Hi, I am a scripter who has no artist for my game so I am in desperate need of help.
I have done my best to draw this character but I really need your opinions on it, cos you guys seem to know everything and I'm a rubbish artist! :D

Enough talk here's the character

The best advice I can give you is to always listen to the advice that people give you.

Evil

Well, you should mention this is just a paint-over.

You could be more consistant with the black lines. Some frames they go away around his legs, and his hat doesn't have any at all. You have some shading, but it's not contrasted enough to notice.

Indie Boy

the walkcycle template I see.
I see you nefer used black outline on the hat so why on everyhting else? I would be nice for the out lines to be a darker colour of the colour its outlining (as like the hat, although you used a lighter colour.
Also you can hardly see the nose try and use a colour that stands out more for the nose, And the eyebrows are half a pixel size same with the eye so I take it you resized the original template thats a nono in my book it makes it look bad IMO. Also a wee tip dont save as .JPG it adds other pixels that wasnt there before
I won't use this login.
Try IndieBoy instead

Thanks for your opinions guys, I've updated the walk cycle so here it is.

- Made the shading more noticeable.
- Added outlines where previously there were none.
- Tried to make the nose more noticable (It was startin' to turn a bit orange like he had fake tan or something, so I stopped)

The only reason I used JPG was because the server I used for hosting didn't accept bitmap so I used PNG this time.

Rix, I really needed to resize him because he was so small when I put him in the game.

Aside from its being a paintover of Mr Colossal's example walk cycle, is there any particular reason that the pixels are doubled all over except for the eyebrows? Which size did you want him to be?

I would personally recommend going 320x200 if you're not comfortable with your artistic skills. Fewer pixels = less hair pulling, usually.

I've updated the above image, you'll see that I have made the eyebrows bigger.

Now what I would suggest since all the lines are doubled is to do a pixel resize down 50%

Khris

There are still "little" pixels at his nose and eyes.
It's absolutely necessary that you decide which resolution to use.

If you want to show a bigger version of your picture (which is usually a good idea with lowres art), use the width and height properties of the img-tag:
Code: ags

Because of this, it's not necessary to resize the pic in a gfx prog before posting it here.

Eric's char is suitable for a lowres game (320x240), if you really want to use a higher resolution (which I would advise against), use the 740x180 pic you've posted, and use thin lines that are one pixel wide instead of two.

this is what everyone is talking about removing black outlines/double pixeling.
