SEE POST AT END OF PAGE FOR WALK CYCLE
------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm looking for some C&C on this character (Kyojo):

It's based on this character (not by me), the original Kyojo:

He couldn't move around very well like that, you see.
aka Nur-ab-sal

"Fixed is not unbroken."

Moox

the chairs a little big and try adding a nose and a mouth

spoofer4ever

In the second one his legs should  be sorta draged. To me it looks like he's crawling. no offence of coarce

but then it would look less like kyojo

that's what the original Kyojo looks like, he didn't make it, somebody else did, which is why he said he based on it him

Yeah, I made the original graphic, and I suck as an artist. :) And as the creator of Kyoto, only the most famous and well known character in any AGS game ever, I have to say, I am diggin' the wheelchair. A lot.
"So I've proved my point a thousand fold," snorts Davis. "Ho ho."

stu

looks good, but that wheelchair is too big for him..

Redwall

I always thought of Kyojo as a malformed midget (being a failed cloning experiment, after all), so the wheelchair is a little small for him - it's on scale with the RON characters.

Anyone have any suggestions on animating the wheels?
aka Nur-ab-sal

"Fixed is not unbroken."

ravenfusion

It would've been easier if the wheels were on seperate layers... If they were, it would be much easier to animate. The arm movement wouldn't be hard either. Experiment with it.

Redwall

They are on seperate layers...

My problem is that a round object rotating looks basically the same the whole time.
aka Nur-ab-sal

"Fixed is not unbroken."

ravenfusion

well, the bars would rotate too wouldn't they? Or have you just got the outer wheel on the layer?

Redwall

Yes, the bars rotate, but then it looks like that's it rotating without the tire moving.

I suppose I'll just fiddle with it until it looks decent.

You could add a patch to the tyre, or maybe some dirt or dots that would indicate the maker's name.

ravenfusion

Maybe you could add a 1 to 2 ratio darker pixels on the tires so they are like a checkers board. They would probably fix it, I don't know.

Anarcho

in terms of composition, you shouldn't put the far arm rest right under his head, because it looks like he's got a long tongue or something projecting out of his neck.  I would say that you should just make him a little taller/bigger, so that you wouldn't have this problem.  Also, the wheel looks like you're staring straight at it, while the rest of the chair looks like you're looking at it diagonally or down at it.  Does that make sense?  it's hard to explain without using hand motions.  :)

Hope this helps, but otherwise or even in general, I think it looks cool.  And he doesn't need a nose or mouth, if that's what  you're going for.  Looks mysterious.

looks good! i love the level of details on the chair.

as for the animation, perhaps some motion blur on the wheels?

I finally got around to working on this again...

EDIT: Hmm, the darkned spoke doesn't show up very well with a white background, and it's too fast... hmm.
EDIT 2: Fixed.
EDIT: 3: hmm, the darkned spoke still isn't very visible...

Haddas

You forgot to animate his other hand, other than that, I see nothing wrong

Redwall

...the other hand doesn't show up.

Or, I messed with it and couldn't get it to look right due to the screwed up prespective this character uses.

Great animation! My only question is: why is he giving speed so frenetically? Either he would continously give speed at a smooth pace, or give speed, roll, give speed again. I think the rolling part should be longer... Do I make sense?

Ben

The wheels don't really look like they're moving.. I think it's because the spokes just stay in one place. The darkened spoke doesn't give a realistic effect of movement. It just looks like the border on a marquee sign or something.
