Title: MAGS January "Misfits" (Closed)
Post by: Stupot on Fri 03/01/2020 00:26:21
The winner of this month's contest was Slasher for Fritz, the Cat.
https://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/site/games/game/2403

Theme: Misfit
Set by Fernewelten

Make a game in which a misfit plays an important role. This can be the protagonist but needn't be. It could be anyone or anything:

Come up with ideas what a “misfit” means to you

You may use existing artwork to make your game.

Happy authoring!

I don't recognize the third image, why that warrior is a misfit?

Maybe because he is larger than everyone else.

IDK who he is exactly, could be Goliath from bibleic story, or someone similar.

I'm pretty sure it's a picture of Goliath, by artist Arthur Rackham.

Hope we get more entries this month  (nod)

My entry is well on its way.

Fritz is a cat that wants to play with the other cats but they say he is too fat to be in their gang and that he is a misfit.

Feeling like a misfit he is determined to lose weight and be able to get through his cat-flap into the garden with the other cats!

Help Fritz loose weight.

Can Fritz become a non-misfit?

There is a moral to the story.....

Fritz the cat is basically done and just needs a tweak or two or three  (laugh)

It's a simple tale of trying to become accepted by a gang of cats who tell you that you are a misfit...

If anyone is free to help make backgrounds better (2) I would love to hear from you ;)

I would love to hear other people's ideas for this topic...

Do you have something to say or show for your entry?

Wait... Fritz the Cat? Slasher is making a game based on an X-Rated movie? lol

I haven't put any thought into this, especially since I've started a non-AGS game. But if no one else has ideas this week, I may try to come up with something.

After a crazy 2019, I'm trying to get back into games. I have an idea I like, but it may not fit the 'Misfit' theme as well as Slashers.
I've always wanted to do a hitman/heist type game. Hitmen are misfits, right?

In a world of angels, a demon is a misfit... but in a world of demons, an angel is a misfit.  ;)
So it all depends on the setting you placed your misfit. It's up to you make sure he 'misfits' in his or hers surrounding.

A misfit is a person who is not easily accepted by other people, often because their behavior is very different from that of everyone else.

Example: I have been made to feel a social and psychological misfit for not wanting children.

There of course could be many other reasons why they are labelled as a misfit.

A hit man does not conform to the normal so he could be classed as a social misfit.

There is a moral to this story of conforming issues that is reflected the world over.

Uses the Bass Template.

It looks like this theme did give me, finally, an idea for a game, that I think is worth making, last night, in a dream, which I "played" for about 2 hours and couldn't escape from even including a 3AM piss-break in between.

Unfortunately, I am now too invested in making the game that I will not even be attempting to make it for this MAGS. Perhaps a brief demo is possible, but unlikely.

I'm literally not doing anything.  :-[
Really need to get my hands dirty and do a new MAGS... maybe the next one.  :)

Good luck to all who are trying to finish their entry on time.  (nod)

I'm considering throwing together a last minute game. If I can come up with an initial idea...

Okay. I have an idea, which I can do with mostly pre-made assets. Now to see where it takes me...

I feel the same, but it'll be interesting to see what VampireWombat makes!

Don't get your hopes up too high.
All I can say for sure is it will be different from previous projects where I tried to do too much in too little time. I'm putting in no research and basically letting the assets guide me.

Oh, it's nothing that bad. But it's enough to make me unable to finish a game by the deadline.

Well, it looks like just the one entry this month. Hopefully that means everyone was too busy playing the games for MAGGIES and AGS Awards.  (nod)

Thanks to Slasher for your winning game, Fritz the Cat.

Shame no one else submitted. My minor emergency was cleared up about an hour and a half after the deadline...

Congrats Slasher for completing your game.

Winning by default is not as sweet as wining against others..

We need to keep MAG alive... even if we just do a 1 room game but a game done well  (nod)

Ve va la mags  (laugh)

Yeah, it’s always a shame when we only have one game. Still, it’s better than no games.

Once the Awards season is over, let’s try and push for another super bumper MAGS. Get all the IRC and Discord crowd involved and team up.
