hi there,
I've been looking for a adventure game that would have multiple way to solve a puzzle.
I mean, just like Deus Ex, if for example you need to go through a door but it is locked, then you can:
either destroy the door (basic/fighting way), either find the key /code (smart way), either find the guy that can open the door (smarter way), either go in front of the door, dressed like the pizza delivering man (funny/lol way)

Did anyone already do this kind of game with AGS?
is anyone interested in doing this?

sorry to say but seing as this is a question not a game idea, it cannot be critised. I think it should be moved to the adventure related chat forum.

to your question, as far as i know no one's done this.

There are a bunch of alternatives in Fate of Atlantis...
eg, to get into the theatre at the start, you can talk your way in, brawl your way in, or sneak your way in.
It worked pretty well.

I don't see why this shouldn't be in critic's lounge - it's an idea for a game that can be criticized.
Still waiting for Purity of the Surf II

actually, I've played both maniac mansion and fate of atlantis, and I didn't really get the fact that some action could be done in multiple way.

I had to use the "solution" found on internet to finish it...
unfortunately, most of the adventure game I play (I mean old school A.G like the one made with AGS) are too hard, and needs a walkthrough to finish it. most of them have weird solutions.

I think that a good idea to increase gameplay in adventure game would be to give the character the oportunity to solve one problem in a radical way, such as exploding the door that is locked. of course, it would be much more intersting to use a smart way, but, in the end, the player don't get stuck in a situation stupidly.

Also, in some sense, you can treat the QFG series of having this design, as you may need to solve puzzles in different ways if you choose different jobs.

It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It's the size of the fight in the dog.

The thing is. Fate of Atlantis actually has very few alternative solutions. It IS multi-linear in that you can choose one of three routes (team, fists, wits), but once you've chose there is only one way to go through that route. The first part of the game can be solved in several ways, and Sophia will actually suggest that you take the path that matches your solution of the first couple of puzzles.

The Last Crusade on the other hand was a true masterpiece of alternate solutions and whole scenes that could be avoided with a bit of thinking (getting Hitler to sign the pass was my favorite, because it actually requires you to do the seemingly wrong thing and give the colonel the REAL grail diary). And Zak McKracken was great in the respect too. Maniac Mansion was more open than FOA, but the selection of your team members limited the options a bit. Not as much as choosing a path in FOA though.

Every good game should have multiple puzzle solutions. As long as they would work in real life, they should work in the game. That's why I love the Hitman games as well as Deus Ex, because you're only limited by the environment.
