test. I'm on the second test and I understand the pattern and rules for the game. I can't figure out how to win, though. I know I need to reply with a philosopher whose name starts with W, but I don't know where to get that information. I've tried everything, and I can't figure out what to do. I've tried all three conversation options and they all mean I lose the game. (fuck you and uhmm were two options, if you were wondering which question I was on.) Can someone tell me what I need to do? Thanks.

Thanks.

I was on day four, and just entered the antique shop. I didn't know what to do about the alarm, and then I heard sirens and saw police cars pull up. At that point the game crashed. I tried to load my previous save from day four, but got this error:

An error has occurred. Please contact the game author for support, as this is likely to be a scripting error and not a bug in AGS.
(ACI version 3.02.1024)
Error: SetActiveInventory: invalid inventory number 0

Was there something I was supposed to do that I missed that set this off? I have a save from day three but don't want to continue if the game will crash again.

wiseawl -- Thank you for the info.

Do you remember how did the game "crash" actualy when you saw police cars? This was a "game over" scene, like those when you get killed or whatever, should take you to the screen where you can undo, restart and quit.

If your saved game got corrupted, it's no problem, as your entering the shop saved your game automatically for the needs of the undo system.
1) in My Documents, find the folder Donna Avenger of Blood
2) make a copy of the file called "agssave.105"
3) rename the copy to "agssave.001" (or 002, or 003, or 004, or 005)
4) if you choose to restore game from the menu, the game with your position in the shop would be saved under the name "undo"

Sorry for that.

I actually can't remember if I saw the game over screen or not. I think it might have flashed for a moment before the crash. I pressed the space bar because I knew I had lost and wanted to try again (after realizing it was a timed puzzle).

Actually, I knew that I needed to distract the guards with girls because I used a smoking hint and it told me so.

I'm actually stuck AGAIN. (SPOILER HERE) This time at the hotel I'm staying at. I reversed all the numbers on the doors and took the bucket of water. I'm stuck in the room now and I know I need to create a short circuit. The logical solution for me is combining the bucket of water with something electric in the room, like the cord from the tv or a lamp or something, but I can't combine the bucket of water with anything. I've tried it with the tv on and off, I've tried the lamp, I've tried combining the electrical sockets with the screw driver, even. I'm at a loss of what to do.

By the way, I'm absolutely loving this game. It's been so long since I've played a decent point and click game.

I'm in what I believe is the last part of the game (or rather, the last night), and I'm stuck with a certain puzzle, involving a musical instrument...

I played this: D c(first black key from the left) E F G B A f(third black key from the left) D c(first black key from the left) E F G G a(fifth black key from the left) B A a(fifth black key from the left, played twice this time), c. I'm having trouble getting the scrambler to work at the Country Sons headquarters. Maybe I just don't understand how it works, but I'm finding it nearly impossible to match the sound frequencies together. I keep getting them wrong even though to me they sound very similar. I also don't know how many I need to get right in a row to open the gate. I'm able to get one correct by guessing after trial and error but the beeping sound doesn't change, or I don't notice the change. Not sure how to go about solving this puzzle. When you click "detect" a second sound appears in background. Clicking +/- you adjust the scrambler's sound until it's the same as the one detected. Apparently it's the matter of the "musicality" of one's ear; I cannot guess them everytime and sometimes have to spend several minutes with the scrambler, but there are many people for whom it's a no-brainer and they solve it on the first try.

Then I tried using the Cypher key on the number/name(2 1 14 4 5 19) as if there were no longer any two digit numbers (2 1 1 4 4 5 1 9) which of course leaves the last two numbers with either nothing to change them, unless I loop back to the start of the cypher's first two numbers in order to fix them.

P.S. I also noticed that the cypher could be seen as three numbers (13 12 11) in an even descent...is this worth exploring?

Sorry, but I'm not certain what you mean.  Do you mean that I should not split a two digit number into 2 one digit numbers?  That would seem to suggest that there's an even six on six conversion from the cypher required, though I don't know what else to try.  It's still kicking my arse, so it's good to know it's simple  ::).

Exactly - you're too clever for this puzzle. :-)
Two digits form one number.
So there are six separate numbers.
BANDER.
1st number = 2, second = 1, 3rd = 14 etc.
Then you add and subtract from then according to the sequence displayed on the page.

I got it! I used the clues provided in the original post (top of page 1) and came up with

Spoiler

The clues:

OP was right about the -/+ loop of the cypher key:

2 - 1 = 1
1 + 3 = 4
14 - 1 = 13 (here is where OP made their mistake)
4 + 2 = 6
5 - 1 = 4
18 + 1 = 19 (R is #18 in the English alphabet)

The answer, therefore, is 14136419

Oh gawd diggity - You're right, I somehow had R coming up as 19!  I caught the OP's miscalculations easy enough, but was too arrogant to check my own work (at least in that one, simplest step) and instead went on to more and more obtuse theories!  Back to Grade 1 for me, now I know my ABC's  :)

Hello, I am stuck.

Night 1.
I talked with Mulkin, I found Talko on the internet, but I don´t know, how to get more info about him to visit him. Because when I type "uni" etc. it didn´t help.
I can go to park, shop, hotel, motel, doctor´s house.

I have the piece of paper with Mulkin's phone number on it, a lighter, the bible, the bloody jacket, a screwdriver, wallet, poster, drivers license, camel cigarettes, wire, train ticket, teddybear, key to motel room 5 and a pen.

Can you please help me?

Yes, She's is full of both.

If its a bug, I also noticed one thing. When you goto to the store first time and you haven't got the money from the hotel clerk yet(you have about 4e left). (Assuming that you take the hotel lighter from the counter); Check all the items in the store and ask to buy all of them, and since you don't have enough money to buy them, give them all back. Then try to leavy and she suddenly asks for -1 or 1 euro, so i pay her and she fees me "minus 1" euro :) I dont know if thats a typo or what, but still.

Well, I just sent you the save game.

EDIT: After rebooting my computer, and loaded that save, I was able to get in to the apartments. I think this is an engine issue instead of your code!

SPOILERS: I think this is my last day. I completely useless with the map of the great woods. I found the notebook and smoke two more cigarettes, but I couldn't mark the right villages.  I just dont understand in which hints I should be focus (contours? cliffs? villages' names? white polygenes? numbers?) what "burial grounds" means?

It's really shame no one else asks about this part I really feel stupid  :-[

Great game!

..what "burial grounds" means?

It's a tract  of land used for burials (something like a cemetary/grave yard)

This is the hints-thread and everybody has different problems â€" sometimes it is the gameplay and sometimes a special puzzle â€" even the language can be something to struggle (I know, what I am talking about ;) ) So you don't have to feel stupid!

I am not far enough in the game but thinking about the theme I would concentrate on the burial grounds  ::)

This has to be one of the best games ever posted to the AGS collection, right up there with the Chzo Mythos/Trilby series. That said, there are a few points where I would have been permanently stuck if others hadn't also encountered the same issues and posted in this thread.

Spoiler

(1) When the vagabond drops the first note into the trashcan, it's not readily apparent that he does anything except walk around and then leave. Unless you're really paying close attention there's not enough to prompt you to search the bin. If you've missed this step, smoking a cigarette doesn't point you in the right direction, so you're left wandering around wondering what else you're supposed to do.
(2) If you save after setting off the alarm in the antique shop your game crashes upon re-loading. Lost several hours of progress this way.
(3) When you attempt to show the poem to the man in the Thai restaurant it does not work at first. I tried several times and he just threatened me with a shotgun. On my fourth or fifth attempt he finally took it and I'm not sure what was different but it took about an hour of trying different things before he finally accepted the poem.
[close]
I saw that others had the above issues as well, and as far as I'm concerned they're the only thing stopping this from being a PERFECT game. Really, really well done.

It's my first post here, so hi to everyone!

First i have to say, this game is awesome. Thank you so much for making it! Few games can build up such an atmosphere, intense and subtle at the same time.

Spoiler

Up til now, i managed to solve every puzzle by myself (even if i did some "real" internet research to get through the tests of the 4 intellectual guys because i had no idea where to find the answer ingame, but it actually was cool to look up the topics they were asking questions about), but now i am stuck for real. I am on this TV show with these 4 guys, and i have to find a way to leave. I thought if i insult everyone enough, the host would kick me out but she didn't.

Now my only options are to say the same over and over again to the 4 guys and the host. Theres a screen behind us which also doesn't help too much, and i just don't know what i could possibly do right now? Are there certain dialogue options to be chosen? I can bring Items to discussion, but that also wont't help. I feel so stupid, i bet it's something absolutely obvious, but i just dont't have the slightest clue. Help would be very much appreciated.

EDIT:

Spoiler

Oh my, how could i not see the phone number scrolling by  :o  seems i first had to cry out for help before the i recognize the obvious, so... sorry for the stupid question *blush*

Hello, AGS fans and creators!
The story was so mind-blowing. I've never seen this kind of animation before. They look like photo-animated characters. Compared to Downfall from harvester games, the animation is much smoother and better looking.
I kinda predicted the real ending coming in the last night, though. Makes perfect sense. Very well made game!

Silly question here....but when I downloaded the game, my computer had a pop up that said this download could be very harmful to my computer, it was written in red and caused me to cancel the download...
I have Kaspersky anti virus on my computer, I was wondering if anyone else has seen this. I'm sure it's not a problem, but I have never seen this before with any other game I have downloaded.

That's weird. I have Kaspersky Internet Security. It has never showed up any pop-up window to alert me for a possible virus/trojan while downloading or playing the game. Did you download it from the official site?

Take the bucket with you.
When you come out from your room, do you notice that the SWAT team is heading for your room number "5"?
Smoking will give you a hint. There are four rooms. From left to right, room "5", "7", "9" and "11". So, your room is the first one to visit...How can you prevent them from entering the correct room? It is easy to figure this out. Take a break from the game and I am sure you will get the idea. The bucket will come handy in the following scene.

Stuck on night 1, what are all the actions i am supposed to do?

Spoilers below:

This is what I did:
broke into the safe, went to the website and found the meeting location of the group (says next day on the map).
called the ladies, who told me to call back later.
talked to mulkin and showed him every item in my inventory.
The only place (I think) have not figured out are the cops in front of the hotel. Tried to bypass them, eavesdrop and mind read. Hypnotism does not work.
Smoking says make sure to follow up on all leads from the dead guy.

Great game btw.

I am on Night Eight, and I feel like I'm missing something obvious:
Spoiler

Donna has gotten the map of Sernov, marked down the areas listed in the book, and Donna has put a red "X" on the map, and taken the map.

Now what?

I've driven to the overlook of the woods, and it feels like I ought to be able to use that map somehow to walk into the woods and find a final confrontation of some sort, but I can't figure out HOW.  I feel like I've either missed a step somewhere, or I'm missing a hotspot.

Now on to my need of assistance...
I am on night 1:  First trip in the subway, added the thug's address to the map, can't go there.  Can't go to the park, can't go to the hotel that Christian was shot in, can only go to the lousy motel and I die in the sun with no chance of retreat.  I have interacted and looked at everything, or have I??

The door to the motel IS a hotspot, but when you're panicking because your character is dying, it can be a little hard to get to.  The wall to your left has a door in it, which can be interacted with.  Took me, like, four tries to get it . . .

lyra, do not use use the "interact" button on everything. Explore all the options you have, the "talk", "take" and later the "interact". The dream is one of the easiest puzzles in the game. I need some tips on how to bite people in the park. Like the cigarette tip says, I try to stay in the shadows and be quick. I must be doing something wrong because its not working for me. I can usually remain hidden fine, but every single time I jump out to bite the person squeaks, runs away, and Donna stops in her tracks. Every. Single. Time. I've been at this over an hour, tried every patch of shadow I can find, and tried varying the timing of when I click bite. This game has been fantastic and gripping so far, but this is a game breaker for me if I can't figure it out.

The easiest way to bite ---

Spoiler

Stand behind the branching tree in the middle of the path, it's the most convenient one.
Select "Bite" from the GUI.
Wait until the person is closest to the tree but still visible.
Go for it.
Also, it makes a difference whether you attack from behind or not.

I've just completed the game and enjoyed every minute of it.
I absolutely LOVE this game.
I have two questions to the author:

1. Aren't you planning a sequel?  ;)

2. Why does Milena travel to Berlin in the end? And also Marlene's song... is there a meaning behind this I failed to recognise?

I've just finished the game as well, and indeed it is very good.
I do have two minor gripes, though. It feels a bit too whiny at times ('ooh I'm a poor little vampire, the world's nasty, boohoo', etc.), and also the game's rhythm is a bit off. When you get the CS arrested and you say so long to, Mulkin, it feels like the end, but it's far from it. So that's a bit weird.

Apart from that, brilliant.

Popeye -

1) Haha, no, not really. I'm afraid it might spoil the impact. Maybe I will make something similar in style, though.

2) well, it seemed somehow right to me; West Germany was the closest haven of freedom when our country was under communist oppression. I love the Berlin's ambience, too.

Sag Mir, Wo Die Blumen Sind is a pacifist's song about the contrast of calm, unchanging nature and man's drive to war. It reminds me of World War II and the Nazis, who were a clear inspiration behind CountrySons.
Flowers growing on the dead.

Narushima -

What you call "being whiny" is a result of my aim to show how a reject from the society of "goodness", a reject from the "light side" feels like.
Notice that the moment you describe might be the end, if you decide so with Milena. The story's over in a way, it's up to Donna's need for revenge to continue or retire.

I see.
Marlene was quite against the Third Reich, that's right. And she was also lesbian, just like Milena.  :)

I don't know much about Berlin's atmosphere (never been there), but considering the time of the game (2014) and the age of Milena (probably in her late twenties) she could not have too many memories about the communist era. She was probably a small child when the regime fell.

Anyway, it was a real pleasure to play this game and I'm sad its over. The story and the atmosphere of the game grabbed me because I also come from an eastern European country "deep in financial recession", and this euroskeptic pessimism and the slight presence of right-wing extremism is tangible. I hope there aren't any demons to help them, though. :)
I'd love to see another game similar in style.

Take care!

Hello, can anyone try to help with the above please, I tried to play again from the start and still stuck... Everyone else is getting answers  ;D

Sorry, tdunaj, must've missed it.

Have you talked to Mulkin after all you've done and asked him about CS and Ernest?

Not to my knowledge, no.

There was one guy who was  thinking about making a video playthrough, don't know what came of it, though.

That was it thank you. Can't believe I missed that, was there before checking with him, must have forgotten the talk option.

Call me an idiot if you like... but the safe in the goon's bedroom?

Spoiler
I guess the clue is the four symbols corresponding with genesis. But there seem to be several passages referring to each symbol, and each passage has a 2-digit number. I've tried adding the 2-digit numbers together in every combination I can think of, to no avail. Any hints?

You're thinking too deep (c'mon, he was a goon, not an intelectual).
Look in the text of Genesis, not chapters. "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth".

Nice Ali, I was caught in the same train of thought for quite a while.

Spoiler
As Urpney mentioned your assumptions are too elaborate for
a goon's simple mnemonic device. The same thing happened to me.

If you think of Genesis and "the creation of the world" there's some
other numerical count aside from verses.

lyra, do not use use the "interact" button on everything. Explore all the options you have, the "talk", "take" and later the "interact". The dream is one of the easiest puzzles in the game. Just read the story in each portrait. You are in the most interesting night I believe. Prepare for many plot twists! 8)

Wow easiest puzzle? I still can't figure it out. I can talk to the paintings and interact with them but where do I find the items they want?

I don't think it's the easiest one, if that's of any consolation ;-)

Read the note from mr Nightly. He says what they want.

The computer password cypher code has been keeping me up all night, someone please put me out of my misery. This is how far I've gotten so far, a direct hint would be nice. I really want to solve this.

Do the dots in mr.BANDER and C.K. 131211 mean anything?

I find it interesting that mr isn't Mr, when it should be capitalised. Relevant?

BANDER = 2, 1, 14, 4, 5, 18  or is it MRBANDER = 13, 18, 2, 1, 14, 4, 5, 18?

C.K. = 3, 11? Edit: lol I just realised it stands for Cypher key

Does - + mean that I subtract the numbers from each other first, then add, or add, then subtra
ct? Sorry I didn't understand the hints for this puzzle in the earlier pages of this thread.

Nevermind, I just solved it by myself.

I've gone through the whole thread (and the game multiple times) and I'm STILL stuck on night 1.

*Spoiler*
So far I've...

taken the stuff from the goon's safe
searched mulkin, talko, and the countrysons website (entered the password and read about everyone, including rightwell)
killed the stationary shop owner
talked to mulkin about CS, rightwell, and every other option
got the feder location on the map
bought everything I can from the shop (screwdriver, bear, etc)
smoking still tells me to 'check out the leads on the bald guy'
I have the fake necklace, the phone, cord, the coat, and a bunch of other stuff

PLEASE HELP ME SOMEONE! I fear the game might be bugged because I've literally tried everything. The only thing I haven't found yet is the ladies thing that keeps being mentioned.

Hey, making my way through the game, and I think I've found a game halting bug.

I've just received the videotape and returned to Milena's apartment. Smoking tells me to sleep, the prompt that dawn is coming happened, and Donna gets naked when she comes in.

I tried viewing the videotape, and it says to ask Milena about the VCR in the morning.

Then I try to interact with the mattress, and the game says "It's too early."

I tried restoring a save and the problem persists.

Any suggestions?

Zgillet -- hm, if it's not a bug, then perhaps you have to examine your inventory thoroughly for something you missed.

9cupsoftea -- you should also have a brothel ad with a phone number.

That's "it".

I must thank Mr Dzikowski for creating such a wonderful and impressing game. I felt I had to play through it a second time, and then took the time to write this walkthrough. It was the best tribute I could come up with.
This was one of the better adventure games I played in a long time. It strongly reminded me of the great era of the LucasArts games.

Wow, thank you, zemilor, this is fantastic!

There are some alternatives, too...

Spoiler

- you don't have to pay for the metro ticket
- or for C's delicatessen
- you can leave the sleepy shop owner alone and get the cellphone later from another person
- you can also get to meet Mulkin by asking about ANTHROPOLOGY or KUNDUKU ISLAND
- there's one more book that helps calm you down (at La Bookery, upstairs)
- you can eavesdrop on the policemen guarding the hotel
- there's one more way of finding out which girl is Rennie (by looking at them and finding scars on the neck)
- you don't have to scramble the lock at Romero's and pick his door; Donna is getting stronger at this point
- teddy bear and fountain pen can give you a full calm boost if you give them as presents to right people

Good job! ;-)

Sorry the following hints are not enough, i can't pass it:

Spoiler

== Pass man with gun ==
Talk with the aggrevated man to learn a bit of the story.
Click on Skills, use Charm on the man.
Talk with him, until he lowers his gun. Then you bite.

What i cannot do
Spoiler

1) how to learn a bit of story? Which dialog options to choose? In my game no dialog option lead to learning a bit of history
2) Which icon is charm: the eye, the ear, the arm or the odd-looking?
3) Which dialog options make him lower his gun?

Oh, sorry, Azerty, I didn't check the thread recently, thought that with the walkthrough players won't have any more problems.

Spoiler
1) Well, you can just try some options and see what happens, most of them end with death, however...
[close]
Spoiler
2) The eye. You can "look" at skills to get their description, much like with regular inventory items.
[close]
Spoiler
3) When you charm him, you'll know it.
[close]

Spoiler
I'm a bit perplexed with you having this problem, to be honest. You should just use the Eye on him and voila. Maybe you don't have enough blood to use the skill?
