Title: Quest for Glory 2 questions
Post by: mkennedy on Fri 08/03/2019 06:24:07
If I haggle with a merchant and then come back later with a higher communication skill will I be able to renegotiate the lowest price or is forever fixed once they make their final offer?

I fear that it is forever fixed. Is this the AGDI remake or the original? I always found it was better to Save Game before a haggle, then see what you can do. It also depends on your preferences, like do you use both interfaces for input? If text parser is there you can get a Saurus for 10 gold, by entering "bargain" a few times. I hope that helps!

This is the VGA remake with combination option chosen. That trick with the saurus discount is pretty nifty, unfortunately I paid the full 50 dinar.

EDIT:
A new question, if you perform any of Dinarzad's robbery quests does it automatically disqualify you from becoming a paladin at the end?

Also if you beat Uhura in combat too many times will she be too exhausted to train you any further that day? Usually when she runs to low on stamina I yield to her so she doesn't get too worn out and only defeat her once in the morning and again at evening.

Regarding paladinhood, the first robbery is due to be the silversmith. If you enter that house, kiss goodbye to paladinhood. Regarding Uhura, you can beat her up as many times as you want. I guess you're playing a hybrid character (which I did) so use your lockpicking skills on any door (even if barred) near the Katta's Tail inn because it increases agility and a few other things, then have 30 minutes room rest to increase stamina.

What I've been doing for the lockpicking is the classic trick
Spoiler
use pick on self to pick nose.

It can also help with my vitality to!

EDIT:
A new question, is there anywhere that you can rest that will fully restore magic and health?
Spoiler
In QFG1 you were able to do that at Erana's Peace.

Is there any tricks to crossing the tightrope? Agility is maxed out at 200.

Don't forget to pick up a pair of X-Ray glasses for that surprise easter egg in Raseir.  ;)

I don' t think that the Oasis restores all, only a night "sleep until morning" at the Inn, and I think that doesn't restore all magic. If you return to the inn and share tea with the Kattas you will get the whole story about QFG1 eventually. Defeating Aziza or Keepum will restore all magic points in their games. Tricks to the tightrope? Keep going forward, and watch your dude. When he falls left, a couple of taps right, then forwards again, and vice-versa, but it's TAPS! Don't lean on the button! As an aside, did you ask Sharma about the moneychanger? Have you read the graffitti? There are many games within this game! Have fun 'cause this is a beauty! Forget about the X-ray glasses if you want paladinhood, or save before you use them and then don't use them.

Haha oh really? I didn't know that.

Trial by Fire is by far my favourite text adventure game of all time. It had so many side stories and interesting narratives that hung from the main plot. Plus the player had such freedom, which was sort of rare(ish) in games of that time. For example, other Sierra titles of the era like Space Quest 3 had you really stuck if you couldn't figure out how to get the junk spaceship repaired (which I never did until I wrote to the hint line; just months and months of walking around the dump with nothing to do). Trial by Fire was just this open world of exploring and character building. Brings back good memories!

Complete paladin spoiler:
Spoiler

You must not have done any of certain dishonorable actions:

Killing Khaveen when he's unarmed.
Taking money from Omar's purse before returning the purse.
Having to be reminded (by Uhura) to return Rakeesh's sword. (You must
return it voluntarily.)
Entering the Metal Worker's House in Shapeir or Khaveen's house in Raseir.
Trying to kill a helpless opponent in your EOF initiation.
Use the X-Ray Glasses where they're supposed to be used.

You should:
Return Omar's lost purse (found in the fountain plaza) on Day 7.
Return Rakeesh's sword without being asked.
Be polite to Aziza and impress her with your manners.
Refuse to kill Walid at the EOF Initiation.
Give money to the beggar more than once.
Once you disarm Khaveen, "Give Him Another Chance".
Use Calm spell on Khaveen.
Do not disturb/kill the Griffin.

Some new questions,  is there any way to learn the English translations of the Arabic street names if you've already been to the money changer, but haven't asked Shameen or Shema about her first?
Also does the  reversal spell work against ghouls and can the Djinn wish be used to raise an ability or skill  over 200?

Great questions!

No, you have to ask Shameen about the moneychanger immediately to get the english street translations. No, reversal does not work against ghouls, and yes you can wish for above 200 points. Great game isn't it?

Will having zap cast on my blade anger Uhura when I train with her or cost me honor?

No, she will call off the match - BTW I may have given you a bum steer about reversal vs. Ghouls. From memory I think it does affect them, I guess I'll have to replay it to be sure.

Thanks for that info, now I will make sure only to cast zap at night and make sue to get in a real fight so it won't still be on my blade when I challenge Uhura.

How do I go about challenging Aziza to a magic game? When asking her about it she just says that Keapon likes them and I should talk to him about it. I already graduated from WIT and beat Keapon at his game once, Is there something else that I am missing?

Aziza will only fight if you are a wizard - i.e. passed W.I.T and started the game as a magic user. Magic ability alone doesn't count, so you're stuck with Keapon.

That explains why my fighter couldn't  challenge her.
