How do the AGS Awards work?
(This is information mostly for new members, same procedure as every year)
Every year, the AGS community embarks on a quest to find the best games made in the last year. All games are eligible, that were added to the AGS Database (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/site/games/allgames/) in the year 2020. There is a For Your Consideration thread (https://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=58713.0) where authors can promote their games and players get a good overview what might be worth playing.
The awards are a two-step process: First there is a nomination phase where all community members can nominate the eligible games in several categories (it will be the same categories as last year (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/wiki/AGS_Awards_2019)). The top five games of each category make it to the voting (as long as they've received at least five nominations). Again, all members of the community can vote on their favourite games.
The final result is then announced in a live ceremony that can be joined either with a special client or any regular irc client.
Nominations will start soon - how are you progressing with playing the games?Working my way through the backlog as quickly as I can.
I nominated, but I should tell you that the code didn't allow me to just nominate a few games in the "game and character" category... Apparently one had to fill every option there - which I am sure wasn't the original intention :=
Same problem here. It don't work even for the games with the character name in the title.

Just like last year, I have created a Google sheet with all the titles eligible for this year's awards, the links and some basic data.Thank you very much, Kastchey! It's always very useful. :)
EDIT: This year I've decided to soldier through and try all of them. It already took me 2 hours to try the first 3 ones :-D 8-0 :=That's what I call dedication - great effort! It is very appreciated :)
I will deliberately break the mold and suggest some characters for your nomination pleasure. I was a bit taken aback when Cat wrote in the other thread that there were few characters nominated in the Best Character category, when I feel that this year have been very rich when it comes to great characters. The problem is, that there are so many characters! There are plenty of nominations for various characters, but to be an eligible nominee, a single character has to have at least 5 votes. Btw, you can nominate multiple characters from the same game, if you want.
I was confused by the "best character" category because the survey's label says "best character art" so I thought it was only about the drawings, not the character's overall charisma/lines/vibe :/
EDIT: Dang! There was actually BOTH! I mixed the two categories while taking my notes in preparation of my votes, now I have to think about it again :-D :~(

I prefer not to give away too much detail about the votes. One reason is that people might be disappointed if their game didn't get any votes, the other being that I assume some of the games that just got one vote got it from the author.
I will tell you a few stats with the results tomorrow, but not a complete list of games that got any votes.
I decided to pimp up my game with some solid voice acting. I've now got about half the AGS community on board!
"Best programming", heh, glad nobody saw the actual code ;)
I nominated you for that because I saw a few interesting things, like the zoom out, or the shading of the character fading nicely when he goes up and down the elevator (it might just be a semi-transparent black overlay, but nevermind, the illusion worked).
"Best programming", heh, glad nobody saw the actual code ;).
p.s. If my game gets nominated for an award (I don't even have to win! I'm incredibly easy to please!) I'll make an "AGS Awards" version with even more puzzles and jokes. And you got three nominations! ;)
Congrats to all the nominees! I'll definitely have to check out some of the titles I missed. You're right! After the awards are over, win or lose, I'll make the AGS Awards Edition available to the world. I'd release it earlier, but I don't want to be accused of trying to buy votes with cheesecake. :=

A quick question: It says you cannot vote for your own game. What constitutes "my own game"? Can you vote for a game if you have had a peripheral role, like betatester, translator, proofreader? Voice actor?
I guess, if you voice acted in it, might be "wrong" to vote for it in the voice acting category...
We've been throwing around 10. April as the date for the ceremony, but it's not officially set.
