Upon trying to acces the site

http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?category=101

(which I use rather often) I get, as I've been getting for ever since the demo was released, GetRight popping up and telling me where do I want to save the download of "atotkdemo.zip". This is the games page, it's not the "Tale of Two Kingdoms DEMO" entry, it happens every time, and the download I get isn't even a proper file - I can't open it and run whatever might be inside.

Plus, pressing "SHIFT" while it loads - a way to cancel GetRight automatically grabbing the link - makes it load normally.

So, can anyone shed any light on this? Am I the only one to who this happens? In the very least y'all must agree that while not downright bizarre, it is odd.

That page seems to load normally for me without any pop-ups or forced-downloading of files occuring. Perhaps your "GetRight" program is acting strangly with this page for some unknown reason? Maybe try un-installing and re-installing your GetRight program may correct the problem?

Myself, I perfer "Star Downloader", which in my opinion is a much better download manager/accelerator than GetRight.

Yeah, it's acting strangely on the page, and yeah, without GetRight (i.e., using SHIFT) I don't get anything out of the ordinary. And thanks for your suggestion, but I like GetRight.

Thing is, GetRight doesn't imagine things, and it keeps "capturing" a link of some sort upon entering on that page. It doesn't happen anywhere else (unless on pages that play MP3s, in which GetRight captures the MP3s, but even then it's not imagining anything - explorer had tried to open a music file, and GetRight, as I instructed it to, captured it). And what it captures is supposedly a demo of Tale of Two Kingdoms, an AGS game. Surely there's something going on, even though it's probably very minor.

Yep, everyone has their own little favorite programs they like to use. I was offering a suggestion for a different choice in case you wanted to try it.

But yeah, seems like an odd problem and most certainly has something to do with your GetRight program. It's been a long time since I used GetRight, but isn't there an option to "clear" the download list of all current files waiting to be downloaded?Ã,  That may also reset things back to proper working order. Dunno, maybe someone else more familiar with GetRight can offer better suggestions.

Umm, surely its as simple as GetRight tries to grab every link... now, every other games has downloaded OK, but this one doesn't so it keeps retrying....

It sounds like that, doesn't it? But in order for that to happen the game would have to be in my getright's "list", wouldn't it? But the list is empty, there are no unfinished downloads. The list Barbarian talked about is clear, and at any rate the pop-up window I get is not the one I get when it tries to re-download - it's the one I get when I try to *download* something that's not on its list, the one that asks me where I want to save it to.

One last thought that may work is to try clearing your MRU (Most Recently Used) list, as it may somehow be confusing your GetRight program. Then again, it may have nothing to do with your problem, but I thought it worth a try and can't hurt anything.

In XP, you would do in the following way:

Right-click Taskbar (or the "Start" button), choose Properties, choose Start Menu tab,
Click Customize, Advanced tab, and click "Clear List" button at the bottom.

I have no idea. But, consider this: getright must have a list of already-downloaded files somewhere to know which ones are new on a page. This list must be missing the ATOTK demo. The download must be completing, but badly... so its not on the list you are talking about, as it completed, but the file you get is corrupt, so it keeps retrying... as a NEW download. The question is why a completed download doesn't get added to the "already downloaded" list...

Ok, Barbarian, tried it... didn't work, but it was worth the try.

SSH, though that makes sense, it doesn't happen with any other game, and never has.

BTW, this also happens on the DEMOS page and on TotK's ENTRY page... so it's definitely related to that.

I just have one question now... could some GetRight user please try to acess the link on my first post and let me know if something like this happens? At least I'll know whether it's my GetRight acting up or some sort of, I dunno, flaw that GetRight picks upon.

PS - Hang on, how is GetRight supposed to know what files are new to a page and what aren't? I don't expect it to know, and I didn't think it could ever know. You're talking about some "automatically download what's new" feature I don't think exists. At any rate, when I try and download something *myself* GetRight *doesn't* activate, I have to Ctrl-Alt-Click to force GetRight to capture the download link... and even then the page in my Explorer window becomes a 404-ish page WHILE GetRight pops up and starts the download. What I get here is a very different behaviour - GetRight pops up when it normally, by default, wouldn't, and... well, generally it acts as though the ZIP file was set to open automatically or something, much like a music file in a website - those and "forced" downloads are the only instances in which something like this usually happens for me.

Here's your answer: the ATOTK "image" is linking directly to a zip file. Scroll down to ATOTK, right-click on the image and look at its properties. Image properties are set to http://crystalshard.net/img/atotkdemo.zip .

That's why your GetRight automatically opens the link.

Ooooooooh! Thank you very much. The mystery is solved. :)

Trovatore: No problem. :) It was your own last post about how it's acting as if the file was embedded in the page that sent me searching in the page source for the zip file... that's how I found it.

SSH: I was thinking the same thing when I posted the link to the zip! Haha.

Heheh.. so simply confounding it's funny! Ã, :P

Oh well, at least I got Rui to clear his computer of all the urls of recently visited pr0n sites with my clearing the MRU suggestion. Ã, ;) Ã, (Just poking some fun at ya Rui!)
