My Google and Yahoo searches have turned up nothing for what I'm looking for...

I'm looking for a downloading tool that will keep a record of the position a download is in when I log off the internet, and when I log back on, the download will pick up right where it left off...

I had a pop-up blocker that I heard about on Tech TV that had one of these on it... but it wasn't blocking any pop-ups, so I deleted it... and now I can't even remember what it was called...

Anyway, can anyone tell me about any tools like this (that are worth checking out)?

Are you serious? :P Any web savvy person will tell you to look at "Download Accelerator", and go from there. Look for download managers, or download accelerators, or something to that regard. I use DAP (Download Accelerator Plus) and it works fine for me. There is also "Go!Zilla" and "FileZilla" or something like that.

Hey, my bad bro... :-\  I'm not extremely web or computer savvy...

The reason I asked is because I'm having dial-up problems while trying to download the demo for BTS. ;)

I use Download Accelerator Plus (DAP).

FileZilla? I have a program called FileZilla, but it's an FTP program I use to upload things to my site.

I used to use Download Accelerator plus. I didn't like it because it had ads that slowed things down, and I'm one of those people who don't like buying programs like that when for free I could get -- Star Downloader!

Yes, folks, Star Downloader is my pick of the bunch. It has a lot more scheduling options, too. I've never encountered any problems with it. I've even turned off the modem while it was downloading, or had the computer crash, and it picked up right were it left off with no problems.

I use getright:

http://www.getright.com/

I used to use dap and it was good also...

Mr Jake

DAP is good, but it appears to hog ram if you download too much at a time.

Filezilla is good, but its an FTP program :D

TerranRich

Heh, I was joking around Jekyll :P  And yeah, I believe it's Go!Zilla, I remember FileZilla is the FTP program. Duh. :P

I use GetRight at the moment. Although there was a time I also used Download Accelerator...

They're both cool, the first one is shareware, with nag windows. The other  (basically) shows you ads while you're downloading stuff.

One thing to keep in mind is that some spyware removal programs consier DAP and Go!Zilla spyware. I'd stick to Getright just in case.

I haven't mucked about with it yet but there's also FreshDownload @ http://www.freshdevices.com It's free, has no spyware, and.. it's free.

I'm just wondering if these are for dial-up connections only?

I got DSL last Friday and the download speeds are pretty quick, but will any of these programs make it faster?  Right now i'm downloading at about 90kbs, so will any of those programs make my download even quicker?  I know that my connection is fast enough, but i want faster. I want to push the limits of my internet connection.

ScottDoom

You should get 300kb/sec with DSL, as with cable. With DAP, I get 350kb/sec, but without it I get the same... Sometimes when sites go slow, I can use DAP to make it go faster though. So no, it isn't only for dial-up connections.

Domino

here are my speed test numbers. Are these normal?

720.7 Kbits/sec

90.1 Kbytes/sec

It all depends on where the downloads coming from really. I have dsl and it's right around 90 most of the time, except on some slower servers I guess....

I just use getright to save my position if I quit really...

auhsor

I use getright. I used to crack it, but the latest versions have some database thingy that doesn't let you do it. Well, i couldn't be bothered doing that again, so i just leave it as the shareware version.
