I woke up this morning, and examined some game sprites..
Then I practiced on a new character, and I found it to be good enough to get critics on. So write whatever you think of this. Negative and positive comments.

are you using Photoshop or PSP?

anyways, yes waaay to many colours and not in the "look i'm leet and can make an image with no colours" kind of way



that's 20 colours right there! eesh! it looks like you used a brush or something cause the black outline is all blurred and it mixes with the green background.

if i trace it with a black colour and then fill it with the grey i get this:



5 colours. woop

then there's the shirt:



29 colours in there cause the shirt is filled with peach colours from the skin, no idea why.did you blur it or something?

the soda can also has an insane amount of colours in it:



11 colours in that little image right there. Why did you use so many reds?

so I just deleted all the excess colours and the shading and ended up with this:



then i chose darker colours to shade with and highlighted the hair:



you need to choose darker colours, they need to stand out against eachother better i think.

my edit is really quick and dirty but i hope it makes sense
