Does anybody else want to enter?  Should we extend the dead-line a little?

I actually think I would vote Klaus' design too ... but maybe loosen it up a little!  It's very clean, clear, and sharp.  But is it a little too ... stiff?  for AGS?  I don't get the impression it's about video games, but more like financial services?

Don't get me wrong, it looks great, but it gives me a different sort of feeling than what I would expect from AGS?

(I'm not saying that to pimp my own!!) - seriously.

Anyway ... I think CJ should, obviously, have final say so why don't we extend the deadline until he responds to this thread again?

Does that sound good to everybody?

Many thanks for you all your nice comments. Here's a bunch of replies:

... because there was too much work involved and he didn't have the time.
Well, who sais that he needs to do that work :) Isn't it the designer who should do this? I also don't think it's that much more work, because every page needs to be touched in both cases...

My vote for Klaus, if the "What is Adventure Game Studio?" was big enough to fit in without scrolling ;)
There's a solution: Change your screen resolution to a bigger size an it works :)

The selected tab (information,features...) could be higlighted in order to let the user know where he is.
Yes, that's actually something that I meant by "some enchantment still needs to be done...".

1) Instead of "Games Database," maybe have "Download Database," because then there's a spot to download Plug-ins.
Oh yes. A good point. But "Download Database" would also include the engine itself. So perhaps we find yet another expression that fits.

2) That picture of CJ along the top...

... but I'm not very happy about some of the icons...
To be true the icons and header graphics are also not that perfect for me. I wanted to do some pixeled stuff (like we know it from zoomed ags game screenshots or from some avatars) that fits the topic but I had not the time to do it. Sorry. I hope you can imagine what I am thinking of..?

(P.S.S: I don't like the bluecup shape at the toop... too convex, the real bluecup is totally cilindrical, I think...)
Eeeeh, okay. This can be changed :) Sorry for that big mistake.  :-\

I see. But I think it can be brushed up a little with what I called "enchantment" :)

i vote Darth, the blue theme needs to stay, klaus' i think is too unofficial looking, it dosn't look as true to AGS as darths ect.
EDIT: just realised you said CJ would decide

Darth Mandarb

SLaMgRInDeR - well, CJ might well say whoever gets the most votes wins!  I just thought we should wait to see, since this is after all his baby we're changing here! (and thanks ;))

Klaus - I certainly wouldn't mind a complete over-haul to modernize the site!  When I started This Thread that's what I had in mind.  Through the course of that thread I got the impression that it should just be a 'shell' rather than a remake.

Maybe I got the wrong impression though.

I'd love to see some enchantment done to your design (with the pixel stuff and games pix) because it's an awesome foundation!  I didn't mean to imply otherwise ;)

Klaus

Now I read the "original" thread too and I think you're probably right with the "shell" thingy. So for the moment I won't do any further work on this layout. As you know pixeling is time intensive and so I'll better wait until it is clear what Chris decides: If he prefers another design that keeps the current structure or if he gives a chance to my layout. Whatever - it was nice to think of another way to present the AGS site so far :)

Are you saying that 1280 1024 is not big enough? :P

Not really... I checked it with a screen resolution of 1024x768 pixels and it already fits perfect with this in a standard Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox - if the windows taskbar goes invisible.   :-\

Privateer Puddin'

Just checked in IE and its fine, Opera doesn't want to display it properly, oh well, still love you Opera  :-*

I say go for it, no sign of the return of CJ yet so

Pumaman

Thanks for the entries guys - they all look great!

Quotewell, CJ might well say whoever gets the most votes wins

Sounds like a plan to me! So loominous, if you want to submit an entry, could I ask that it's submitted by tomorrow, then we can start properly voting on which design to go through with.

Oh, and DG, Best AGS Website Ever  ;D

loominous

Em, where did my post go?

The server of this forum, was replaced for 5 hours, so any post in between, got lost! You have to post it again ;)

I ll probably make modifications/other ones until Chris judges.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

loominous

Ah, I see. I ve got some modified versions in the owen, so if we could hold until tomorrow I d appreciate it.

REPOST (summary):

loominous - I like the clean look and how it ties in with the current forums design.

The top bar could be condensed (not so tall) a little.

I would go with number 2 (the games on the right).

Good job!

Esseb

I love loominus's second entry, but I'll wait untill he posts his modified version before I vote.

It could really benefit from the bluecup somewhere though, perhaps in the banner if you ditch the games there. They're not really needed anyway since good ags games are showcased in the bar to the right.

I agree. If I first saw that design when i discovered AGS, I would leave at once, seeing it looks too pro and, as you said, stiff(Don't get me wrong, i think it's a great design, just not for AGS). I think the AGS theme should be cartoony and NO REAL PICTURES. :P

Anyway, I vote Darth.

(By the way: Isn't it soon about time we update the games on the right side of the main page?)
