I need help converting my RL&BAT theme tune from .MOD to .MIDI so my housemate can have it as his polyphonic ring tone... PLEASE can anyone help!

I have the .MOD file and will send it to anyone who knows how to do this!!!

Modplug Tracker can output a midi from a  mod, and there is an XM2MID app, but they don't usually work very well, i'd be willing to convert it for you though

Am e-mailing you the file! Thankyou!!!!

okay, got it, i've started converting it already, i should have it done in the next few days (WARNING: Boring Technical Stuff Ahead) would have been quicker but certain channels in the mod are using multiple samples, some of which are pre-recorded chords, so i'm going to have to completely re-edit the mod and get all the seperate samples on to their own seperate channel then re-convert the mod and redo what i've already done and then merge channels containing similar samples, which is mostly the piano bit so you don't end up with a midi file with lots of different channels... (End Of Boring Technical Stuff).
btw, do you have any idea of the musical limits of the phone or know what version number it is? also, if it's a more modern phone, you might be able to get away with converting the mod to WAV/MP3 and get a ringtone that sounds exactly like the original MOD...

The phone is a "T610" aparently. I've asked about MP3 or WAV format sound for it, but Tom said he really wants a MIDI! I don't know if this is just a WANT or a need, but I guess he knows his phone!

I'm sorry to hear about the complicated MOD stuff! I didn't make it you see, so I didn't realise it was going to be such a bitch to fiddle!

If you like, I could reward you by posting you a copy of my un-released (because it was quite big) Adventure Game when you've done! You'd have to trust me with an address though, so it's up to you. Maybe you'd be just happy with my thanks as reward enough?

okay, i thought i'd post a little preview of what i've done so far...

http://www.btinternet.com/~boyd1981/rlbat.mid

i'm now doing the conversion by hand by looking at the original mod rather than editing the converted midi and will probably have it done tomorrow, i'm actually rather enjoying converting it :)

let me know what you think of the samples used (i'm not sure what the midi instruments on the phone are like, but i'm guessing it'll be similar to an SB16 as most of the phones i've heard do), also i had to change the drumbeat slightly

EDIT - i decided not to go to bed and get it finished, so that link now leads to the finished version  :D

I just heard this ON tom's phone, and it is THE coolest ring tone in the universe!! I've NEVER been so impressed by a ring tone in my LIFE.

Thomas is equally impressed and was pretty much agog at how cool it is!

He now tell me he will probably keep his horrid new phone instead of going back to his nice "Nokia 8310" SIMPLY because of the RL&BAT theme tune's presence. He will keep his nasty phone JUST for this amazingly cool ring tone midi!

I will also be doing my best to find other members of the polyphonic community and getting them to have this as their ring tone as well...

Could this be the OFFICIAL AGS polyphonic ringtone? Wouldn't that be SO COOL?!?!?!

BOYD1981

glad you both like  :D

i tried it out on my phone too (Sagem my-G5), it sounds a bit odd because i have a very limited set of sounds, but it still sounds cool  :)

Great job, BOYD, it's awesome. You've just given me the idea of putting a bunch of AGS game themes in MIDI format to my phone ;D

I made a polyphonic ringtone of a Highwaygal's ex-band's song for my friend. It sounds neat on the phone, though some of the notes are not played, probably because of phone's limitations. Converting adventure game tunes to ringtones is a cool idea though, and I have also made some more, like Rode Quest and Perils of Poom tunes. :) Anyone who wants to try... let me know and I'll upload them, if it's okay with m0ds, Rodekill and M.

I don't have a mobile of my own because I feel I'd rather have my privacy, and yet I DO like the idea of having the Richard Longhurst theme song (which I didn't write) converted into a midi (by someone else) and then endorsed as the official AGS ring tone (by CJ)...

I could even try to swing it by saying it's my birthday soon... But it's still nearly a month away...

TerranRich

Petteri, could you upload them? I'd love to have them on my phone. :)

Okay, here they are:

Clickety click!

I'd appreciate it if you could tell me how they work on the phone, ie. do you hear all the notes etc. If something sounds wrong/doesn't sound good I could try to fix them a bit. I couldn't test them by myself because my phone can't play polyphonic ringtones.

My ring tone is the Square theme, I have all the Poom tunes on my phone as ring tones too... They sound NEAT!

Petteri, go ahead!
