Hey everyone, this is my first post in the critics lounge.

I've just started designing my new game and made a quick draft of the main characters' outline.

EDIT: (pic resized to 300%)

Before I get to color it, I wanna make sure the proportions are right.
The waistline is that low intentionally, and the walk-cycle will hopefully make the baggy way of dressing obvious.

What do you think?

It's hard to tell with just the outline. It looks fine like that but there's just onething I don't get. Why is the outline so thick on the left side of the head and right side of the pants. ( shure the pants are baggy but the outline should still stay the same as anywhere else) Is it becouse of the resizing or something?

Don't mind the lines' thickness, it is a very rough sketch, I won't keep that outline.

I just saw that the side view's butt bulge is to low, I'm going to fix that soon.

EDIT:

(WIP)

Here Jimmy goes...suggestions?

strazer

His arms are way too long, at least it looks that way.
You could raise the sweater only on the sides in order to put the pockets higher.
Good job!

Edit: Oh, and the shoes seem to be bigger in the side view. I'd say make them bigger in the front view too.

Thanks Strazer, that's exactly the feedback I wanted!

I altered him accordingly and he looks way better now:

EDIT: Noticed the poor guy had no eyebrows & changed the pic

strazer

Indeed. Again, good work!

Some more suggestions (side view):
- right foot should be a little more horizontal like the other foot
- smaller chest/wider belly would look more relaxed

Btw, you don't need to resize the image in your paint program to show it zoomed here.
Use the width and height attributes:

Code: ags

Yeah ... if you could post the original image (resized with code) it would make paint-overs easier too!

I think the sideburns need a little work ... they bump right up against the eyes which looks a little wierd.Ã,  Maybe move the ears and sideburns out 1 pixel.Ã,  That might be just what's needed!Ã,  (in my opinion).

Maybe shorten the torso just a little more as well ... the arms still look a little long to me.Ã,  Well, in comparison with the legs.Ã,  Maybe making the legs longer might help too.Ã,  Not sure.

Good work though ... it's some pretty good pixeling.

I pixeled both views from top to bottom, and while I was drawing the pants, I did already think about how to draw the walk-cycle so the torso and head ended up facing fully to the right...

Here is the side view as I originally had it in mind:

-fixed chest/belly (thanks Strazer)
-fixed hood, torso, right arm & head

Darth: I, too, had thought about moving the ears and sideburns out and gave it a try. It looks better, but I'm not sure if I'll keep it, because the head became quite round in the process.

-fixed leg length (thanks Darth)

Keep it! Just remove the outermost left and right pixels of his beard and you're done. Looks awesome!

Erwin_Br

I think his legs could be 2 or 3 pixels taller. If you look at the skeleton picture, you'll see how small the human torso actually is, compared to our legs.

Khris

Mind that he wears baggy style, so the waistline of the clothes is around half-butt level :)

-fixed front view beard (thanks Strazer)
-fixed side view ear
-anti-aliased sweater & pants

Thanks guys for the great help!

Babar

considering that the jacket would be partially overlapping the pants, I think you should make the jacket a pixel or two thicker in the side view
