Terrible and sad news, very sad. :( Home Truths AND The John Peel show were two of my favourite radio shows. He will be missed, as will his soothing radio voice. :(

I had never heard of him, but I did a google, and he sounded like a really cool guy. Did alot for the music industry in his time on the radio.

stuh505

everybody googles, it's not just for geeks
if your friends are talking about some stuff that you don't know
just smile and say you do
you've got google...you know what to do

Andail

I would never sink so low as to use Google.

I prefer asking you guys instead.
So, who's this guy, what's he done, why's he dead?

Been a DJ at Radio 1 for nearly 40 years, discovered bands like the Undertones, The Smiths, Pulp, White Stripes, and helped the career of many other bands such as Pink Floyd...

+ he had a radio 4 program called home truthes which combined jolly eccentric folk with folk who had amazingly miserable stories in a way that only worked because of JP's amazing voice...

He was a person who demonstrated amazing humility in the face of national idolisation. A massive loss the UK.

I second Mysterybowler' sentiments.

Funny how if a newbie asks, he's told to Google him and expected to do some research as if writing a paper, but when an elder asks, they're given short but informative summaries.

Also, 'tis a shame, his passing. He sounded like a very important and influential man.
Status: Trying to come up with some ideas...

Is this John Peel the same that makes people buy CD's just because they have "Peel Sessions" on them?  if so, then Audiophiles everywhere (including me) are weeping.

No more Peel Sessions.... God help music everywhere....

It is allways sad seeing that a person who some AGSers admire passes away. Cheer up guys.

(Never knew who was John Peel, though...)
Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!
