A few months ago I talked to m0ds about his Summerbatch idea, and said that if I had time before the event I'd do my best to enter a game. I finally found some free time the last few weeks, and so myself, qptain_Nemo and Kenneth Hyde (The Falling Skywards team, don't you know!?) have been putting together... this...

Moira is tired. The nightmares won't go away no matter how much she drinks, and she has drank enough that she can't even remember why they started anymore (oooh).
On top of this, one of her clients has died before he settled his account (on purpose).
She may have forgotten everything else, but she's not about to forget this. The debt will be collected, even if it kills her (it does).
There are, however, those who remember that which she does not, and they're about to remind her (spoiler).
Sometimes the things that wake us up sweating and terrified are more real than we thought (oooh again).

PISS will have bad language, way too much writing, way too few and easy puzzles, might not get done in time (though fingers crossed!), if it does get done in time you will probably have to pay a tiny bit of money to play it and even if that hasn't put you off the game yet, we had the audacity to call it PISS.
Pretty sure I couldn't sell a game any worse than that... (wtf)
In saying that, I've drawn 6 rooms and 13 characters (which is about half the game) and am pushing the writing and gameplay so that I can have the first part kinda playable in the next few days, which all means: Progress is good!

omg I did a little developer diary with thoughts about designing interesting scenes here (http://ben304.blogspot.com.au/2012/05/piss-developer-diary-setting-scene.html)! :D
And I've done a neeeew developer diary, this time about character design (http://ben304.blogspot.com.au/2012/05/character-design.html)! :-D
And hey, look here, I've gone and started a development journal! (http://mrthreeohfour.tumblr.com/)
Nice!
In the mean time I grab myself a

Delicious!
Mine is still warm though 8-0
Looking forward to it!
And also to the reviews taking the piss out of it! (laugh)
This is literally the most offensive thing ive seen on this forum.
How do you sleep at night?
Cat: Hee hee ;-D
Steve "I wish I was an elf" Leafbum: In your pale english arms, baby.

And it's
still not finished? 8-0 You must have had days, if not several hours to work on it! Very disappointing, Mister Chandler, we're used to you making a whole game while you write its completed games announcement topic in parallel! What is this shit - I mean, piss!? (wrong)
That being said, I've no doubt this game will be good :)
What to say?
SHIT PISS HAPPENS!
Looking forward to this :cheesy:
TomatoesInTheHead: Yes but I've also had loads of games to play. I finished two this afternoon :D
Tabata: ...there really is a smiley for *everything*, isn't there ;-D
Looks impressive. ;)
I think these are some of your best graphics to date - both sprites and backrounds! The colour palette is absolutely gorgeous and a bit more complicated than usually, so well done there, I'm quite jealous of your learning curve! The plot sounds intriguing too, so I'm very much looking forward to this, good luck! :)
P.S. Nice title :-D
I love the bottom 2 screens. Perfect amount of atmosphere and detail in them. Also, the main character's looks are great.
Awesome!
Ben, stop drawing! Go outside! You're making us look bad :=
great news. Just a few days ago I had the feeling it would be time for another 304 game... but why is it not finished yet :P
Looking great. The guy on the bed in the last screen... is he... pissed? or already passed?
And I so want to see the monk guy from the last screenshot walking with his nice clothes :D
What about a small gif(t) of him? :D
Certainly some interesting game titles in this Summerbatch :p Nice work Ben Chandloid!
RT: Thanks mate :)
Ilyich: Cheers, I've spent a bit of time in the last few months working on improving my graphics, it's nice to know it has paid off ;-D
Ascovel: Thanks!
Chicky: But there are crocodiles and things out there :(
Selmiak: It's a mortuary, meaning the guys on the slabs are dead :X. I'm not sure I'll need to animate him walking, sadly :=
m0ds: Thanks Mark Lovegrope :-*
Pretty interesting, so to speak. I mean, perfectly idiosyncratic somehow. Paint me interested, son!
Potentially is something special... possibly isn't so swell.
Black & white striped stockings are just about enough to catch my attention -- but the way you summed up the story struck a chord with me. Maybe because of the dream I had just before waking up? (about green-faced zombies and alien bugs who lived inside their heads and controlled them -- eek!)
This looks rather splendid. Love the art! :)
And I thought you were DEAD, Ben! That was, what, three weeks without a game? :-D
Looking forward to this. I hope there will be a LEAKED beta (laugh)

Ah ha, I see what you did there!
This game looks very cool, Ben. I'm liking the larger sprites. More detail (and much more legginess!) :=
I second that, I too like the direction in which your spriting style is evolving. Higher res, more detailed sprites, pure pixels - great! If you have worked on your style in the past months, then it really shows.
I just can't get over the fact that the cow-guy (I think that's Ponch, by the way) has such low-cut pants that his pubic hair is showing... That's just... eugh! Indecent!
Fitz: Hooray for stripy socks ;-D
Gameboy: Cheers :)
Ghost: Ahahaha "leaked beta". Serves me right
Ponch: If your games have taught me anything, it's that legginess counts! (and boobiness and bumminess)
Kastchey: I have, and I am glad to hear. Thanks!
WHAM: *silently adds a second chalk line to the "number of people I've offended with PISS" board* := (ps it's a crocodile-goat-man, not a cow-guy. If I was going to put Ponch in a game he'd only be wearing a robe and be surrounded by a harem of ladies, of course)
Looks bloody beautiful! Sounds very intruiging to boot. Heck, I'm sold:)
When you wonder why can't you make a good game, it's vitally important to look at Ben304's profile. He always makes me feel bad about myself. :~(
And to think a few neo-nazi Greeks will be able to pay a few mere euro cents for this. Nice work Ben!
Pinback: Considering how much I admire your work, I take that as a very big compliment indeed! Thanks!
Dualnames: Oh, hush you.
m0ds: I consider myself completely non-prejudicial with regards to who wants to give us money. Even if they're neo-nazis, I guess.
In an exciting update, I've done a little developer diary! Check the first post!
LOL @ "PISS", I don't think I could come up with a pun everyone else hasn't already used  Everything looks kick-ass just everything you do cuz you rock that hard. Hell, if you made a game where a stick figure watched paint dry I would download it. Cuz like I said, you rock that hard.
Thank you! I have added "Stickman: Paint Observer" to my list of games I need to make (nod)
To celebrate the fact that I painted the last scene for PISS this weekend, and because CosmoQueen is so lovely, I shall show another screenshot! It's not my favourite by a long way, but the ones I really like would spoil things a lot if I showed them now, so this will have to do. Behold:
wow, some seriously nice reflections you got there.
But now I'm wondering, why is the cursor a hand wearing leather gloves while the girl that is in every picture and is probably the player character isn't wearing leather gloves. Or is it a hawk's head? ;)
Absolutely love that floor. You're getting quite talented Ben.
Lovely head mural on the left wall. Stylish and slick. Makes me think of Mass Effect, but these days, pretty much everything does ;-D
Also, nice to see a classic cursor!
Daaaawwww thank you!! And that is absolutely gorgeous! I love how shiny and reflective that floor is. Lovely little detailed things like that make me happy :)
That blue guy - best sprite yet.
Oh and NICE PISS FLOOR, BEN.
So Be- er er, Ponyhead. How did you do the reflections for the moving character?
selmiak: Thanks Chris. The cursor is a sneaky reference to the pointer cursor from Baldur's Gate (http://www.mobygames.com/images/shots/l/331015-baldur-s-gate-windows-screenshot-this-momentous-act-of-sacrifice.png) because 1. I am a nerd and 2. Most of the rest of the game is basically a Planescape: Torment fangame (without being in the Planescape setting or an RPG) and I thought I'd better mimic at least one thing from another game. Also, it's a recoloured version of the cursor from <3 (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/Games.aspx/Detail/1436) which was a Baldur's Gate/Torment pseudo fangame as well, and I am too lazy to come up with another cursor. That, and having the leather bit adds contrast to the cursor, meaning that it's more easily found on a screen than a cursor of just a single hue.
RT: Thanks man. Don't see you around much these days, hope you're working on games like a good fellow.
Ghost: Thank you, sir! I have not played Mass Effect, but perhaps one day I shall.
CosmoQueen: Once again you are most kind. Thanks! :D
Chicky: THANKS BRO HAHA
Armageddon: When I did it back in 2009 for Fragment (http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_vx9Sh4X1_FY/SpjBNunBalI/AAAAAAAAAEE/ZaBCzMlb98A/s1600-h/2.PNG) I used a character following the main character everywhere, but it was a terrible way of doing it, which lagged and was clumsy in code. Since then I learned how to use DrawingSurfaces, and so I simply created a dynamic sprite of the main character's graphic and flipped it upside down and made it transparent, which I am pretty sure is how CalinLeafshade did it in Eternally Us (although I can't do the fancy splitting a sprite into slices like he can). It's quite neat and works nicely.
Could you explain that a little more? I need some reflections in my game at the moment and don't know how to do it.
Depends on exactly what you want. PM me specifics so we don't get this thread offtopic :)
Was it ever on-topic? Also why are you ponyhead?
Shamefully due to an imgur thingie related thingie, I can't see any of the wonderful images posted. At least I had a chance to see them before this topic was created.
Stay on target...
And I've done a neeeew developer diary, this time about character design (http://ben304.blogspot.com.au/2012/05/character-design.html)!
Just in case the updates I've given here simply aren't enough, I've started a development journal (http://mrthreeohfour.tumblr.com/) where you can watch me go from "Hooray, another productive day" (like I am now) to "oh sweet merciful Chris Sawyer this will never get done in time" (check back for this phase closer to the deadline).
Enjoy ;-D
The screenshots were all outdated so they've all been replaced with newer ones!
We're fairly close to beta - not sure exactly when we'll get there, but the end is in sight. This is easily the most complex game I've built, so there's a lot to tweak and fix, which is slowing things down, but bit by bit it's getting done.
I'm particularly intrested in this game, a serious theme and nice graphics (as usual). I like all those fancy things like reflection, sparkling cursor etc, and while you seem to be describing it like a 'half-ass' attempt, anyone can see a lot of effort went into this game so I'm highly anticipating 8-)
The best of luck!
You're an artist! I'm going to play ALL your games.
Pretty, I really like the shading on the dead body.
Thank you.
Game is like 95% done. Plan to be at beta on the weekend, and then will just be polishing, touching up, fixing and finalizing from then on.
Have some screenshots:

Yay, looking sweet, Ben! Can't wait to play the finished product! Or, you know, the full beta. ;-D
Hmm, from all the Ben304's games this seem to be most colorful. In terms of saturation amount. :)
Looking good, Ben, really a step forward graphic-wise!

By far my favorite screenshot.
Game looks interesting!

Ooh, gorgeous new screens! Some crazy detailing there, and look at all those lamps! It's lamplicious! ;D
I am a-tingly with anticipation! Any info on "estimated game length" compared to your other games?
Please release soon so that I can PISS myself!
That last picture looks too amazing. I was wondering, do you use perspective lines when drawing?
That background with the skulls and water is just phenomenal. I'd take my hat off but I don't have one.
Looks awesome.
May I suggest Character.Tint()?
Thank you, very encouraging comments. It is the most saturated game in terms of colour, this is something I've been pushing myself to do.
I didn't realize that I picked screenshots with an abundance of lamps until Ilyich pointed it out! I like lamps :cheesy:
With regards to game length, I honestly have no idea. I can pretty much say with certainty it's *easily* the longest game I've done, and it's certainly the biggest. I wanna say it's about the length of 2 ~airwaves~ but I can't be sure. Release date is scheduled for around the end of July.
I do use perspective lines when drawing, but extremely rarely. None of these scenes were done with perspective lines, and the ones that I do use it for I usually like the least.
Character tinting is definitely on my list of things to do!
Thanks again, all :)
Hey Ben, what your title 'PISS' exactly means ?
Are you interested in a free french translation ? (I'm not busy these day it's would be a real pleasure for me :).
Otherwise, I've always loved your graphic style ;): it's wonderful all these cheerful colours !
Thank you :)
As for a translation, currently I am still adding dialogues, descriptions, that sort of thing. It's a very wordy game (over 30,000 words) and much has been cut without actually being *cut* from the game, so there's at least another 5,000 words of unused stuff in there which I'd need to clean out before getting it translated. I appreciate the offer, but for now will focus on actually building the game. :)
"PISS" takes several meanings, these are those that are relevant to the game:
It is a slang term for alcohol (and being or getting "pissed" refers to drunkenness), it is a slang term for urine, it is slang for being angry ("Pissed off") and it in general considered an offensive word to use in conversation.
Cheers!
Your screenshots are driving me crazy (http://www.pic4ever.com/images/ugly_irre.gif)
I can't stand waiting for to get this any longer.
I NEED to jump right into that PISS ... ahem ... yes!
Thanks Ben but I am still motivated. I've done a Nelly Cootalot, Chance of the Dead & Lylian episode 1 french translations so when I'm saying that I am pretty good. Otherwise, I understand the game is not finished but I'm ready ;)
Unfortunately, I haven't a Windows computer now but just a Linux laptop so it will be a blind translation, sorry... :(
wohah, how nice these screenshots are. Can't wait to play it. :D
Looking splendid as always, 304. Played all your games and I'm looking very much forward to this one :)
Very odd name for a game.
I have to go and pee now. ;)
Looks flippin' gorgeous as usual, man. I like how you almost never use black. It gives everything e very 304ish feel.
Keep up the brilliant job.

Thanks guys!
The last couple of weeks have been pretty rough, but the end is in sight: I finally have a bit of free time to put the last few finishing touches into the game and then it'll be ready for Summerbatch!
