...and Here: http://www.anime.com.au/Katt/misc/porttown.txt

are two pieces of music I've created for my RPG.

-PLEASE RENAME THEM TO MP3- (I can't upload mp3s or zipped mp3s to my server)

I'm just after a few opinions on whether these are satisfactory really. I'm NOT a musically minded person, I couldn't tell you which note was A and which note was G. I'm not expected to create masterpieces so... just keep that in mind ^_^ I created these with Sound Club, which I now think is amazing and I love it.

BerserkerTails

Okay, Kinoko. First of all, they both sound very SNES-ish, which I know is the style you were going for.

The first one (Ice Cave) I like alot. It reminded me automatically of "Lunar: The Silver Star", which is my favorite RPG of all time. I felt like any second the screen was going to flash, and a battle would start. Very good dungeon music!

The port town, however, I didn't like as much. With most RPGs, town music is always very upbeat with very minamilistic instrumentation. While the track does remind me of a port, it would be annoying (In my opinion) going through an entire town with this music playing. I think what it needs, is a little less chord building, and a more steady drum track. The first part seems fine, then the "drums" kick in, which is also good, but are quickly lost in a large, three instrumented chord structure.

All in all, a great start. With a bit of work, you could have some pretty good SNES RPG style tracks!
I make music.

I liked them both.

While I'm not able to talk about them like BerserkerTails did (I am FAR from a musician) I can give you the non-music-man opinions!

The Ice Cave was quite good!  It set a mood pretty well ... the only thing I might suggest would be to add a slight 'echo' effect to it.  You'd really feel like you were in an enclosed area (a cave) then.  The music feels 'cold' to me, so works well as in an ice cave!

The Port Town music was a little overwhelming at first, but then settled into a much more soothing sound as it progressed (after about 22 seconds).  I found my self not liking the high pitched stuff (could just be me!)  It felt, to me, like there was too much going on.  (which, if it's a busy port town, might lend itself nicely)

Just my thoughts!  I hope you find them helpful!

Awesome kinoko. I really like the sounds of these. I look forward to your rpg. Any chance of a screen? The music for mine is all done by Bjorn Lynne.

Thanks guys. Well, I feel pretty good about the ice cave music ^_^ I changed the main "pipey" instrument in the port town music (at the start) to a milder instrument and it does sound much better now. The town will be busy and that's the image I was going for so... well, I'll see how it goes once it's playable and I can really get a feel for how it works. I've done a few more songs now and I think they're coming out okay. As much as I'd like opinions on them, I think I'll leave the rest to the imagination until the game comes out :P

Thanks again!

LT- Will be posting a "Games in Production" post about this shortly... once I get a title screen finalised, I guess.
