Its a hp laptop. The model is : Compaq nx6110

Does anyone have any suggestions on how i could rememdy this? Any help is greatly apprieciated.

Firstly, CD drive drivers on a CD. Thats priceless.

It could be a mechanical failure of the drive, its been known to happen.
Ah! There is no emoticon for what I'm feeling!

Are you sure it can't find the drivers?  Because drivers don't diappear. Unless you deleted them. Try going to Command (cmd) move or DOS mode and running MSCDEX.exe, that command recognizes the CD drive and then you can install it. If you don't have MSCDEX.exe just get the drivers from the internet and install. Just go the cd-rom manufacturer's site or google it.
It seems more probable to me that's its a hardware problem - ie the cd-rom is just fucked up, again because drivers don't disppear. That's why I asked if you're sure about the drivers. You can check it in windows.
