Title: King's Quest IV: The Perils of Rosella Retold

Playing this lovely little remake:

I can't figure out how to climb the whale's tongue. I keep falling down after 1-2 steps, and the hotspot that works one time, doesn't work the next.

I think it is the same as in the original (at least I did the same). There is also a walkthrough with a picture. You have to start from the right place, which is a bit tricky:
