I have been trying my hand at creating some landscapes, but so far I am happy with none...
I've been doing so many, I'm confused now which ones are better, which ones stink, so I am posting here some of them to get your opinion:

This one I did in Max with some input from Vulcania and other terrain plugins:

I didn't liked this at first, so I don't have the original model or texture anymore - although, right now, I think this one has more promise than some others. Also in Max with Vulcania, DeepValley and the like...

I did this one on my own, ie without plugins help, so it's a bit more original - it's incomplete as the others are, but the sky is simply wrong...

OK, this one is not a landscape, but it's a pic I feel it's coming on right, although there is still a lot of work to do - I put it here just to know if the pictures above would fit with the style of this pic.

Well, for the first, I think the hills texture looks a bit stretched.  The scene overall would be good, but perhaps a bit at a time for a screen?  Unless it's a fly-by shot.

I like the second, though it's slightly bland.  Perhaps something to offset it, like mountains/moon/trees/larger rocks in the background?

The third one shares the problem of the first, and the flat ground looks like the texture is meant to be applied to the face, but is applied in spherical or face-rectangular mode (just to the wrong face of the rectangle.  The only problem with the sky is that it's a solid fill.  If it dwindled a bit or had some logical ending...

The fourth has a nicely atmospheric feel and the lighting is perfect.  Contrasts nicely without too many dark areas.  Just enough to give shadows.  The floating hotdog is my friend.

They look beautiful! I agree with Yakspit on most of his points. First pic bottom of hill texture looks stretched vertically. You could maybe clone the texture from the top in photoshop. 2nd pic might look better in color. 3rd the hill could be much shorter or at least taper off towards the right side insted of the abrupt drop, texture in the land is a lil odd. 4th looks great!

Igor

First of all- non stink ;)

The fourth is the one i like the most- fantastic job on that one. Really atmospheric

The first three are good too, however i do feel they look too "random" (as if they would come from some landscape creator). What they are lacking is some style and originality.
I think you came close with the second one- interesting shapes and formations. The only thing that bothers me is, that separated elements of picture doesn't seem too well integrated together (rock&sky). Maybe you could solve that by adding some different textures (maybe a bit less photo-realistic, since i think that's what takes away something from first three pictures)...

Evil

Amazing! And as Yak said, the last one has perfect lighting. You cant get better then that...

wow Eduardo!!!!
these pics are really great!!!
Good work!!!
I agree with most of what the others said about the first 3 images.
The last one is the best of all of cource, and i think that if you add some more objects in the scene it whould be PERFECT!!!

thanks for the comments.

Every time I look at those landscape pics (and the others I am working on), I discover they are totally different from what I want.  THe purpose of these landscapes is to have a ROCK as the main subject...!
Right now, I am thinking the camera angles are not adequate for 3rd person view game...

I'll try to add some little rocks, some dry vegetation and the like, and review the texturing of the big rock... More probably, I'll scrp these and start working on a new one...

Edit: my big problem, right now, for the 4th pic, is the lack of an eventual new PC, since mine actual PC - it's a 20th century PC!!-  really is slow every time I try to work at it!!!
well, the feel I am trying to get for the 4th pic is really Syberia, although it was inspired by Senda comics... there is still a lot of work to do with this one, although I think I am keeping this one... I still need a lot of experimenting with this (and a lot of modelling) but I am getting more confortable with the style...
the good lighting is really due to the new photometric lights Max 5 has - they do most of the work - of getting things right - themselves
