Recently opened are the Gameshadow Innovation awards for this year, where you can vote on the best game, best narrative, jaw dropping demo and more! There are a couple of adventure games in there, so why not go and vote? If you don't want to vote for Psyconauts (which I'm sure Yufster will 20 times over), why not vote for FoY? :)

Or other games you enjoyed but preferably FoY.. :p

Not a criticism of FoY, but I find it very puzzling how a fan-made sequel which does its utmost to replicate the visuals, interface and gameplay style of a 14 year old game ever ended up at the "Innovation in Games" awards?

Steel Drummer

Exactly. And I also wonder how it got nominated for 'Explosive Demo' or whatever, with that crapped-up, glitchy demo.

It's nominated for "Jaw-dropping demo" and "Best narrative" not for innovation, iirc.

And Yodaman, are you serious or is that sarcasm I detect or fail to detect?

Mordalles

congrats, screen7.  ;D

best narative? have you guys secretly finished the game and let them play it and not us!   ;)

Well, the overall statement is that "These awards highlight and reward titles that push the boundaries to deliver fun innovative gameplay".
And as for the narrative award specificly: "The aim of this category is to find the most innovative and impressive script, overall storyline, in-game dialogue or script-creation system". Seeing as Killer 7, Psychonauts, Whom The Telling Changed and Facade are among the other nominees, FoY is a rather odd choice. Especially if the nomination is based on the demo, which could hardly be any more traditional.

And retro fun can still be good, new fun.

Please understand that I'm not criticizing FoY - I'm looking forward to the game and congratulate you on your nominations. I'm merely questioning the focus of these awards, which seem to be all over the place - and that's too bad since it's a great initiative. Not a single bad word about FoY, but from what I've seen so far it's not exactly pushing any boundaries. Though I'm not sure what Prey is doing in those lists either.

Exactly WHAT are these games?
I recognized only Prey, Darwinia (which absolutely sucks despite the hype) and Psychonauts. Well, and Zuma (which totally conquers Darwinia).

Others?
Among amateur games, there's lots of better stuff to choose from.
I almost feels like they randomly picked a number of games just to make a list.

Anyway, my vote goes to FOY.
I really loved the demo, though
QuoteExactly. And I also wonder how it got nominated for 'Explosive Demo' or whatever, with that crapped-up, glitchy demo.

...that's true too :)
But it's FOY! That excuses alot.

Zuma? How is that innovative? Fun, yes, but quite identical to several other Popcappies.

Even though I'm chuffed to the gills with the FoY nomination, I do agree that the list of nominated games seems very unbalanced. Full blown 100 people-team commercial titles next to one person homegrown games? Bit odd, really...

mods sleeps with the organizers  :o

m0ds

Not true! :p If anything I'm sure it's because they noticed us after seeing their product on a page next to the FoY article. Even though there are high end games in there mixed with a few indies, I'm not complaining. Would you? No.

Steel Drummer

FoY being a non high end game. :)

I don't mean to dis the developers of it, but the demo was just too glitchy. The graphics and music made me feel irie, mon. Be de rest of it? Not 'tall

This is really offtopic now, but I'd like to invite you, Steel Drummer or Yodaman, to come to our forums over at www.barnettcollege.com or post in our FoY-thread in this forum here and tell us exactly what you found "glitchy" in our demo. Because nobody said anything about the demo being this way, and we'd like to make version 1.2 of the demo and the full-game enjoyable for everyone! :)

Err, yes - that's what I said.

Dkh is right, go visit and let us know what exactly it was you found buggy - and remember also this is an English speaking forum, so stop speaking like a rasta. Cheers.

Sounds more like offensive move against amateur games.

Something like:
Let's assume that Ace Quest is commercial and costs as much as Half-Life 2.
Now someone gives you a possibilty to get one of them free. Of your free choice.
Really hard to guess what would you pick!

Same thing with putting Prey and other commercial titles into same pot with amateur games.

QuoteZuma? How is that innovative? Fun, yes, but quite identical to several other Popcappies.

I hate Zuma. My co-workers start every day by occupiyng my computer and playing Zuma.
It just expressed how dissappointed I was with Darwinia, after all those good reviews.
Hardcore waste of Source engine...
