I don't think a little desert now and then is so bad. It's when it becomes part of your daily routine that it becomes a problem. If you need to have desert everyday, it's naturally going to be unhealthy, but every once in a while is alright. Maybe once a week or once a month...I don't usually eat desert at all, or if I do I go for sugar free pudding.

Cutting out sodas can be a significant factor in helping you lose weight. Eating more vegetable/fruits in place of other foods is always good. And snacking  isn't bad as long as it's a healthy snack, like an apple. A simple excersize like walking for a bit doesn't hurt, either.

I'm no great expert, and don't pretend to be, I think most of the advice is just common sense.
