.rar!!!

Radiant

Well, except that WinRAR is paid software, and 7-Zip does the same and is free.

7-Zip is also rubbish, i always liked PowerArchiver until it became popular and therefore commercial software, but now i just use a completely authentic and legal version of WinRAR because it's very cheap and excellent.

It's all up to personal preference, when I tried 7-zip I'll never use bloated commercial rubbish like winrar anymore. (PowerArchiver was good, but I won't return after changing to 7-zip).

Thank you all so much for replying! I would be completely lost and stuck without you! :-*

Fleshstalker

Say, I thought WinRAR was free? I've had WinRAR for like over 3 months and my trail expired, but I can still unzip files with it. lol  ;D

dasjoe

yes, but that nag-screen reminds you it's not free.
... it's quite easy being the best.

Fleshstalker

Yeah, that nag screen. I just close it and proceed with my business. It doesn't make sense why they put it if you can still use it. Its like if someone gave you a free video game (but they call it a demo) and during gameplay a message pops up saying its not free, but you can continue playing the whole game to the end, theres no reason to buy it.

They should have just made it expire completely like some of those program trials I got with my Dell PC.  Until then I will continue to use WinRAR for free to me.

voh

It's there to remind you. That's all it is - a reminder. They don't want to limit it to 30 days, because then everybody would flock to entirely free software. There's a lot of people (of which I am one) who, even after 2 years of just clicking the nag screen away, eventually think to themselves "damn, I've been using this for 2 years now, and I'm quite content with it", and purchase it.

It works :)
Still here.

Fleshstalker

We will see how long it takes me to give in to purchase it. I probably never will though since I'm very cheap when it comes to downloads. I only like free downloads, if you catch my drift.  ;)

voh

Obviously, that's fine by them ;)

If out of every 100 users 1 decides to buy it, that's still good. And their program is still used, which gets more people in on the whole thing, and if that adds another 100 users, that's another sale ;)

It's not big money they're thinking off, just funding their development :p
Still here.

I was actually using Winace, and it was free for 30 days or something. Then I left it unregistered for another 150 something days. And then one day, just like that it stoped working! I got really pissed of becasue actually RAR compressed files with winace, do not uncompress well win WinRAR. I am dead anoyed by that, cause all the back up files I had in CDs, I had to go to a different computer, install winace and do a proper compression again. I wasted a full day (lots of GB)...

now I use 7zip all the way. I did try winrar, but somehow jus tdidn't feel right... :P
