QuoteThat is such a vague statement

This is kind of random but... I read that three times over, and I kept reading it as "That is such a vaginal statement".

Too late. Too tired.

shbaz

Crap, I should edit that, because that's what I meant to say. Really.
Once I killed a man. His name was Mario, I think. His brother Luigi was upset at first, but adamant to continue on the adventure that they started together.

shbaz

I googled your nickname.

http://homepages.pathfinder.gr/bleedingchaos/midnight_scream.htm

Underground metal band and you're bragging about contracts and that your music is sold around the world? I know a dozen people in bands just as successful, albeit in different genres. Get off of your high horse.
Once I killed a man. His name was Mario, I think. His brother Luigi was upset at first, but adamant to continue on the adventure that they started together.

orionorbit

oh boy, you're searching over my past? This is very flattering.

As for the rest, Yes i used to play in that band which obviusly WAS unsigned until we signed a contract...
Then we released a cd (it was called the evil her) with a crappy label that still owes us money...

But man, that's ancient history... I've played there, then i played in some other projects and then i moved to Sweden... played in a couple of other bands... In total i have played in 10-11 projects... some got a record deal  and some not...  So what?
BTW being a musician is not only about releasing albums, i have met people with 10 times the talent that i have that never actually had a cd of theirs sold in a store.

Is that the best you can do? Dig up band that i started when i was 16? Find my current band and i'm impressed.

If I wanted to impress with discography/musical studies/complicated contracts, i could... I just didn't wanna do a "Important musician wants to do the music to your adventure game" post.

This whole thing is making me tired and bored... Put yorselves in my position, i've been in the music industry since i was 17 and I never had a single "fight" until i decided to post in this forum...

I'm not posting music online... If somebody has a project and wants some music, i will do my best and it's up to them to decide if they use it or not. But i'm NOT going to subject myself to a public "audition" in a forum.

Call it a big ego, i don't care. I'm no John Lennon, but i'm not a "begginer" in music industry, i have released a couple of CDs, played in others as session musician, produced, made commercial radio spots, played live a lot,   but i just wish you guys didn't make me to have to say all those. Can't I just send you what i have in mind and you decide if you want it or not???

I don't know if i'm a bad person or something, but i will only work under those terms.

Aaahhh  8)

I love these threads.  Interesting and off topic :)

Let's stop fighting and start uniting.  We should all forget our differences and live as a happy community.  Remember, we're all in this together.
It started out as a post for someone to help another person with a game.  A simple, yet kind gesture.  It has turned into a debate team recreational field trip!
What say we stop this barking and give OrionOrbit another chance?
I fail at art.

Squinky

Hey man.

Isn't there anything that you could post? I'm not dogging on you but it is hard to understand why you would have no samples at all....(and by saying that I am hoping you don't start the whole copyright thing again, surely you have something that is not copyrighted...)

Honestly, wouldn't it be easier just to tell us? I mean the sound bytes are right there, on your website. I'm not even trying hard, if you think that's prying into your history then you don't even want to know what is possible with more capable hands.

It's nothing like an audition, people just wanted to hear it for fun if nothing else. You didn't even mention a genre of music. Hell yeah you're good at guitar, especially if you're the lead player, but I still think you're overplaying your role in the world in previous threads.

EDIT:
Your link to "Orbital" is wrong.. it links to the song on the top.

And I only googled because I really wanted to hear your music. Is that such a crime?
Once I killed a man. His name was Mario, I think. His brother Luigi was upset at first, but adamant to continue on the adventure that they started together.

MrColossal

and the reason I'm sure a majority of people would want to hear samples [or at least a name of a band they can look up and check out your skills] is cause they're just curious. They may not want to use you for their music but they're just curious as to what you can do.

I don't think anyone is asking to be impressed and I don't think a lot of people would be [we have a lot of talent on these forums and they're treated the same as every other agser] but it would help to know who you are. A band name or anything, there are also a lot of people who like the type of music it seems you play, so you might even get a bunch more fans.

So put yourself in our position, we get a lot of people who come through here and offer help or ask for help, a random post from someone won't cut it, sorry to say. I can't just go up to people and say "trust me I can draw well, hire me." I'm going to have to show samples, I know you want to send them to specific people but maybe we've been in this community longer than you have and know how it works better, dropping your samples on the forum for all to see works better than what you want to do.

wow, you found another band... 9 more to go...

No i'm afraid it's not that easy. The sound files you got are in DEMO version. The whole website is under construction/testing. I don't want those files around in the internet they are of bad quallyty and unmastered. I have permission from the label to put some files them up just for testing.... If somebody emailed me I WOULD give them the link. But really, every time i have done an a commercial for the radio, or played session in a band, i've never heared "we wanna hear your previus work". Everybody says "do it and if we like it we buy it".

And besides, the reason that i wanna do the music of an adventure game is that i'm sick and tired of working with a band... I don't want ppl to expect band music from me.

There ARE many more projects that i have participated in, that i could post, but I can't do that... I don't wanna spend another 2 hours going into legal details and explain why, but i just can't.

Plus, I DO HAVE very strict commitments based on contracts that i have signed with record labels, managers, band members, producers... I don't know how familiar you are with the music business (or any business with strong competition whatsoever) but if you disobey your contract they WILL use it against you, i'm not saying they will sue you but you get what i mean.

You think i am hard to work with? Visit a recording studio in your area and just stay there for one hour...

Not to mention that if i post a reque song, ppl will think that i can only work with that kind of music. If i post a bad melody (it happens quite a lot, something you compose is bad and you find it cool) ppl will think i'm a bad composer, if i compose a sad song, ppl will think i'm into sad music... I'm not a graphics designer to post a picture so you can see how good i am. I'm a musician, in order to do something i have to be inspired by it...

As you see i had plenty of reasons not to post music. Legal comitments, big ego, technical reasons, inspiration reasons....

If you just accepted that i couldn't post music online, it would be so much easier than to write this whole report and explain why i can't.

Anyway, i'm off to bed.

Goodnight (day/evening, whatever)

Holy crap, how many bands do you form per month? That site mentioned being signed in early 2004. If it's not your current one, I understand your mentioning the other 9 but you said you would be impressed man.

What kind of music do you do besides metal? I'm a rock/blues/country player (old country, like eh, Johnny Cash).

I'm afraid the "do it and if we like it, we'll buy it" thing doesn't quite work here, because people get terribly offended if they put a lot of time into something and then rejected. This isn't the music business where there's lots of money involved, it's an amateur adventure game community and people take it more personally.

I've been to music studios, and in my area, they were very cordial and cool to work with. Mostly just home rigs though. The one that sticks out had this blind guy that would come in and play keyboard.. he was amazing.

"Hi, I'm new here. If anybody needs music for your game, I'll make it!"

"Oh, can we have--"

"No."

Can't you just compose a tune that you would deem Adventury? If people find what you submitted enjoyable, they will be more prone to contact you.

Now, if your under some contract that states any new music you make is theirs, I can understand your end of the situation. But if that were the case, composing music for one of us wouldn't work.

You also must realise this, this community houses several people with diverse talents. And one of the strenghts of this community, are the people willing to make game music for free. Some of them have gone through college and earned a degree in music. Some of us are not amateurs in the field of music. All of us musicians, though, when offering to compose adventure tunes, have given the community some sort of sample.

That said, I myself, am an amatuer in music. Though, I am fond in it, and posses the ability to hold my own.

Just remember, no one here is trying to insult you. If we're sarcastic, it was in a playful way. We're just trying to help you out. We know how the community works. I, wish you the best of luck in finding someone who wants your music, but I don't forsee anyone serious asking for you to compose something for them when they have so much to choose from, and know what other options sound like.

What I'd suggest you do, if you're really not set on giving out a sample, is this:

Usually when people are making a game, they will make their own thread about requiring music for the game, or will mention it in the production thread of their game. It would be better for you to seek them out. Right now you have it set up where YOU have to like the game to work on it. You've said you don't want to submit to a public audition, well, truth be told. No one wants to submit their work to you, where there's a chance you might reject them. It would just be easier for you to search the production forum, find a game you're interested in, and contact the author.

If you'd like, we have a Tune competition ever week, that you're more than willing to enter. I do hope that we get to hear something from you. Goodluck.

I thought long and hard about it, and, due to time constraints and issues in my personal life, I regret to inform you that I must inform you that at this time I cannot undertake the responsibilities and pressure that I would be forced to undertake if I undertook this job of which you are offering me.

:o this was almost immpossible for me to understand, hehe,, well,, if you say no, ill take your no for a no and ask someone else. I actually got one offer, though its maybe not the style iam looking for..

LordHart

Okay, a few things I don't understand are:

- You're a world famous recording star, yet you are begging for work on some pissy little web forum... dude, come on...
- You don't wanna post samples of your work because it is copyrighted... however you are the original artist, therefore it is okay to do... yet you don't.
- You have a contract, but you are trying to get work to do for free... thats breach of contract... you should be sued (whats the label you are signed to? please tell me ;))...
- You are lame...

BTW... you don't happen to be named Phil? ::)

While I do sincerely regret my decision not to partake in the undertaking of this opportunity, it is with regret that I must regretfully inform you, with a great deal of malice, that, regretfully, I cannot undertake take advantage of this opportunity as it stands in the near future, due to the fact that I cannot undertake such a project at this time. It is with regret that I must tell you this, and also a good deal of malevolence. I hope you understand.

I think I kinda understand his situation a little more now.. still not totally (the part where he can do free music for a game that will be on the web, yet not post freely available music on the web) but all of these are easy questions.

1. AGS is not a pissy little web forum, and he isn't begging, he's being selective
2. The work that you do under a label is copyrighted by the label, and the original artist doesn't actually own it (This is why I went to college instead of trying to get into the music business.. frustrating)
3. Usually the label owns the band, not the individuals.. that's how people are in multiple bands and have careers as solo artists on the side.

Lets leave this thread to the people who actually want to get help from him.
