I *think* the first game I played was this game in German someone made for a class or something.

Was that Alles Euro? I remember seeing some German game about the Euro on the old (OLD) ags website.. Never botherered to download that one  :P

If i remember correctly, i think it was either Rob Blanc or Larry Vales.

It was a couple of years ago when i stumbled upon the AGS website when AGS was still in its DOS days.

After seeing what was possible to do with AGS, i downloaded immediately, but yet  have worked on a game.

I did a couple of rooms as a test, but then scrapped it.  Someday i will make a game.

Rob Blanc was officially my first game, but I thought it was utter crap, so it wasn't for months later when I stumbled upon Larry Vales. It gave me that gooey warm feeling...like when I stick my hand in the microwave. So through that, I found AGS and quickly fell in love. It inspired me to make Ace Quest...which I did.

Larry Vales, along with snail quests, moose wars, and my own games, is one of the only adventure games that I have on a back-up cd. I still think that Phil Reed hasn't been equaled in the community, as far as comedy.

Edit: Note, ROb Blanc was my first official AGS game...the first every adventure game goes to mixed up mother goose.

Hehe.... The first adventure game I ever played was a text version of a Dungeons&Draons thing, I am not even sure it had a name.  It ran on an Intel MDS and an 8 inch floppy disk.  MDS was Intel's programming workstation circa late 1970's and was this huge blue box.

We had a huge sheet of paper where we mapped out the game.  It was a communal system so you couldn't really play for very long.  As soon as some one came along to do some school work you had to give it up.

Even before that I played a game on an IBM 360  called WUMPUS or WOMPUS that was also a text based game.  I actually got paid for that;  I had a little job repairing terminals for the University and we were supposed to "burn'em in" before sending them back repaired.

Oh...
If I remember correctly, the first AGS game I ever played was this 'Space Quest' that came with AGS. I don't remember many things about it (it was more than 3 years ago), but I remember that the first message said something like "Hi, this is Ken." or something like that. Then there was this vehicle where you could 'get' a laptop... can't remember many things about it, though (I didn't played it for too long cos I got fed up of getting 'stuck' against some walls). I think that was because in the AGS version it was made, instead of drawing the walkable areas you drew the 'walls' in the screen... or something like that. :-\

Anyway, after that, the game I truly played (until the end) was Rob Blanc (2, I think).

About your second question:

What 'game creation'? ;D

Yeah, I think it was about the Euro. Is there any way to get a hold of the super-old games like this one, or to see just what got released back in the days when AGS was barely more than a glint in Pumaman's eye? Any oldgeezerbie feel like jogging my memory some?

Well anyways, I've got a name to go on. I suppose I'll go a-searching through some archives.

Good grief, I have no idea what game I played first!

I played lots and LOTS of games, without knowing that they were made with AGS. I THINK it was Permanent Daylight (which I thought was super-duper-ultra-cool simply because of the snowman).

Another game I'm not sure about is 'Bert'. Was that made in AGS? It's about a guy who gets fired from his job at some TV station, and he has to break in to the building and teach his boss a lesson.

I'm pretty sure I played Bert before P.D, though I'm not sure if the former was made with AGS or not....

yep Pete, Bert - The Newsreader (by Anton Ulvfot aka Vargtass) I think he also goes by the name Machine elf, was made with AGS.

I think I played Bert the Newsreader.
It was something about 2 years ago...
I didn't read the credits firstly, so I didn't know that AGS was the engine behind that game what RULEZ!!!

It was 1 year ago, when I found this site and downloaded 5 Days a Stranger, so it was second AGS game what I played...

You know you're a newbie when....
The first AGS game I played was The Apprentice.
I'd downloaded AGS in August 2003 and was so taken with the ability to make my own games that I forgot to even think that other people had actually completed some and have them available for free download!   So it wasn't until November or so that I actually started playing AGS games.  Of course The Apprentice did nothing for my self-esteem as a game developer..... :'(
....but at least it did give me something to aspire towards.

My first AGS-game was Anton Ulvfot's (aka Vargtass aka MachineElf) SlackerQuest, and still today I think it's somehow really, really good. In a readme file (or something like that) he mentioned AGS and I was like W00T!! I downloaded ags and a billion other ags games, but no matter how much I played, none of them were as surprising experiences as the first time I played Slacker Quest. It was also my first amateur adventure game, regardless of engine.

The first AGS game I played still has a warm place in my heart.  But that's probably because Larry Vales (the adorable scoundrel with the sideburns) was the one who stole my adventure gaming virginity.
Actually, it seems like he got a lot of you.  ;)
But anyway, I think I moved on to Norman Cooks or Permanent Daylight after that.  Wow, I first played those...almost two years ago if I remember correctly.  Where did time go?
Well, wherever it went, AGS has improved and been improving since the first productions I played from it (and those were great games, mind you; I'd play them again in a heartbeat) and I've seen some equally excellent games come from the newer engines.  I'm really looking forward to seeing some of the future games.
Know what?  I think I just convinced myself to go finish building my own game.  I'll be back in a few centuries...

I'm another newcomer, I only discovered this place a little over 3 months ago. The first AGS game I played (knowing it was an AGS game) was Odysseus Kent (as soon as I saw the screenshot on the front page of this site, I -had- to have it). To this day, it's easily my favourite AGS game still and definitely inspired me to create my own game.

Admittedly, I haven't even come close to playing all the games available yet, but I do really love O.K. ^_^

Rodekill 2? I can´t remember which was, I get confused with Rodekill: A day in the life.

Well... The game I played was about a dog puking battery acid, dissolving the spaceship, and you had to avoid it...
