Hello! I'm having a slight issue with my emails. Basically, I have an address, hello@screen7.co.uk. THat email address doesn't actually exist, by emailing that address it then gets forwarded to my hotmail account via the hosting company, 123-reg.co.uk.

It forwards it somehow using their MX server;
mx0.123-reg.co.uk

However - this seems to be either very slow or simply doesn't work at all. I'm still waiting for an email I emailed to myself a day ago, so I guess it's simply not working. Therefore, I thought maybe I could direct emails to be forwarded from the old BarnettCollege mail server, but that didn't work.

So my question is, how do I set up or get whatever it may be to get an "mx0" style thing that will work reliably? I've looked to see if Hotmail has it's own but it doesn't. Well, people say it does but none of the ones suggested in this thread work.

Can someone help me or give me some pointers? I'm expecting some very important emails in the next couple of days and stupidly I gave them my @screen7.co.uk email address which doesn't seem to be working at the moment.

The only advice my hosting company offers is this:

Quote
'MX' records - These control where your email goes. Be very careful with these, if you get this wrong you will lose email. You can't point these at just any server, you have to have agreed this with the ISP that controls them. These follow the same rules as CNAMEs regarding full qualification, and must end with a full stop if the 'domain' part is present, (e.g. mail.domain.com.).

Many thanks!

Unless you sent the email to yourself at the same time that you emailled another account you have, how do you know whether the problem is at the sending or receiving end?

Huh? Sorry dude, I don't understand what you're saying.

I'll put it like this.

Fake email address which is actually just forwarding (to speilblergjnr@hot..): Hello@screen7.co.uk

Receving email address: speilblergjnr@hotmail.com

Email address I sent an email from: m4rk_made_it@hotmail.com

The problem, I'm certain, is at the receiving end. The "screen7.co.uk" receiving end. The problem lies with "mx0.123-reg.co.uk" which is my hosts temporary and probably overwhelmed email server.

can you actually change the mail server? then point it to "screen7.co.uk".
i'll set up a mailbox for you on your domain now, remind me on msn/send me a pm on irc (just do it, even when i'm not in #ags) when you're online.

then go to http://webmail.screen7.co.uk/imp/login.php and log in, try sending mail to your other adresses. you need the password for that, which i'll set now >:)
... it's quite easy being the best.

Oooh, thanks Hajo! Well, I've done this, I think it's right! I'll PM you for passwords tomorrow, I gotta sleep now :)

Many thanks!!

Thanks for sorting this out, Hajo! Just to let you know as you don't seem to be connected to bbc irc, external emails still aren't coming through :/

EDIT - I fixed it. I did have to change the MX record to americangirlscouts afterall :)

NEW EDIT! D'oh! But it won't let me send emails :( I'll try and get in touch with you about this. The error I'm getting is;

Quote
The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was 'speilbergjnr@hotmail.com'. Subject 'test', Account: 'screen7.co.uk', Server: 'americangirlscouts.org', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1)', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 553, Error Number: 0x800CCC79
