No joke, this is FOR THE REALS. Yes, the time has come for you to nominate your favorite AGS games for the big awards! Go here: http://www.sylpher.com/AGSAwards/ for everything you'll ever need.

Nomination voting starts today (February 20th) and ends March 6th.

If there are any questions or if you notice anything wrong with the game list, feel free to pm me. If I get a lot of the same kinds of questions, I'll put them up here with the answers for all to see.

So why are you still here? Go and vote already!

YAY! Finally :) But damn, I can't see the nominations! It says I have to be logged in :( I wonder the demo category so much.

My bad with the music award, I missed it off the nominations page. It has now been added.

You need to right-click the nominate link and choose "Open in new window", otherwise it will say you're not logged in.

Gord10

Thanks, fixed now.
So won't be there the Best Demo Award this year? :(

Nope. Listing all of the demos was a lot of work and I wanted to put more emphasis on finished games. So I replaced it with Best Hour Game. Sorry to everyone who felt that their only chance of winning an award was best demo, but that's kind of sad. You should worry about finishing your games, not about winning an award for your demo.

And I've fixed the nominations link, so it should say you're logged in. If you're still having trouble, let me know.

Great work Pesty! Yay!

When I click on the Registered Games List of 2004, I get a 404 file not found. http://www.sylpher.com/AGSAwards/reglist2004.htm

Sam.

Ah poop. I accidentily nominated a certain game that was not made this year? i assum that my voted for that game will be discounted, it will not affect any of my other votes?
Bye bye thankyou I love you.

I don't know why that is. It works fine from the link on the front page...I'll investigate further.

Zooty, don't worry, I have to sort through the nominations myself so if you want to re-nominate a game in place of that nomination, pm me.

Edit: Aah, I have discovered it. Somehow it got saved as a .html instead of an .htm Where did you get the link that leads to the .htm?

Are all the games available off the AGS website?  And can you vote for more than one?

Ghormak

QuoteAnd can you vote for more than one?

This is just the nomination process, you can vote for 10 different games (or less, if you don't want to nominate 10) in each category. After the deadline, the games with the most nomination votes end up as the five nominees in each category for the final voting, and in that final vote you'll only get to vote for one in each category.

Like I said, if you find something wrong with the list, like a game that wasn't released in 2004 on there, let me know. I went through the announcement forums, and got what I could, but there's bound to be a few mistakes, like games from 2003 in there.

Yes, it should. I knew I missed a couple non-adventure games when I sorted my list. I thought I had gotten that one, but it slipped under my radar. Sneaky boxing games.

Man, those pages are un-clear!

What's unclear about going here: http://www.sylpher.com/AGSAwards/reglist2004.html Finding the games that you want to vote for, then going here: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/awards.php?action=nominate (after you've logged into the forums) and filling in the nominations? You're only nominating the games, then the games that get nominated will be voted on in two weeks for the winners.

And yes, '7 Days a Skeptic' starts with a number, so it's under the "#- F" list.

SSH

I dunno if its possible but it would be nice if the page disabled the Enter=Submit key binding, becuase I justdid what JetXL did. Either that, or people who have submitted nominations can still submit more on categories they havent filled in....

Pumaman

Ok, I've added some javascript to the page which should in theory disable the enter key, so that you can't accidentally submit the form.

I think Leisure Suit Larry 2 Point and Click by redruM deserves a few awards, that game was very well done.

If you don't think redruM deserves a lot of recognition for his work on the remake, you're an idiot. Whether or not it was originally made by someone else, it's a great piece of work.

Aw crap. Gotta start playing...

* German, Italian, etc games -- most of them are not played by majority of voters, so there's not a fair competition

Pesty

Thanks for telling me about the non-adventure games, I'll get them moved to the right list when I get a chance.

It's not really that big of a deal if something is in the wrong category, it just helps make things easier for people to find. I mean, if they want to vote for it, they'd better know what kind of game it is.

Increator: I listed every game I found released in 2004, no matter what language it is. That's as fair as I can make it. It's not my fault games haven't been played by a majority of people, I'm just here to organize things.

I'm still very new and have played only one 2004 game. So I can nominate only one game. Can I at least nominate that one game several times a category? ;)

Well, I did release the first part of the first Melrin game (The Disciple Ordeal) back in 2003. But after the feedback I got I made a total remake of it and also extended it to the full four part game that was my intention in the first place. I also released it at the same time as the second game, which was on July 27, 2004.

Argh! How could I have missed this! Well, it's done now - I voted. Yay! And, I noticed no plugin or utility was listed... I think this year we won't have nominations for that. Pity netmonkey didn't get his Media Manager plugin done in December or earlier...

Oh, and just a quick note -

QuoteI think he should only be allowed to enter the categories he did, like programming.
I understand what you mean, and you know what? I agree with you in that most things were not mine. But I DID do more than programming, and I just wanted to point it out. I also added music and sound effects (I didn't MAKE them, but the game now has, courtsesy of me, 99% more music and sounds than it used to) plus responses to every single interaction, responses that Al Lowe didn't write - I did. Just, you know, FYI. But again, I agree to you, in general. Just saying I did a bit more than just programming.

Cudos pesty - everything looks tikkety boo.

I like the voting system - its cool - but you know what would be cool to add? Another page like the list of games except with tick boxes so everyone can tick the games that they have played.
Then there can be another award - for most and least played games by voters or something. It's pretty cool - then you can kinda gague how popular your game is even if it doesn't win an award.
The results could be in a kinda graph or something. This would probably take alot of work to do - so its just an idea and doesn't need to become a reality.

that is all . .

Yes, that program is called Pesty and A Piece of Paper.

I get the feeling many people think that I do have a program of some sort that lists all these things, but there isn't. It's all me, which is why it's taking so long. It's not an easy task and all I ask is for people to be patient. It's not a life or death situation, it's not gonna hurt being a day or two late.

MillsJROSS

The reason there isn't a program, is there are too many variable within the voting process. Because we had to type in the games, there is bound to be spelling errors. So making a program to count everything won't be accurate.

-MillsJROSS

AGA

Given there was a list of all applicable entries, the more sensible option would have been to have a checkbox system for all the voteable games in each category. It would have made the page a little larger, but collating votes at the end would have been much, much simpler. Maybe an idea for next time 'round...

Pumaman

I think the reason we decided against that last time was because there's always one or two games that get left off the list accidentally, and people wouldn't be able to nominate them if it was a fixed list.

However, don't worry -- the actual voting stage is a selection from the fixed list of nominees, so the vote counting is automatic.

edmundito

Thanks, Pesty, for taking over the Awards this year.

The trick with this technique, is you have more work in the actual set up process. I think our real problem, lies in our slack to do this until it's actually time. If someone kept updating the new games comming out consistently throughout the year, the workload would be less when it comes to nomination time.

As far as a check box technique, I agree this would be better. We could always add an other option next time, should there be any games that were missed. Of course, this is all easy for me to say, considering I'm not doing any of the work.

I actually did this as part of my Underground work until about the middle of last year, but then I got lax and forgot all about it. Then I deleted the list because I'm stupid.

One way of doing this next time around would be for CJ to add a date-added field to the AGS games database, assuming there isn't already one. Or some kind of plugin to the forums that made an addition to a list every time a new Completed Game Announcements thread was started. Both would take minimal time for a 1337 programm0r like CJ, and would make next year's Awards organiser's job a lot easier.

Ooops, I meant to do this ages ago and then totally forgot. It's now added to the game Detail pages.

Of course, you'd still need to check the forums to compile the Awards list, since not all games get added to the Games page.

So here's an update. This week has been insanely busy for me and I haven't had time to finish up the nomination tallies. This, coupled with the fact that the week after next I'll be gone from the 19th to the 26th, I'm going to announce the nominations and start the voting on Sunday, March 13th and the ceremonies will happen the day after I come back (hopefully). This gives you all two weeks to vote for the winners. I'm very sorry for the delay, midterms are a bitch.
