This silvergrey fedora would fit me perfectly   It's about time that all those background artists of Indy Jones games compete against each other.

A list of lost cities (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost_city) at Wikipedia (just to give you an idea...)

Expedition Diary
(the virtual hunt for the lost city)

November 25th, ...
I visited a public lecture this morning, the stuff was rather boring. Didn't know what got me there in the first place. Maybe to much free time of my own. But on one point it got really interesting. A old man barged in, seemed pretty much in a state of agitation, repeating the same fussy words all and all over again. Poor old man, the security escorted him out. I wonder what was the act all about. . .

I smell adventure and my nose never betrayed me.
I gonna find out!

That's the only sneak peek I will show till I'm finished and the end comes near.^^

In French we call that kind of tongue-in-cheek provocation "blowing on the embers" ;) ...And it seems to be working, I'm all exhilarated.

If I manage to get an idea and time to do it, I'll be sure to enter!
My hand can use the training. ;)

This theme actually fits perfectly with the game I'm working on so I'm IN!!!

Let me also say that I'm not cheating as this is not a background I was working on at all just yet (It's actually one of my end-game backgrounds from probably a couple of years from now, but this will give me the chance to lock it in a bit and base the rest of the game backgrounds on its style so they match)

It will be completely drawn originally from this moment on...

At the moment I'm sketching. I need to put a lot of thought into it because we intend on reusing that bg for our game, so it's not just a drawing, it has to be functional and it has to match the cutscenes that shall happen in it.

Thanks =)

I would say that if you want critics, then you should post it on the critics lounge. ;)
You can always post your WIP here if you wish to show it, and update it later on.

Yesterday evening I noticed that Hexels had a public beta (http://hexraystudios.com/hexels-public-beta/) for a new version that introduces animations, new modes and layers! So I decided to give it a try :D

Very nice theme! Lately I'm dealing with "ruined landscapes" settings, so I jumped right in :D Two birds with one stone.
This was made in about 2 hours (I don't think I'll refine it, but anyway)

That's just good old Paint.Net, used exclusively for drawing lines. If you're asking about the perspective/3D...then I'm afraid all the magic happens inside the head :D
Title: Re: Background Blitz - lost cities OPEN until 20 December
Post by: ... on Tue 02/12/2014 18:16:57
Oh that. That, it is not so hard to see what OUXX is doing.^^

light green was setting the perspective as to say horizon
blue gives the round room a go
purple blue shows a entrance on the left followed by a bridge like way to the middle onto the platform and ends right side with a bridge like way again
red marks the screen pic, could also used as gui
red margenta is a help line for the puma like head in position

you were playing around with dimensions and highs and composition^^
well you were metioning your game purposes

8-) let's see, if my colored finished vision in head will come true to be in the end
kind of interesting, how close I will come

[imgzoom]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/107389340/AGS/BG_Blitz/Lost%20City/400_Straight_version.png[/imgzoom]

Backstory -
"Day 16

Well Professor, i guess this means the map isn't fake after all. You can't blame me for being skeptical though. I mean, a lost Incan city situated in the heart of the Himalayas? It doesn't even sound credible!

A storm opened a crevasse last inght which we sought shelter in and, lo and behold, we found a spiral staircase lit by some kind of internal heat. It might just be the Fire Trial you talked about. If we survive that and your reckoning is right, water should be next, eh? And me without my water wings...

I'll send this missive back down with the last of our guides so you should get this a little over 2 weeks after we go down the staircase. I'd say that if you haven't seen me in the flesh by that time, i didn't make it back.

See you in a fortnight, Professor.
A. Murdoch."

and here is the version which i've tried to give an idea of what effects will go on in-game:

I think the people's love of styles and personal taste will kind of lead to the result. That makes everything so exciting. As for me, I am a totally old school pixel artist. (laugh) Someone just has to love this competiton. And I do! I couldn't wish for a better start here in AGS.

My Photoshop file got corrupted after a 4-hours long painting session >:( I can't open it.
It's the first time it ever happens to me. I'm currently trying some PSD repair tools.

EDIT: What. The. Funk. I've just opened the PSD file with a text editor to see how corrupted it is, and it turns out.. It's an AGS .agf file inside!!! I don't know what happened with Windows, if it got mixed up when flushing the data to the USB drive where I keep my files, but... That's it. My PSD file is now a broken AGS game file. It's all gone. I'm gonna cry. :~(

I deeply regret for what happened to Ouxx. Hang on man!
I'm sure your talent and commitment will always be above
any difficulty.

As said Raul Seixas (a great Brazilian composer):

See!
Don't say that the song is lost
Have faith in God, have faith in life
Try again!

Drink!
For the living water is still withholding
You have two feet to cross the bridge
Nothing its over! No no no no...

Try!
Raise your thirsty hand and start to walk
Don't think that the head holds if you stop
There is a voice that sings, there is a voice that dances
There is a voice that spins... dancing in the air!

Want!
Is enough being sincere and desiring profoundly
You will be able to shake the world
Try again!

Try!
And do not say that victory is lost
Are the challenges that make living the life

Here the song: http://vimeo.com/62728821

<story of my life, volume II -- soon in your favorite bookstore>

That's what I usually do, but I do it at the beginning of the session. That's what I did yesterday : I opened my file, and I was expecting to immediately do a "File-->Save As" to create a backup and start painting in the new file. But the file was screwed up and wouldn't open.

It's not that bad, I mean, I just have to start over from the last image I posted in the forum, but you know how it is, the motivation takes a big blow when you have to re-do for 4 hours what you did just the day before. Dammit.

I'm currently trying a hard drive recovery tool to see if it finds the previous version of the file -- I suspect that if Windows got mixed up when flushing file streams to the USB drive (to the point where it wrote an entirely different file!), then it might have started using an entirely new data area on disk. So if I'm lucky, the previous file bits are still there somewhere.

I'm still baffled by what happened. How a PSD file could have become an (incomplete) AGF file inside is beyond my comprehension.

Are you absolutely sure that this is what happened, and that it's not some huge coincidence: Like you had an AGF file which happened to have the same name from ages ago and are mistaking that for the file you saved, and the file you saved got saved to some obscure folder somewhere by mistake, maybe on a completely different drive? Have you done a full search for the lost file on all your media?

Anyway: best of luck either way!

I'm still in for this one, but am staring over.
I was experimenting with Blender, but my skills there are just not where I can get something useful out of it. I'm now moving to "sure" ground and AutoCad my BG. :) At least I know what and how to to do stuff there, so there's a chance I can get something decent out of it, that I can later on use in my own game. I'll post my Blender file also later on, just for reference where I was going with it.

I don't think that should be possible. Are you absolutely sure that this is what happened?
Yes I'm sure: the files had different names, were in different folders, and were opened in different programs that do not even know of the other program's file type. It's positively impossible that I did a "Save As" in AGS and overwrote the PSD file, since AGS wouldn't even display the file in the "Save As" window. And I didn't do a "Save As" anyway.
If the .agf data inside the PSD file was complete, I could believe in a human mistake, but the fact that the file is incomplete definitely proves that something went wrong at software/hardware level.
I suspect it has to do with the cached writing onto the USB drives. You know how it works: the OS stores data and then the OS flushes it all when the right time comes. If some USB driver (at OS level) crashed, then maybe the file handlers got mixed up or something. I recall my USB mouse driver crashing approximately at the same time the issue happened.

Okay, here's my WIP after 2 hours work. :)
I know, doesn't look that impressive, and I only threw in a few textures to be able to get an idea of how things are progressing, but I'm hoping I'll end up with something decent when I'm done...
the water is looking very weird, but then again it's the first time I try doing water.  :-[
Might have to try 3DSMax for the final picture render, but this is enough for now.

EDIT 2: A little new updated version, added a few details here and there and a dome for atmosphere (and cause I have yet to figure out how to change the sky in AutoCad, if at all possible)...

LOL (laugh) Thanks, although am going for something less "earth bound" though. Just haven't got there yet.
Been playing a bit with lighting, but something is seriously off, since I end up with huge amount of light, when I just wanted a scarce dim window lighting... but the light I put in a window is enough the light the entire building across the street... 8-0 But I'm sure that eventually I'll find the "lighting scale" and be able to scale it down to a more realistic amount. Think I'll go back to working on model detail and return to lighting later on.

EDIT: Solved the water mystery at least! Probably also the lighting... I just remembered I hadn't set the units when I started the drawings... it was assuming I was using millimeters, but I use meters... so adjusting that and adding a degree more of quality to the render (take 5 minutes longer), and now I have water that does look like water! I'm a happy camper! :-D I really should go back to modeling some more, but I really wish to play with textures a bit more...

Thanx for all the kind words.
Well this competition is a nice little warm up for the demo project. And a good training for my own future project, too.
I do not know how the boys will like to have it all be, but for myself I came up with a technic that mixes old school pixel art with modern elements. I call it a reload of good old times, but with some spice to it. And it is a lot of work. (laugh)

My electicity system seems not handling current temperatures pritty well, it keeps crashing. I hope, I'll be able to make it. I just can upload continuously files to my online gallery. If happens the worse, by smart phone I still could post a link to the last step I was able to make.

We will see.

(roll) I know who will be happy jumping like a little bunny.

I guess, tomorrow all the tiny tiny detail pixels will be finished and I can finally implement the 3D-Mask. After that pixels will come a way more easier together. And in the end the file is able to leave MSpaint and jumps into the next tool for all the nice modern effect stuff. I like a good rich salat, yami!  :-D :-D
Happy painting.

Well what ever happens, if I make it or not, I already got one of the best rewards. It's been a true adventure to follow the pixel brush and see where 'they' might lead to. Now, time is against me, I have to fly on 16th. 4 Days are hardley enough time, I just love art to much to bodge it careless. But I try to make it anyway and hope to find some hours to finish the rest. What a thrilling journey.  ;-D

Wow Mandle, aerhm... no, no I'm not that typ who is following others. The most fun IS to figure out other ways and technics all by myself. Sure I was looking here and there over times to see how others are working. But I do it, if I feel bored, for entertainment I guess. I tried to find somebody who is like me, wasn't lucky yet. Most artists I came across are... how do I say it.... sloppy.

I will not start at this time to get into technical jargon with you, Mandel. But my homepage is planed to hold my future references and sure a few tutos, why not. I'm kind of educated in some arts, not only graphics. But never needed University, besides I can't even fund it. For me it is enough to be passionately about it. :-D And I am not unhappy about the fact that my parents are my fans.

have artistic family^^

Thankfully the rest is hidden all in shadows. *count* Around 4 to 5 possible work days left, hmmm. Basically it should be enough for all the small objects. *breathe*

Here we go, pixel marathon. :-D

Wow Mandle, aerhm... no, no I'm not that typ who is following others.

I kind of inferred from your opening "Wow" and the following "aerhhm" that you were a bit upset by this particular part of my post. Was this the case or am I way off track? There are a LOT of sarcastic posts in online forums so I can easily see why my comment would have been taken as one, but I was honestly asking out of respect for the art that I was seeing you develop...

I didn't mean any offense to suggest that you had learned how to do your art from anyone else.

But for me, any great artist learns how to create their own vision from the older and the wiser. That does not mean that the younger artist's work is in any way lesser. In fact it is all the greater for having learned not to repeat what has already been done before, but to build on that structure.

It is awesome that your parents are also talented artists and that they support your own art. That is a rare and valuable thing in this world, and I envy you for it.

I can't wait to see what your project is going to become (before or after the competition time limit)

You only made me speechless, I was been moved that's all. I know that your heart had asked honestly. We could PM, if you like to. Hahahaha. But I tell you this, if you really wanna discuss EVERY single step, we have to speak over weeks about it. Ok, it depends a bit on, how deep you already are into pixel arts. And well, I kind of have my own way to do things.

You know, I was spending 3 years with an artistic painter, who had his own gallery and all. I'm not sure, if it was luck. He run the art school at the college. Most at the time we two argued, but it was fun. He made sure that we knew all about art basics, it was like getting tortured with art analysis. Hahahaha. I always was a bit upset with him, because he was only strict on me.  :P

I guess you will be looking forward to the demo game than.
It is my honor to compete against you, I was looking forward to that myself.

You know, being "strict" with you, might just mean he saw your potential miles away, and he knew that being strict would only make you better and take advantage of all you potential. So even if it's a pain that he's only "picking on you" in the end he might just be doing you a favor. ;)

Thanks Mandle. :)
Ended up using the old "picture" on a wall to get sky the way I wanted it,

You can guess that it's so lost, that it's not even to be found on Earth... ;)
It'll be one of the 3 cities the heroes will need to visit for my BSG game. So by the time I'll need to add it to the game, there's a good chance that I'll change some stuff and add more details... used more time getting the texture right than actually modeling. And then, am not even sure I'll stick with AutoCad for rendering the final image... ;)

Cassiebg I like your background, there is something mysteriously appealing to it, maybe because, like someone said before, it reminds of many imaginary places without being any of them (that scene in Brazil and many others, like Edgar P. Jacobs' "Atlantide").

===========

This is my entry! I'm happy to be done.
In order to celebrate, here is a sound effect :
Spoiler

OLD CITY LOST. RECLAIM IT! DEFEND THE OLD CITY WALL!
(gamers will know)
[close]

STORY:
Nobody knows for sure where this lost city can be found, but skilled whip-carrying archeologists will notice that this is a strange mix of Mayan and Roman Christian art and architecture. Maybe in South America? And GOD, there seems to be a lot of Gold in there! Just beware the Great Jaguar god if you try to get in to snatch all that gold! Who said "booby traps"?

Yihahahaaaa! I can see it, I can see it.
OUXX you warm up my heart. Lovely, I wanna hug it.
Aaaaand almost as I had imagined it, I came pretty very close. :-D

OH, I'm sooo tired. I might fall into bed and die. The two final layers in two days that's so freakin crazy, I must be crazy! Light effects aren't so huge parts of the picture, but the textures. I wanna cry.... I hate dead lines, it's the death to all great art. .....or an artist.^^

(http://yoursmiles.org/tsmile/tears/t2309.gif) I just can't aim for less.

Currently I'm granting your wish, Mandle. ;)

I already know that this kind of rich detail work will take almost another week of effort from me. I lost to many days and stopped the process, even progress is gained fast now. I'm taking a rest, I might become sick.... or ..... or I'm pregnant. :-D But I don't think so yet.

Anyway if I push myself over the limits, I would have to pay. And I'm not risking my health or waste the concept art for a low quality entrance. But I will finish it within the next days till new year. It was a pleasure. I got the motivation to perform and try out what I had developed in two months work. That is a really shiny goal.

@Monsieur OUXX - 8-0 8-0 8-0 - stunning, simply stunning.
@Cassiebsg - Oh, i'd be walking around that environment thinking "who were these beings and where did they go?" Sort of like the same feeling i had when i played The Dig for the first time. There's kind of an eerie feeling about it - and the water is superb. I love the water!
@Mandle - gogogo! looking really nice and feels really good too. Really like something i'd want to play and explore =)
@Adventuress - seriously can't wait to see this finished =)

@Cassiebsg, Monsieur OUXX: Wow great entries!

Originally I wanted to make this a scrolling room, but I ran out of time. So here is the left part of the room.

"Are you sure we are on the right track here? This doesn't look like a lost city at all." "Don't you see the red torii over there? This must be the gate to the shrine. If my interpretation of the ancient scrolls is correct, we will find the entrance to the city there."

Hihi, in some minutes midnight is knocking onto the door. Well I came this far, the first steps onto the skin, which will be a way more detailed at the end.

I will not withheld my thoughts.
A city which name got forgotten. A underground passageway leading through the caves into the mountain, found by an accident. My protagonist is a bit hobbling and not so fast on his way. Who wouldn't with a broken part of one of the legs? It happened at night time, in the jungle not far from the camp. When everything got mixed up in panic. Fallen down into a deep hole in the ground, searching for a way out. A not so dead city will gotta be found soon and save a life.

(laugh)
Mandle you got your wish and the asked for words, you know the way. Let me hold the door for you.... open Gallery (http://howlite.jimdo.com/gallerie/)

As we have so many WiPs being posted and are hitting such a busy time of the year for everyone I would like to propose an extention to the deadline.

The problem is that I doubt extending any time from now until Christmas will help out many people. It's just too busy a time for most.

Is it too long an extention until Dec 28th or 29th? This still give people a good 3-4 days after Christmas to finish up (including myself).

It just seems a shame that a contest with a theme that generated so much interest would end with mostly unfinished works because of the time of year.

What does everyone (and especially the contest host) think?

I am in Europe, but I have been to Japan last year, which inspired me a lot. I actually made some kid's games already (although in a different graphic style - BG Blitz is always a great opportunity for me to try something different).

OUXX, yours is awesome. Is that BG going to be in your Indy game?
Cat, I like your broken torii but I'm really intrigued to see what else was to be on the rest of the background.
Adventuress, this is looking like the start of something really special. I really hope to see the final version soon :-)
Cassie, that's one pretty surreal city you've got going in there. I'd definitely play a game based here.

Well if we speak strictly about it, we had started on 25th, correct or not? That would mean 5 days are missing to a whole month. But I think they were meant to be for voting. I don't mind, if we do an extension.

As for me, I still can only eat neutral food like potato. I don't even know, how fast I will recover. Maybe I'm not even able to make the visits. Mostly I just lay down. So nothing is save. Now, the official competition has ended, I can recover my whole system now. So or so or so, I am not able to use the whole days for sure. But anyway, it would be nice to have more finished products. How ever  :-D, we all knew about the time limit right from the start, hehe.

Do as you like, if OUXX and Yakata(...) not mind.  ;)

They shouldn't be blurry. That's the point of me scaling them up x3 (nearest neighbout). I do it myself so that there is no room for some random in-browser scaling up.
Someone has his navigator pages zoomed in! Bad, bad Armageddon! Are you sure you page zooming is set to 100%?

I'm shaking my head in disbelief. (wrong) What else? What else will happen? My backups are getting corrupted, I'm losing stuff right under my nose. Wouldn't I have some online storage places, everything of the last month work were lost for ever. 500gb hardware and not worth to use, great, simply just great. My motivation is at rocks bottom. I'm on the brink to become really angry, no chance to take it as funny any more.

Well at least the W8 is running as supposed to now.
:-\ Do anybody know a save online place, where I could make a backup of my own AGS project?
As long as there is the chance to save something. I really don't wanna lose the rest of it, too.

I got a bit more drawing and shading/texturing done tonight:

Still a lot to do over the next two days:

Notes to self:

* Finish the sketch
* Finish the shading
* Add lighting
* Draw lighting effects
* Add Colours

And probably much more that I will not get finished in time...

Got some more work done today, and pushing onwards. Here is what it looks like so far:

[imgzoom]http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c201/Mandle/LostCity16_zps1a708b1e.png[/imgzoom]

I have almost fleshed out the structure of the island of R'lyeh, but now I have a problem I will have to think on while doing the rest:

In the game I have planned the island will be at the bottom of the ocean but it will also be risen and above the waves at some point so I'm not sure how I'm going to light the scene.

Hehe...who am I even kidding? I'm not getting this finished in time anyways...

Maybe...

EDIT: And yes, this is actually exactly what the inside of my mind looks like...

You will probably have to make two different versions, the light and color is totally different under water.
I hope you will finish this great background and game!

I hope you will finish this great background and game!

Thanks for the kind words, but as you can see from my last post I am having a few...ummm..."difficulties" shall we say?

BUT!!! I shall press on despite the slow drainage of my Sanity Points. However, I will not be completing this background in time for the deadline. I feel guilty as I was the one who asked for the extension, but at the same time I am glad that an amazing background got into the competition because of it.

My background is still a work-in-progress but I decided not to rush it as it is going to be playing a major part in my current work-in progress-game and I want to get it just right.

I'm not sure if it can be accepted to run in this contest in its current state or not: It could conceivably be a background for a Cthulhu-themed game played entirely in a notebook of sketches from a person driven insane (heh...actually not a bad idea for a Cthulhu game)

Either way, I'm fine with the decision, but I'm submitting my last post's WIP background just in case it can compete.

Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn,
Mandle.

It's in the first post :)

Now for the voting - this is really hard, because there are so many great backgrounds.

   - Concept That's a close one between Cassiebsg and Mandle, but I'll go with Cassiebsg because this background was finished.
   - Artistic Execution Another close one between Monsieur OUXX and Yakatakatulla. I decide for Monsieur OUXX because of the amazing pixel art with great shading and all the nice little details.
   - Playability This is a clear win for Monsieur OUXX's background with its obvious exits and the cross-thingy in the foreground that looks like it will open one of the doors.

I didn't copy the texts though. That's bad because they were supposed to be part of the entry.

It's really hard to vote, probably the part I hate most, cause I can't vote for everyone. >:(
Anyway...

Concept: Mandle I just love the hole idea and concept, and as a concept takes the take (even if unfinished).
Artistic Execution: I agree with cat, that this one is a tie... but my vote goes to Yakatakatulla. Because it's just so beautiful to my eyes!
Playability: This one I vote for Monsieur OUXX, cause I can already imagine the interactions in the center piece and jaguar head needed to be able to open that door!

It is impossible for me to choose one and not feel
like you're committing a certain injustice.

Choosing is a real mental battle! The work is really impressive!
There is also a peculiar beauty in the process of creation ...
The steps of constructions ... overcome difficulties ...
A true exploration in the creation of each process!

First of all we must congratulate Aikex for generating this
possibility for everyone! In addition to impressive works,
is also a good performer of challenges! If there were awards
for best contest I sure would vote in this one.

Oh, man... there should be more categories
for each work carries a excellence in one or
more aspects.

Well, well, well my Michelle ...

Damn. This is hard to decide and on another day I might have gone different, but here goes.

Concept: Cassie
Artistic Expression: yakatakatulla
Playability: Monsieur OUXX

Very tough indeed to decide on just one for each category, but here goes:

Concept: Cat (It's kind of a personal choice, but I live in Japan and often go cycling around the countryside at random. I sometimes find exactly these kind of "Spirited Away"-looking places and I just have to go in and take a look every time. For this reason I'm most intrigued by what lies just a bit further up that path. Still slightly curious how the broken Torii cross-beam could have fallen all the way out of that slot. But I digress...)

Artistic Expression: yakatakatulla (For me, this is the most beautiful of a beautiful bunch of backgrounds. It's also a great study on how to get the warm-light/cold-light lighting done just perfectly. Something I'm starting to work on learning myself and I will be referring back to this picture many times I'm sure.)

Playability: Monsieur OUXX (Mr. OUXX obviously has the upper-hand in designing a highly-playable lost-city background as he has been doing it for years now. At risk of ending up drowned in my own toilet, I suspect that this background is also a spoiler for one of the Seven Lost Cities Of Gold, and was thus designed with an eye towards its playability in a game which already exists. Nothing wrong with that of course. It just offers some insight on why this one was the obvious choice for me.I also wanted to tie it with yakatakatulla but didn't want to cause headaches for the host ;) )

Well done to everyone! Another great fun competition so thanks again to our host.

Also, despite not making the time limit, working on my own background kicked my ass into gear on my own project and as the concept for the background took shape it also helped to partially rewrite my game into a more workable structure (I hope)...

Good luck to all! And, in any case, now I will have two hats to wear so YAY!!!

What a flight.^^
Don't fly if snow is falling, it really is an adventure. And not much of fun, we were almost 24h on the go. The luggage were not so lucky. (roll)

What did I miss? Ah voting time... don't vote for me, it is really not necessary. (laugh)
@selmiak sure that's the plan.  ....Guys, I thought I could post it in the critics lounge later than.

EDIT:
A have rearranged my homepage, so the old link is not working anymore. It's getting it's place in competitions for a while. I do not know yet, if I wanna keep an archive like that for ever. But the closed log is staying their for a while.... howlite.jimdo. com, you can't miss it, hehe.

After I had some rest, I made the final preparations to give it all its textures and details. We see us, the two AGS projects are waiting for me. ;-D

OK, here goes!

Playability -
I'm going to say Cassiebsg because there are so many doors, avenues and places to explore in the one screen. I'd be pixelhunting for a good long while to try and find that one, secret door that i could walk to!

Artistic Execution - I have to say Monsieur OUXX. I mean, come on! It's soooooo pretty and i MUST HAVE IT!!what? erm... yes, ahem, i'm sorry, what? It's a beautiful testament to all the years training and all the days spent painstakingly putting it together.

Concept - Mandle - the thought of something rising out of the sea to be played but always with that feeling that it may descend at any time... yeah, i like that, so i do!

Everyone's put so much work in on this and it's been great to watch and take part in. The losses of data,, the races against time and the final-hour stay of execution to get the work done... The whole thing's been like a story in and of itself =) Thanks so much to aikex222 for creating a wonderful competition! :-D

Oh,must not forget to vote! This has been a real pleasure to follow and I just wish I could have participated. This is hard. So much talent!

playability
I think this has to be monsieur ouxx.  There's some great and interesting stuff going on in this image. Some tough puzzles forming in my head.

artistic execution
Definitely yakatakatulla. That bg is to my eyes what syrup and butter is to pancakes. I would play the s**t out of that game!

concept
This is yakatakatulla for me to. The combination of warm and cold and something hidden in the snow does a lot for me. Although I really liked mandles aswell!

Thanks for at great competion!

aikex Blitz has evoked wonderful backgrounds.

Concept: Monsieur OUXX
Combining Mayan (Jaguar, stone disc) and Roman (aquaeduct, buildings) architectural elements is difficult, and he mastered it! An unknown culture seems fully believable in this panorama, conceived by a (French) grandmaster.

Artistic Execution: cat
I adore her rural Japanese forest, with the bright green-yellowish colors at the left, the old but intriguing torii to follow the path into the darker, mysterious right in bluish olive-green. Absolutely fabulous for an adventure playable by kids, and an artistic advance compared to the lovable Sheep Quest.

Playability: I<3Pindorama!
Regarding playability I vote for him, because his funny chicken scene with a little retro look is easy to adapt for the player: A low horizon, bold color fields for the palm and cave opening, and a nicely hidden huntsman behind coppice.
