This is a song I wrote for my wife. There's some romantic lyrics, too, but you don't get to see them (unless you have Noteworthy Composer, too and get the original NWC file :P )

I'm pleased with the melody, but I'm not sure what more to do on the backing.

I guess what to add depends on what kind of arrangementstyle you re looking for. Rock ballad, Celine Dione, Musical, Frank Sinatra style etc.

Archangel (aka SoupDragon)

As long as you promise you're going to play that on the piano, and not sing over a MIDI file, then it's fine :P

I did find myself predicting some of the chords though; they're a bit cliché for my taste. But then, perhaps that's what you're going for.

Andail

I agree with Archangel...this is somewhat corny, to be honest
With lyrics and a better arrangement I'm sure it would sound nicer...let's just say midi doesn't make a good job on reducing the corniness of songs :)

It sounds nice, SSH. It's has a good feel to it. I would, however, like to hear it without the airy voice effect, or maybe just less of it. Don't let it mirror the whole melody. Violins(...strings) may be more soothing with the piano.

The lead-in gave me a smile.  :)

It's a good job.

It would be nice to start out simple, then add some more texture (violins playing counter-melody for example) on the second verse.. But if you're playing this on the piano for your wife (which seems to be the popular recomendation here  :P), I think the backing you have works really well.

If I were you, I wouldn't have the piano mirror the melody; it goes of overdoes it.
I don't think the chords are too much of a problem.  Most songs (especially pop songs) don't have particularly original chord progressions; it's what goes on top of them that makes songs different and interesting.  I think yours sounds nice for what you're going for.
Also, are you going to indeed play this on the piano (which I would suggest)?  If so, how are you going to utilize the rest of the backing track?  Are you just going to have it ready so that it plays alongside you?  If you do that, you could add some strings.  Nothing says romance like strings!

EDIT: Hmm...how are you going to play the piano part with one person?  You seem to have it playing three hands: one that mirrors the vocal melody, one that plays block chords, and one that plays arpeggios and things, and the latter two are both in the bass clef.
Also, I assume you'll end it more suitably :)

I made a MIDI file with your stuff plus a string arrangement (two violins+cello).  I hope that's all right.  If not, let me know and I'll delete this post.  It's not too original or anything; I'm still trying to learn MIDI so I had enough trouble with that :)  I also took out the piano playing the vocal melody (but I didn't change anything you wrote).
Anyway, hope that gives you some ideas or something, or you can use it if you want, or you can tell me to leave your music alone :)

If you tell me where the MIDI is, I'll let you know!  ;)

I uploaded it to 2dadventure.com and of course didn't bother to actually say so ::)

So, the tune is now in the final version of my game. Thanks for everyone's C&C, especially remixor who's version has been included (with a little modification to fix the truncation that was in my original MIDI).
