Trouble loading AGS - bizarre bug?

I think this is the best place as it may or may not be a bug, but I couldn't find anything similar about it. It's really weird.

I've extracted the zip of AGS into c:\ags and runs agsedit.exe. On doing that, it loads it up, with the logo that remains in place, and then starts trying to install a bluetooth advice?? There's not actually anything you can do with it, and you are forced to close it down with task manager. When you close down the bluetooth window AGS closes with it.

It never used to do this! I've tried deleting and unzipping again, rebooting, same thing happens. It's bizarre, I don't get how the 2 are even related?

Are there any older versions around anywhere that I could try if this can't be fixed? Because when I had AGS a year ago or whatever I never had this problem. It sounds like it's something totally to do with me because I haven't seen a mention of it on here, but it's weird. Really want it fixed so I can get on with making me games! :D

Cheers in advance! :)

It was posted past 12, it's not an april fools! Lol :)

Is this a serious question then? Because if so, AGS has absolutely nothing to do with Bluetooth, I can't see any reason why that should happen.

dazmoose

Yes it's serious and really annoying, that's why I'm frustrated because I see no link between them and don't know how to sort it :(

Pumaman

How far does it get? You say you see the splash screen, do you also get the frame of the main editor window or just the splash screen on its own?

Which version of Windows are you using?

This could be the result of some funky spyware, malware or hijack. I suggest you go to Ad-Aware's website and check your computer for it.

dazmoose

I used adaware and cleared everything but still playing up. I'm using windows XP.

I took a screenie of what happens:

the "windows installer" taskbar shows up as Bluetooth device in task manager.

The splash screen refuses to go (it's not that I'm not waiting long enough) and nothing can be done with it. Also closing AGS on it's own doesn't work, you have to close the bluetooth device to shut both down.

dazmoose

Yay I've fixed it! Uninstalled the bluetooth software, and now it works. I still don't see how they have anything to do with each other but at least it's sorted! :)

Pumaman

That is very strange. The only thing I can think is that AGS is initializing some sort of Windows component which thinks it needs your Bluetooth drivers in order to run properly. Rather odd.

Sorry to post in this old thread, but since I have the same problem and can't get around it, I ask you for help.
When I fire up the Editor the Window with the Editor itself and the logo screen appears. But also the strange windows installer Window opens up and the logo never disappears. When I try to load up a game it locks the menu bar in the editor window and i cannot do anything else as shuting down the AGS with either the x or the task-manager. I can also not see what driver or component the Editor tries to load since the logo screen is right above the installer window and killing it in t-manager closes down the whole Editor again... . I know that I could use it before but have no idea what the cause maybe. I have no Bluetooth Devices or controller installed.
Any help would be appeciated

Edit:

Good God, I tried to solve this over hours already and now right after I posted, I got around it -.-

My prob was that I could not read what the windows installer was showing because of the AGS logo floating over the other window. But with a right click on the task in my bar and selecting "verschieben" (german for "move around") i could use my arrow keys to relocate it to another position. Then I finally saw what .msi the Editor searched for... the ITUNES.MSI o.0 . Strange as it is after reinstalling, it all worked as it should.

I think it's odd that the editor would need an iTunes component installed though. What version of AGS are you using and where did you download it?
