After a few months of absence the adventure/sprite bug got me again.

This was one of the last set of characters I was working on:

I'm trying to pick up drawing characters again, and I started with a fat gentleman:

My two main questions:
- how can I make his pose more natural?
- How can I make him less similar to the orc businessman in the first picture, while still keeping the same style?

(I put the blown up sprites in the same images as the normal size, if that's a problem please let me know, then I'll post further images separately).

JimmyShelter

Bumpity.

It can't be perfect. Where are the critcs?  :o

Evil

Well, he seems much shorter than the other characters. Not sure if he's similar to the conductor (?), and he's supposed to be much shorter.

I made him slightly taller and adjusted his pose. He turned out much more-..."fabulous" than I intended. Probably just the stance...

JimmyShelter

Thanks, Evil!

He is supposed to be a bit shorter, but your length suits him better.

I was trying to make him a bit flamboyant (or fabulous) so your edit shows me in which direction I should go. Thanks!

What your image also shows is what I did wrong: before having a good outline I already started colouring and shading, which is too early in the process.

Stupot

The line represtenting the gent's jacket pocket kind of carrys on from the line representing the end of his sleeve.  It ends up looking a bit funny.  Evil's paintover corrects this, though.

Based on evils edit, I tried this approach:

I made him slightly taller, & improved his pose based on evils pose.

I used some of your lines, but didn't copy them directly but I did draw them, with your edit next to it for inspiration. That always helps with learning.

I also made him more fabulous.  ;D

Anyone got anymore suggestions before I start colouring?

Hudders

What's happened to his chin now? It seems to have disappeared into his neck, leaving only an unsightly bulge in its place.

Dualnames

What Evil's edit show's isn't only his stance which is rather fine, but the outlines.
Worked on Strangeland, Primordia, Hob's Barrow, The Cat Lady, Mage's Initiation, Until I Have You, Downfall, Hunie Pop, and every game in the Wadjet Eye Games catalogue (porting)

He has a fat double chin. :)

Hope the coloured version makes it more clear. I included all steps I took between redrawing the lines till the finished version.

First I coloured him inside the outlines, then I changed the outlines to matching darker colours. The final version has some minor pixel fixes I thought were needed.

Thanks again for the edit, evil. It was of great help & inspiration.

Evil

Looks great! The shoes look a little misplaced, and too similar to the other character. The rest matches perfectly.
