I know that there are a lot of Tex Murphy fans here, so I was surprised to see that no one is talking about Fate By Numbers, which is the closest thing to a Tex Murphy fan game I've seen (similar style and setting, though no direct link in plot or characters). It's also, as far as I know, the first time someone has made an "amateur" FMV game.

The students who created it have this to say about Fate By Numbers:

Private eye Alice Sanger is assigned to get a briefcase, but quickly finds herself immersed in a web of corruption and shadowy motives. It becomes personal when she finds out that one of mysterious people behind the briefcase is none other than her ex-husband who was declared dead several years ago. What follows is a mysterious journey through the layers of a future metropolis with 50’s noir influences.

Fate by Numbers was made as a graduation project for Communication and Multimedia Design (Avans) in Breda, the Netherlands. Revival is the name of the fictional company behind the game, set up by four students. The game was made on a shoestring budget.

The purpose of the game was to make a FMV-game to satisfy old school adventure gamers and introduce new players to the genre. But also to see if it is now possible to make a game using technology previously only available for big budget game companies.

Fate By Numbers is available to download from http://www.fatebynumbers.com/.
The game comes in a "small" 800 MB version and a humongous 1.2 GB version.

That looks ace! Been a long time since we've seen a game like this. And made by some fellow Dutchies too. ;D Will check it out.

Oh wicked! I have under a killing moon in a big box but my pc isnt powerful enough to emulate the hardware in dosbox to get a smooth frame rate.

Also, X-files on psone was a great comedy game. Not intentionally, I suppose...

Under a Killing Moon was one of the first adventures I played on my 120mhz PC. Downloading now.
