Although EldKatt won the last Tune Contest, he hasn't been around, and forgot to start the next one. So Sluggo asked me to host this one. Ok? Ok.
This week's rules:
Movie theme. Cover your favorite movie theme song in any style you want. Be creative about it. Do a mariachi version of the James Bond theme, or a heartfelt ballad based on the PumaMan theme.
May the best tune win.
Ready set go!!!
can I make an mp3 of it?
Yes, yes, any format's ok. MP3, MIDI, OGG, WAV, whatever.
i'm totally in to this one!!! ;D
Sounds fun, Trapezoid. You can count me in.
Maybe I'll do a cover of the CJ song. :) Or maybe not.
My entry will most likely be in midi format.
Don't forgot about this, dudesies! We don't want a repeat of the last tune contest.
Remember that The CJ Song to Lose Yourself will fit. Lose yourself is the theme to 8 Mile :P
Yeah, although I was hoping for more score themes, like the Star Wars theme, etc, but other types of themes will do.
I was actually started on some remake of a theme made by hans zimmer... is that ok?
Sure. If it's obscure, be sure to tell me the original song when you're all done, so I can listen to it and compare with yours.
Ok... I've decided to enter a Tune Contest for the first time...
File url: http://www.unosar.com/T2.mp3 (http://www.unosar.com/T2.mp3)
It's an MP3 file covering our beloved Arnold-Themesong from T2. On piano. Hope it's ok. :)
Hobbes: Wow, the first 10 seconds sound great. After that I think it is to roller coastery. Loud and soft, fast and slow...
The problem is that the first 10 seconds is just the usual improv I usually play... after that I try to cover a soundtrack.
*grins* But, thank you anyway.
Excellent job...
Thanks. :)
Now, if ever you need a piano player for your wedding... you know where to find me. ;)
May as well have some competiton, otherwise it's just no fun, is it?
I present Titanic as it was always meant to be: Bad techno! (http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/REMIX0.MID)
[edit]Updated the link to the proper tempo'd version
LOL!!!
You should try and get Celine to sing along to this. ;)
Fun!
Have you ever noticed that in the original version, Celine actually sings
"I believe that the hotdogs go on"
not "the heart does go on". Go on, listen!

It's Indiana Jazz! Raiders of the lost groove!
I was gonna do an mp3 thing but I couldn't figure out how to record with my crappy soundcard and screwed up computer, so hope the instruments sound good on your computer!
I can't download it.... it times out.
Hahaha, wonder if Indy would dance to this? :)
But seriously: It captures that "jazz" feeling very well. Excellent submission!

Back to the future :P
Here's mine. Dig that Starwars funk!

Can't get that either ???
Okay, this may have something to do with me turning off 'always ask before downloading' for MIDIs... how can I turn that back on?
Try right-clicking on the link and pressing 'save target as'. Does that work?
Yeah. Although I really don't want to have to do that every time. On topic, I can only pick out one bit of your tune that is recognisably starwars- and that's the string section (where you've used a choir). Have I missed something.?
Umm... yeah. That's weird, because I tried the song out on the Soundblaster Audigy soundcard, which has a pretty standard midi bank, and it sounded fine.
I'm afraid it sounds nothing like it on mine.... Hmm. I'll make a recording and send it to you. PM your email and you can listen for yourself.
Flippy: I'm not sure if this is where you turn the midi thing back on or not, but it probably is. If you're using Internet Explorer, go to tools-internet options. Click on the security tab and then the "custom level" button. It might be in that list of stuff. If you're using Netscape, I think it's under tools- edit preferences, but I'm not sure if it has the same tabs and stuff. Hope this works!
And Geoffkhan's midi sounded fine on my computer also. There is the Star Wars melody (the main trumpet theme) in a steel drum track, but if your soundcard changed the track to some weird instrument you probably wouldn't hear it since it's kind of quiet and really staccato.
Everyone's submission is really great so far!
Ah yes, I have it now. I put the drums to 100, changed steel drums to 110 and set it to trumpet. I can hear it now.
And I'm using AOL, much to my disgust. But I'll try it in IE.
Set it to trumpet? Ummm, can you just turn the steel drum volume up, because that's how I meant it to be.
The main theme is supposed to be a little on the quiet side, but still recognizable.
I hear it.
I, EldKatt, am nearly back from the hole into which I have crept and unfortunately been sitting unable to start up a new contest. But it's not too unfortunate, because this is one fine idea, Trap... couldn't have done it better myself. ;) Says 19 - 26, but is there any tiny little chance I might be given a moment to participate myself? I have a terrific idea, you see. :P
I'm hurrying, promise!
Heh, I forgot it was over. Ok, the contest is over as soon as EldKatt gets his submission in, unless he disappears again.
you're too kind, trap. :)
'Tis done. And it sucks, really, but that's kind of the point. :P

This is "If I were a Rich Man" from the musical "Fiddler on the Roof", in the style of a 4-channel soundchip...and I'm perfectly aware of the fact that it's not very authentic. Yeah.
Great job, everybody.
And the winner iiiiiiiiis.....
Spoiler
Geoffkhan!
congratulation!!!!!!!!11111
Now go and start the next one.
Woohoo!
So looks like I get to start the next contest. How does that work, are there already set dates for it?
No, just set the end date a week from today, (or whenever you start the contest).
Gotcha. I have some good ideas for the rules (don't worry, they'll be good and fun). I'll start the new contest thread shortly.
Whee. Congrats, Geoffkhan!
Looking forward to the next one. :P
