I wish to suggest something for the Bug and Suggestions board andhope a moderator approves it so I can.

In AGS a automatic fight and Stat editor would be great, such as the ones in the QFG games. A tab labbeled Stats possible leading to a list where you can Add/Remove certain Stats which are then accesable in-game through a GUI buttom. Then in rooms the option to decrease stat x by 2 or increase stat y by 3, etc, etc.

An automatic fight system would also be good (also like in the QFG) where the programmer can adda fight background, set the enemies HP and Skill (the player characters HP and Skill being stats, see above) and then the player can click certain strike, parry, dodge, etc buttons in game.

If any moderator thinks this would make a valid contribution to AGS and also that anyone would be willing to program this then please aprove it.

Thanks for reading.

Mr Jake

In the long run AGS stands for Adventure Game Studio and is for Adventure Games, of which fighting systems are NOT common, as it is it is possible to program a fighting system - and in basic I, and Im sure most other people would prefer that Chris (the only one whom works on AGAS) spent more time working out bugs and adding more adventure genre related features

Scummbuddy

people can, and i believe are, work on making a plug in for AGS, which would make a tab for rpg stats.
- Oh great, I'm stuck in colonial times, tentacles are taking over the world, and now the toilets backing up.
- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.

This is not a core feature for AGS; however, it'd be perfectly possible for someone to make a template/plugin to help out.

The thing is, battle systems vary so widely it's very difficult to provide a generic implementation.

pie20spike

This is good news that such plugins are being made but I'm still going to ask for a moderator to approve this as a core featurejust in case. As for the generic battle stuff, one similar to the QFG games would be a good start.

Mr Jake

The head, lead, big cheese, the cheif, Jesus Chris (etc. etc. etc.) just said it wouldnt become a core feature

Hey kid, Pumaman is the ONLY ags maker, moderaters are just here to make sure people like you and me follow rules. READ THE RPG STICKY

Sounds like you think AGS is some sort of open source project designed by committee.

It isn't.

Pumaman

Although, maybe it should be. That way, we could have meetings all day long and never actually get anything done. Sounds good to me  :=

I guess I'll never be able to make my game then, as I'm no good at scripting. In regards to AGS being a adventure-games program only, I ask you, what type of games were the QFG ones, and didn't they have stats?

Also, I don't think AGS is and open-source comitee based project but there is now a AGS Bug and Suggestion Tracker which I thought anyone could subm,it to as long as they got a moderators approval (thats how it looks on the page anyway).

Sorry to have botherd Chris, I know hes real busy,

That's a rather defeatist attitude ... if you start out by scripting a simple game, you'll get used to how the script system works, and then before you know it you'll be able to script a battle system.

Providing a 'battle system on a plate' is really not viable, because of all the different options and different ways people would want it to work.

The Bug & Suggestion Tracker is for tracking suggestions that have been accepted for addition to AGS in the future.
