Recommendations for upgrade from v2.71?

I'm still using an oldish version (2.71) and would like to upgrade. Version 3.x has some very nice features (the script editor looks a lot nicer) but the thread on the lastest version suggests that it is not yet stable. I could just upgrade to v2.72 (if it is available - is there a download link for it?) for safety's sake, but then of course I don't get as many of the new and improved features as I would with version 3.

So what would people recommend? I'm just wary of downloading version 3 and then having problems with upgrading existing games or losing data. I'd prefer not to wade through all 23 pages of the thread on version 3.0 before I come to a decision, so I'm hoping someone can give me an answer based on how that thread is currently panning out.

Thanks.

What are you talking about? V2.72 is the current official version, which can be downloaded from the AGS site, obviously. :P

3.0 is currently in beta stage, so of course it's not going to be stable. There's nothing wrong with upgrading to it if you want to, but you should make backup copies before you open anything in it, same as you probably should before ANY update...
If you desperately need any of the features in 3.0 (the stand out that I can see is the extender functions, other than that I think it's mosly editor changes with no great difference in what you can actually do), back everything up and upgrade. Otherwise, you might as well wait for the 3.0 final version to be released - if you've made good progress in 2.71, there's not really a lot to be gained by upgrading to 2.72 (oh, except maybe the graphics filter stuff - change log of differences from 2.71 to 2.72).

My advice would be, finish the projects you're currently working on in 2.71, but try out the beta on the side so you're ready for when you do upgrade.
I know what you're thinking ... Don't think that.

Ah, OK, thanks for that. I saw 3.71 on the download page and thought that was the version number rather than than size. Duh.
