OK friends!!

THIS IS THE END, I think it has been one of the project faster than always.
I close this project not for lawyers reasons but because my idea:
"make a video game which everybody could add a little piece"
it hasn't been received, except from one or maybe two persons, which I make my thankses.

This is not one melancholic closing, but only a good bye... calm I will not make an other video game on GF, but I don't abandon my idea.
I already have in mind something for being able to re-propose it.

The job that I have made (very little) will be used as ulterior demo for Character3D plugin.

for Thomas VoàŸ:
if you want to make the German translation, in the rar yuo'll find the translation source file "ITAtoXXX.txt" that unfortunately is in Italian. Thanks for the offered aid. I will hold you for the future.

in the demo there's also a partial English translation, if someone wants to finish it or to improve it (my English is ....Ã,  Ã, :P) I'll be very glad.

Very interesting. Some suggestions though (I take it you can't do anything in the simple demo yet except to take the manual and leave the room and walk into the floor):

- Make the first room brighter. I couldn't really make out some things.
- The character movement was still a bit strange, but maybe that will look better with proper walking animations. Right now he didn't seem to turn properly yet and he became faster and faster the FURTHER he was away from the camera, which looks really strange as it should be the other way around!
- Of course, most of us would need a translation to play the game, too.

Nice gui, but is there anyway you can access your inventory? I'll definately keep an eye on this, keep it up. I wish I could help, but I'm afraid I don't have the time nor the proper skills...

EDIT: Oh, and take two ingame screenshots (showing both rooms preferably) and post them here!

That's how bright it is in the original game, you don't really need to interact with anything in the darker areas.

As for comments on the project... well GF is my favorite adventure game, but I don't think remakes are ever worth the time spent on them.Ã,  If you want to do something GF related perhaps you could make an original story set in the land of the dead.Ã,  It's all up to you though, good luck with whatever you decide, this is a huge undertaking.

DanClarke

When i saw the Title of this thread i thought 'uh oh...', but this is actually a pretty great idea if all it's to be is a remake of GF. My only concern is things like the real time cut scenes and character models being right. But seeing as people like myself can't play GF (mac user) anymore, it'd be great to have something like this.

Besh

thanks for all the encouragement that give to me!!!  :'(

WOW   :o. I've never thought of that. A Grim Fadango fan remake. It looks great so far!

Are you going to recreate the original game or add some new stuff eg. some puzzles and stuff?

Tom S. Fox

Wow, that is... awesome!
The Character3D plugin alone rulez, but a remake of Grim Fandango?
Respect!

BTW: I have the german version of GF and play it even in my dreams.
I could do a translation!

Good luck!

The idea is to recreate the original game, but there are some part in which new cool stuff can be added.
eg. when Manny freeze the evil-castor is a part in which I'd like to add a new stuff

it would be so fun to make a game in the Land of the Dead, but with some other character (just because, let's face it, making antoher adventure with Manny would never fit in with GF story), maybe about that clown that makes baloon animals  ;D
I love the all around noir/casablanca/fantasy athmosphere mixed with that aztec/art deco locations - might even make a cool 2d ags adventure if done correctly

demo looks cool, but I simply wouldn't want to make the same adventure as was made already (and better, profesionally), I have trouble re-playing adventures as it is (cause I know the story and solutions to puzzles)
it would be good practice though, no doubt about that and you've done a really nice job
I don't want the world, I just want your half

is this legal since practically it is the exact same game but with a different interface?
i used to be indeceisive but now im not so sure!

Hmm, that's what I'm thinking. Be careful, ye be on shaky ground legally here.

Especially since LucasArts is known for being very, VERY gung-ho about their copyrights :p
Still here.

sergiocornaga

The only way I can see them overlooking this is if it was set up so that you had to have a copy of Grim Fandango to run it.

This is a cool idea Besh!!

Since people have mentioned the possibility of different games in the land of the dead, I always thought it would be cool to do a game based around salvador's underground resistance group, with salvador or possibly the secratary as the lead character (maybee both)

Also, as people have mentioned the 'legaility' issue of your game: As long as your game is free then there cant be any legal issues so dont worry about that :)Ã,  Ã, (after all it's a homage to the original, and your not trying to 'sell' there work as your own, your just adding to it, and not proffiting from it)Ã,  :)

Keep up the good work Besh, i look forward to this one :)

SuperFoop

Great idea!

Here, This might help. The script to the diologue of Grim Fandango.

yeah but youd get arrested for leaking it on the web or downloading it for free wouldnt ye

i agree with sergio's idea

TheMagician

Wow, not bad.
Just had a look at the demo and am pretty impressed.

However I'm also voting for "Another story in the Land of the Dead" instead of a remake of GF.

Did you create the Salvador character yourself or did you somehow extract it from GF?

Saberteeth

Yeah, that's what I'm wondering too. I mean, i've been looking for 3D character extracting programs everywere. How did you do it?
