(heya I'm new here ^^ )

So after several attempts of making an adventure game, I finally got something worth while working for.

This game is about a city, devided in the uptown and the downtown. The uptown is rich is rich and throw their trash downtown, which explains all the craters towntown.

One uptown-ish kittylitter factory pollutes their radio-active goo deep-downtown, and that's where you come in ^^ You are a downtowner and you must try to make an impression on Poche Purr, the owner of the factory.

I won't tell too much of the story offcourse ^^'

hmmz...that's it really
ah yes, screenshots ^^

(I had to put them to a JPG-format, the original bmp-version looks better)

What a loser.

Amazing Graphics! Looks like you know what you are doing. Sounds like a movie I've seen before, I can't place it.

Anyway, Good luck on your new project. ;)

TheMagician

Wow! Sounds like an interesting story. And the graphics are beautiful!

And I must say I really like the name of your game!

Good luck with it and keep us updated! (How much content do you already have?)

fovmester

Damn! That looks gorgeous! And the style is familiar...

Have you been playing "Woodruff and the Schnibble of Azimuth" lately? ;)

ildu

Woodruff came to mind instantly to me, too. You just gotta have a intro cutscene that shows a piece of garbage being thrown and falling onto some building, leading off to a scene in the underground.

yoshiwam

wow, ildu^^ that's an amazing idea!

yes, I've indeed tried to make the background in a Woodruff ATSOA style!
It makes me happy to hear that you've noticed that! yay^^
Because it took me a long time making those backgrounds ^^' I made him with paint! *sweeps off sweatdrop*

anyway, I don't really know how long I'm going to make this game, I think I'll make it longer than I planned (so it's hard to say how much content I've got...relatively)

But I just finished another background^^ I'll just add it here (again BMP > JPG = bad)

Ozzie

I recommend you Irfan View!

With that you can convert the BMPs into JPGs without quality loss. It's also a neat picture viewer.

You craft this background only with Paint as tool? I can't imagine that! Even otherwise these backgrounds are much more than very good. I love Woodruff, I think I should play it again...
It's nice to see that not everyone orientates their design on the usual suspects like Monkey Island and King's Quest....
Robot Porno,   Uh   Uh!

Erenan

Wow. I'm impressed. I'm really looking forward to playing this once you're finished with it.

I don't understand why people use Paint for serious work. It handles colors so poorly that it's just a huge hassle while you're drawing, and then it causes problems when you're saving. At least, it has in my experience. Maybe I just don't know how to use it properly. Well, I guess if you get good results then that's all that matters.

Hehe, there's no way to convert to JPEG without any quality loss := , but IrfanView probably uses better algorithms and since you have control over the compression level, you may get a less noticiable result.

My advice is you may try converting them to PNGs (that's lossless), and only if the PNGs are still too large you should convert them to JPEGs.

yoshiwam

thank you very much Ozzie^^
my screenies look way better now! <3
lemme just add some links^^

Cilo 6
Poice Station
Mushroom Cave

aaaah can't just leave without uploading something new 'ey ^^'

hmmz I haven't made a screeny, that's why I'll upload some Concept art, jesh
First of all, Poche Purr

Bunker Boulderbash

I'm also going to add a few human like demons and Naga ^^'
Lesser Demon of Ignorance

And the Naga..I don't know wether I should make him more industrialised or more ancient like

Actually it is possible when you set the quality level on 100%. I often convert pictures in JPGs but when I have to edit them with Paint I have to convert them back and they are still exactly the same (I can tell that of course only from very small images, like a sprite, so this probably not a good proof then, but I never found any differences even after many times of converting)

I think this belief that there is no possible way to convert a bitmap into JPG without loss comes from Paint, because it doesn't get it right.

By the way, the sketches look also great!  :o

No, JPEGs in general do not support lossless save. (That's one of the improvements in JPEG2000.) On the highest quality settings, the distortions may not be visible to the human eye depending on the contents of the image. Also, it is of course possible to have specific images that do not lose information when compressed with JPEG, though you are unlikely to come across them by chance.

What a loser.

You draw your backgrounds in paint?  :o  Those are real quality backgrounds, good work!

Ozzie

Maybe Irfan View works with JPEG2000 then. Like I said I never noticed differences.
Because I didn't want to believe it what you say I just made a test. I converted a bitmap into JPEG and then back again into BMP.
I compared them with the comp command. It found 10 differences. (The picture size was 400x527x24BPP)
Made the same with PNG. The result was that they are identical.
Hm, so I think you must be right. JPG seems now pretty useless for me.

Sorry for being off-topic again.
Robot Porno,   Uh   Uh!

Snarky

JPEG is not at all useless. On typical photos it can achieve excellent compression (much better than PNG or other lossless compression methods) with distortion that is hardly noticeable to the human eye. This allows people to trade pornographic pictures online and thus provides the reason for the internet.

It is not a good format to use for sprites, hand-drawn images, or indeed any work in progress.

BerserkerTails

Some great backgrounds you've got there, and the character concept art is looking pretty spiffy as well. I'm sure the game will turn out great.

The Naga though... As soon as I saw it, I couldn't help but think of that one character from G.I. Joe... What was his name, the Cobra-la guy... Golobulus, that was his name.

http://www.virtualtoychest.com/gijoe334/gijoegolobulusc.jpg

I couldn't find a picture from the cartoon, but there's his figure.
I make music.

yoshiwam

whaha I don't know a G.I joe naga figure XD
ao this guy is certainly not based on that
I've added a naga on someone's request, and the design is my own.

Anyway, I've decided to make Amadeus

Hmmz, this is the last screenshot I'll upload in a while ^^', because I want this topic to be an announcement, not a spoiler...jesh

 :o WHOOOA
The graphics look really unbelivable! And you do this with paint???!!! You could do much better (if that's possible) if you'd use something like ArtGem.
SPY FUNCTION-- My first game

fovmester

You say you draw in paint? Why don't you try out Graphics Gale instead? It's more powerful than Paint and you can also do game animations with it!

Just google for it and you'll find it.
