Trilby's Notes SE - Setup file with graphics driver menu?

Sorry to ask such a silly question, but I can't play either Trilby's Notes SE or 5DAS SE without the option to choose Direct 3D9. I get those god-forsaken horizontal lines all over the screen which makes reading descriptions near impossible.

Is there a recompiled version somewhere that has that option? Or is there any way I can "jury-rig" it? I just tried copying a setup from another game that has that option and renaming "notes_se" to the name of the game, but it reverts back to not having the option.

Thanks for any possible insight.

No, and no.  They were compiled most likely with AGS 2.72.  You would literally have to contact Ben Croshaw and ask him to load the game into AGS 3.x and compile it for you (and hope there aren't any significant errors).

Thanks, that's what I was dreading. I doubt he'd go through the trouble just for one person.

I doubt his majesty would reply to you..
Worked on Strangeland, Primordia, Hob's Barrow, The Cat Lady, Mage's Initiation, Until I Have You, Downfall, Hunie Pop, and every game in the Wadjet Eye Games catalogue (porting)

Here's what should work for all 2.6x & 2.7x games:

-Rename the game exe to "ac2game.dat"
-Copy acwin.exe from the AGS2.72 main folder into the game's folder
-Right-click acwin.exe and create a shortcut
-In the shortcut's properties, add " --setup" to the end of the target line (don't forget the space)
-(optional: rename the shortcut to "winsetup.lnk")

Setup: double-click the shortcut
Play: double-click acwin.exe

Edit: Windows won't let me add " --setup", that's weird, I'm sure I've done that in the past.
So it's TotalCommander to the rescue, again.
While I can't select Direct3D (the game's made with 2.62), playing it x3 and windowed does work fine.

Pumaman

That would work, except that 2.72 doesn't support Direct3D so it wouldn't help in this case.

You could try using a 3.0.x ACWIN.EXE in that manner, I can't remember if it was backwards compatible with 2.72 games or not.

Khris

I tried it with the acwin.exe from 3.0RC4; unfortunately, Trilby's Notes is a 256 colour game and thus won't work with Direct3D.

Damn the new graphics card I bought for Christmas last year to hell!
;)

Thanks, Kris and Chris, for your help.

You'd get better results if you showed up at his doorstep on fire asking him for a urine sample, but even that would be touch and go.
