previous BG Blitz! Big / Small        next BG Blitz! PYROTEK

There are way too little interesting things happening in telephone booths in adventure games,
so for this background Blitz you should go out make something interesting happen in an adventuregame background that has a phonebooth in it

Maybe the phonebooth is the main attraction of the background or it is blended into the scenery.
Will you show us the insides of a telephonebooth as a GUI with lots of clickable buttons and things?
Maybe there is something interesting happening inside the phonebooth or something is happening to the booth?
Is it in a crowded city or in a remote place in the country side? Next to a rundown building, a prison or is it even in the future?
You show us where you receive the best call in an adventure game.

Use as many colors as you like, draw or pixel in any style you like,
the only restriction is that the background has to be AGS compatible
(with a normal aspect ratio...)

Voting will happen in 3 categories once time is up.
The categories are: Concept, Artistic Execution, Playability

And here are the Trophies:
every participant can get the blue phonebooth!
Enter now!

(This trophy is absolutely NOT for participants that
don't want to receive any votes! >:( :P)

General Discussion / is gamemaker any good?
« on: 20 Sep 2015, 12:33 »
it costs $150 normally and you can get it for $6+ in the weekly humble bundle atm. I'm considering getting that. Is learning scripting in it easy? is it even better than AGS? 8-0

besides that this makes me feel old, Ron Gilbert wrote up some interesting things about Monkey Island and production and testing at Lucas Arts back in the days:

There is a very interesting youtube series about the 12 Principles of Animation as described by Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston in their book "The Illusion of Life".

General Discussion / art is how we decorate rooms

art is how we decorate rooms
music is how we decorate time

I found this quote on the internet some time ago, attributeted to i forgot, but it seems so powerful, it came back to me and it made me wonder, what are games?
decorating bordeom? decorating your instinct to explore?

Like more crazy graphics and an even weirder story spanning more times?

Or be Tim Schafer in a MMORPGRLS and create more realities?

Welcome to the new Coloring Ball.

The theme this time is Methods of Transportation. Anything goes, a train, a car, a bus, a spaceship, a snowboard, no matter what, at least it has to be able to transport people. Or just goods. You don't even have to add passengers, but of course this is a nice extra touch.

And here is the form:

What you can do:
Color the dark outline.
Rotate and also mirror the shape.
You can use all the color you like.

What you can't do:
You can't change the shape.
You can't distort the shape.
You can't make the shape bigger.

Happy painting. And don't hurt your head trying to figure out how to cram some vehicle into the form  :-D

Please submit your painting until the 25th of February 2015.

Move your vehicle (and your ass) to earn one of these unvaluable shiny bling bling rim trophys to get rolling even more!

A TRUE STORY IN A BAR TABLE

Spoiler: ShowHide
- A trip? What do you mean?

- Are you gonna travel or what?

- I know... you gonna to Machu Pichu!

- Chapada Diamantina!

- Arembepe!

- No my friends...another place... look!

* Since my daughter was born I relearned to marvel with the simple and beautiful things. I could go again to a infinitude of emotions and feelings that so long ago I had forgotten. In the real episode was a jet plane... those who leave a trail of "smoke"...you know...

When my little girl was 3 years old she was so excited to see them... she told me... with a big smile... "Look daddy...! Is the Chihiro's dragon!"... and wherever we were she always called me to see them flying and we did "Byeeeee" with our hands... "byeeeee"... as I did when I was a kid ...

From these moments  I created this habit... every time i see a  plane across the sky I stop everything that I'm doing and look at the top in silence with a big smile... like a passenger... losting my mind in the infinity blue... oh man...in this times some people look at me with a strange face (lol)...  but i never care... I'm flying and I will never lose this heaven again...

A true story. A tale of pure drama. I was made aware of the fifty-five-words story competition just 4 minutes before midnight. Time for me to read the rules, it was already three to midnight. Was I going to make it? The clock was ticking. Counting the words... Only a few seconds left. Midnight. Ther--

The plate explodes against the wall behind me and I let out an agonized scream. Another hisses past my flinching shoulder. She grabs a kitchen knife and as she raises her arm to throw it, the door behind her swings open knocking the knife out of her hand and into the skull of our son.

”Take you back? After what you said, you expect me to believe that you suddenly care about me again?”
”My sweetheart, you’re overreacting, I’ve always loved you! You must’ve misheard!”
”I know what I heard.”
”But, honey, I just said…”
”Yes? What did you say?”
”I just said… ’frankly, dear, I’d want me some ham!’”

„Deer!“ she screamed and grabbed the wheel. She made the car pass by the deer faster than he ever could have reacted.

Then he lost control over the car, slipped off the road and crashed into a tree. Three passengers painfully died in the resulting fire. Safety belts are hard to open when you’re injured.

VIPER IN THE GRASS

“So I say, Whatever!  And I put on her pants instead!”
The company roared with laughter as Reggie shook his hips sassily and made his imitation of a feminine gait around the table.  He sat down to back-slapping and another Coors Light.
His wife sipped her dry martini, and plotted.

"How're things with your girlfriend?"
Esteban swallowed and ran his fingers through his hair. He tried to sip some water but his hands were shaking and it spilled.
"What?" I pressed.
His face darkened. His eyes darted from the surface of the table, to the wall behind me.
"Esteban?"
Finally he croaked "She's my sister."

Beryl looked at her husband and sighed.  It was their 60th wedding anniversary on Sunday, but he wouldn’t know it – or who she was.  Hell, he wouldn’t even know himself – apart from as a mischievous schoolboy!  That’s what dementia had done to him.  To Beryl… she was no longer his wife, she was his carer.

The last edition of the 55 word story competition is over way too long,
so fear not creative writers of the few words,
Andail, the host of the other competitions
generously allowed me to host this edition, so, with even less words,
here is the Drama edition of the 55 word story competition

The rules are simple:

You have until the 8th of February to PM me your story.
Just imagine friday as the deadline for the 55 words you want to write,
if you don't make it till sunday night there will be no extension.

Every story must be exactly 55 words.
If you want a title, it must be included in the word count.

This edition of the competition is all about the drama.
people talk about their weird and interesting problems.
Someone reaches a dramatic (turning) point.
What's your 55 word drama.

I'll just copy + paste your spelling errors and
creative formatting into the voting topic,
so have it all set.

Don't post your entry into the topic,
all entries and voting and results are
anonymous from the competition side.

 :) :( :) :( :) :( :) :( :) :( :) :( :) :( :) :( :) :(

After the deadline, I will publish all stories anonymously and the community will vote for the top 3 candidates.
Once we start voting, you may discuss the entries in the thread, but not reveal any identities.

For some entertaining 55 word stories, you can find the stories from the previous rounds here:

pretty please?! ;-D
someone creative here might even come up with a cool icon for something that is not visible 8-)

32
Since multiple platform support is in alpha already I guess it's about time to start adding slots for more links than just windows+mirror when adding a game.

And a windows version should be necessary for the game to be added to the DB, even if the editor is run under linux only and the game is compiled under linux and the author is a linux nerd and windows hater and wants to distribute only a linux version to convert everyone to a linux user :P 8-) :-D

33
I'm currently (trying to) implementing a cyrillic translation for eternal chrysalis. I have the cyrillic font running but on the @OVERHOTSPOT@ label the outline still only shows ? ? ? ? ? ?
How can I disable the outline on a label?

first one with auto outline, 2nd pic without auto outline. So this seems like a second, additional outline.

34
Spacestation Interior

Will your future spacestation be designed by apple and have clean surfaces, straight lines and shiny and well designed buttons everywhere or will it be the steampunky linux opposite with a diesel motor that somehow dropped out of burning man.
Will you show us the bridge with all the controls for the station and a panorama view on the planet the station is orbiting, or will you show us the crowded canteen with the delicous nutrientmush, or do you want to show a biohabitat for oxygen production with all the science happening there, the dirty engine room where people are still sweating in space, the crowded and chaotic cargo bay?

The entry has to usable in AGS. And it has to be a spacestation... and not a moon!
Deadline is October the 17 2014.

don't fear, trophys might appear exactly here, maybe they are even in the form of an ear...
actually no, I just wrote if for the rhyme (laugh)
Now get busy, get creative, can't wait to see what you come up with.

35
This Competition is about drawing a coverartwork for a game in about 3 weeks. And to make it fun, draw a coverart piece for one of the misheard gametitles.

Bonuspoints if you emulate the font of the original game title.

It doesn't have to be AGS compatible as this is no gamebackground, but make it DVD cover compatible and fitting for the misheard title, not the original title.
There is nothing stopping you from adding your own misheard title(s) to the thread.

In the end you can grab one of these shiny trophies

The Rumpus Room / Oh, the irony
« on: 19 Aug 2014, 18:40 »
short rules:
1 poster starts a sentence like (in an Alanis morissette way of 'irony' that is rather a bad thing in itself)
Mr. Mango forgot where he put his glasses...

the next poster continues the sentence with some actual irony
he needs them to read the fine prints on his alzheimer medication.

then he posts another sentence that is morissetty for others to continue.

Have fun, be spot on and/or funny. Or write whatever you want, rumpus room!
Expand any sentence in the thread if you have another good irony extension.

Let's start this with:

The musician wanted to get more beer for all, but the fridge was empty...

37
They bought the rights for technobabylon and want to hammer on it until it fits into the dig canon!
dr. regis used trance to teleport himself and is now wearing an orange dress and is stranded on some wicked planet where he has to milk tortoisese in a 20 minute minigame consisting of insane mousewiggeling (hi tabata) to activate some clever ai robots that then steal his mind and identity and beat him up because he's in the wrong game.

Adventure Related Talk & Chat / Blade Engine
« on: 12 Aug 2014, 19:15 »
Take a look at this:

d6_dw

This looks very interesting and convenient (as long as you know what you are doing).
I guess even AGS can get some inspiration from this, maybe we can convince him to code some stuff for ags (if he doesn't want to wake up next to his favourite horse's head...)

There is also some code availabe, anyone care to compile and share?
