Adam,

I checked out that Jaga Jazzist album. Like them a lot but you mentioned What We Must was a departure to their prior stuff. How so? What's their old stuff like?

I just went to see the Dresden Dolls in concert and the 2 opening acts were pretty cool.

Reverend Glasseye was the first http://www.reverendglasseye.com/ and they were neat.

But then Golem came on http://www.golemrocks.com/ and they pretty much musically made love to me and left a twenty on the dresser.

Ever heard of The Kabalas, Eric?

The lead vocalist from the band Evil mentioned, The Metrolites, was the lead for The Kabalas back in the 90's. Evil and I are actually collaborating with him to design and shoot the cover for their next album, "For the People."

You can listen to their first album on CD Baby

If you visit their homepage linked to the side, you can see some of my photography down the page a bit.
You. Me. Denny's.

Oh yes Dresden dolls release their new album soon in America! Me buy import yesiree! I hope it's got more faster songs on it this time. Too many slow songs kinda get to me after a while. Still, think I'll put that on my mp3 player for 2mrw at work!

auhsor

I had a listen to The Metrolites lgm, and they sounded really cool. I'm considering buying their album now.

I recently stumbled upon an artist on VH1 I think called Orson. No idea if anyone has heard of them or how old / popular they are, I'm guessing as it's VH1 it was probably a few years ago and not all to popular.

Anyway the singer has a pretty good voice and it's a nice steady easy listening kind of music, not usually what i go for... quite catchy though; I recommend it.
When I was a little kid we had a sand box. It was a quicksand box. I was an only child... eventually.

FruitTree

yesterday I went to see 'archie bronson outfit'
a friend of mine called me up and said I had to see this band, that it's exactly my cup of tea.
so I went and I must say I was blown away! this band mixes modern rock & roll and stoner rock with psychadelic 70s rock! it was awesome!
and they all have beards wich is also awesome!

Just got back from seeing The Living End http://thelivingend.com/

I've seen them many many times over the last decade, first saw em in the front bar of a pub for free in 1995, now you pay much more and have thousands in the crowd at bigger venues, I'm not sure which I prefer, usually the less crowded, but this gig they played for 1hr 45 mins and I wanted it to go on longer even though I was busting for a piss most of the gig.

They play all over the world so if you ever get the chance, I would recommend going, awesome live show, easily one of the best live bands in the world. (They're on the Warped tour in July/August for any one in the USA)

probably a bit off topic anyway, but the new Chili Peppers double album is awesome, took me a while to get into it, seeing as finding the time to listen to over 2hrs of music many times over takes quite a while, but it really grows on you. They are an incredible band.

One of the best bands ever that no one has heard of, or probably ever will again as they split up about 10 years ago, is The Fireballs, who were a Heavy Psychobily band from Melbourne. (no, not the old rock 'n' roll swing band)

The best thing about them was the fact having a Double Bass in a Heavy band makes them heavier than any band Ever, none of this loosen the bass strings shit, you really have to hear a double bass in a metal band to appreciate how good it can sound, deeper and darker than bliss, especially with the click of a slapping a double bass.

The guys also had pretty big Quiffs (extremely exaggerated Elvis hair) much like the Leningrad Cowboys who I've noticed someone has an avatar with possibly one of the members

A thread bump to proclaim the greatness that is DeVotchKa ^_^.  Their music has been described as mariachi-folk-punk-gypsy, which sounds odd, but is also a pretty good description.  Take a listen to a few of their songs from their new CD: http://www.myspace.com/devotchkamusic

veryweirdguy

It's funny that this thread's been bumped as I just found a new band I quite like myself:

www.myspace.com/theroyalhighness

Kind of QOTSAish, if you're into that sort of thing. Four songs available there, and a few more available on their website!

Gogol Bordello was probably the best act I saw at the Roskilde Festival. It's gypsy punk and in fact not too far from the klezmer music of Golem, that MrColossal linked to or DeVotchKa, which MashPotato posted about. They're currently touring Europe so keep an eye out for them. I'm going to see them again in Bologna next month.

My other favorite band from Roskilde was the indie rock band The Editors who aren't quite as good on cd as they were live.

A band you can do worse than checking out is also Gojira.
