I don't think it makes sense to vote purely on appearances, so I think I'll ignore your vote, Rocco. (It's odd that the demo refuses to start. Perhaps it's something you could report on the tech forum.)
However, if you look at the source code and make a judgment based on that, I think it's reasonable.

My vote goes to dkh. His system is very customizable and the code is clear.
I never forget a face, but in your case I'll be glad to make an exception.

Only a few hours left to vote - I'll close the voting at midnight GMT.

My vote goes to Akumayo. Not only was his slightly more customisable than dkh's, it came with an "editor"! More than I was expecting there.

The code for both was clear and easy to read. Aku's was more fully commented. On the other hand, dkh's documentation help file was better presented and included a walkthrough for adding effects to a game, which was nice.

Akumayo pros:
- better code comments
- more flexible particle parameters
- better demo game
- editor

dkh pros:
- multiple sprites in an effect
- simpler interface
- better documentation

Good job, folks!

On the critical side, neither particle system support these features which would have been nice:
* rendering to a buffer for walkbehind sorting
* multiple different effects at once - particle "emitters" with properties
* doubly linked lists to store "free" and "used" particles for speed purposes
* particle parameters written to and read from an external file
