Hello there,

I am having a problem with what appears to be a mpeg problem in King's Quest 1 & 2 VGA.  I was able to play the files in media player when I named a copy of the files with the .mpg extension.  I have completely uninstalled the programs, redownloaded and reinstalled them twice.  I am running a Windows XP x64 edition machine with 2GB of RAM and an AMD FX-55 chip.  Here is the error I am getting for them:

Quote from: Illegal exception
---------------------------
An exception 0xC0000005 occured in ACWIN.EXE at EIP = 0x044AB018 ; program pointer is +6, ACI version 2.56.631, gtags (1541,640)

AGS cannot continue, this exception was fatal. Please note down the numbers above, remember what you were doing at the time and notify CJ on the Tech forum.

I have renamed the files and the programs do note that the files are missing but work properly besides that.  I am hoping CJ or someone else can solve my dilema because I would really like to get the full experience of the games.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Hmm, strange. Has anyone else tried AGS movie playback on 64-bit Windows?

You could try running them with the latest engine, to see if that works..

Or, try the V2.62 engine first, as there're HUGE changes after that version, which makes old games quite unlikely to work properly.

That fixed it.  ;D  Thanks.

I just found this site and the game makers sites about a week ago.  You could not believe how excited I was.  I still have my older versions of these games running using DOSBox; I showed my 11 year old son the originals and the remakes, and he was amazed at the difference.  It has got him interested in playing them now.

Now that I know to do it, I will check to see if running the new build will fix a bug or problem I might get; if it doesn't work, I will check back with you.  Who knows, other problems running games with 64 bit Windows might creep up.  In any event, this solution is something to add to the knowledge base.
